). If we could get Wingard he would service our needs perfectly (quality mid prospect with good disposal) + he is from SA. It is possible that he will fall down to pick 7 with growing interest in Tyson and Pick 3, Port's likely drafting of Longer is available at Pick 6 plus the unknown variables for GC at Pick 4 (surely they don't need another mid, KKP maybe for them?) and GWS at Pick 5 (lucky dip as to what they could pick here). Brisbane might be after a solid mid (not really sure) so they probably wouldn't let him slip past 8 probably.
Just came up with this on the way home. The AFC can really take advantage of the Gunston situation in the following ways :
1. Trade Gunston to Nth for Pick 18 and Warren (if that is the best available obviously, hopefully we can do better). Warren can fill his place in the team if Porps isn't right next year (lets face it Gunston was playing Porps role this year anyway). Doing this will allow us to maintain so strength up forward as Warren is capable of being a serviceable player and if Porps is healthy he will perform at the high level we need from him.
2.With 2 picks in the first round (10 and 18) we can go hard at the trade table with several options to pick from:
a) Use those picks available to us (10 and 18). This is obviously not a bad option as there will be quality available at both these picks discussed in other threads (also factoring in draft day slips and rises etc.).
b) Trade both picks (possibly with a player e.g Armstrong) try and move up in the draft to get a chance to draft Wingard. This would require us to deal with: GC (Pick 4) or GWS (pick 5 or Pick 7) (forget port they will pick Longer if he slips to Pick 6). These 2 Picks may not be the only thing we have at the table, factoring in Davis compo (whatever that will be). Brisbane might be after a solid mid (not really sure) so they probably wouldn't let him slip past 8 probably.
c) Use picks to push for Pick 1 in the mini draft to be used on O'meara (which we may now be in a realistic position to push for with suggested Nth deal). Kennedy (pick 2, or 3) as a fall back option. I know GWS will probably be more interested in hardened AFL players but it is still worth pursuing this avenue.
All the above scenarios are rather unlikely but worth a thought if Nth's Pick 18 is on the table. This might sound stupid to some us at this point but Gunston's defection could be used to greatly improve the club for the future if the situation is handled correctly. IMO this move (and maybe the Maric deal to an extent) comes at a critical point in the history of the club (new coach, young list, several defections etc) and the management of this particular deal (how well we do out of it and whether we use the gains at the trade table) could have a profound impact of the club for several years in terms of future premiership prospects and how long we hang around the bottom. Before any of you start tearing my ideas apart accept that they are just ideas and not offers that have been or are officially going to be made, I understand that many variables enter into the equation come trade time and the real world isn't a video game where wild trades happen all the time.
Thoughts? Try to be constructive rather than snide if possible![]()

Firstly re-read what I wrote (nothing is definite, only based off an idea which has been floated around BF). Also, Warren is a "throw in" not the meat of the deal (the Pick 18 is) and will not be delisted by Nth this year (Nth has already presented the list of who will be delisted). He can play the Gunston's role to a resonable level if Porp's isn't available. He isn't actually bad, just needs a chance at a new club and would give us some depth up forward if we have injury issues. He has also been in an AFL system for a few years so we wouldn't have to worry about him acclimatizing to the standard required and he actually works hard which might make up for the lack of effort from Walker up forward. Don't dismiss players like Warren so quickly...WTF Warren is in line to be delisted
Dont want

How do you know he will be a list clogger? Players that have been delisted at one club have come good at another (or even at the same club)...
I'm not interested in throw ins that will become list cloggers, what's the point of that
. Gunston will get us something good don't worry about that, the kid will certainly have trade value (not a excessive amount though) but remember that Warren is solid and an added bonus to a suggested deal mainly centred around the Pick 18. Don't expect us to get that much more than that for Gunston though, you might be disappointed.A **** is a **** no matter how much you try and polish it
If we traded Sellar or Cook nothing would change they would still struggle to be quality AFL players
Some players are surplus and need opportunity others are just not up to it, Warren isvthe latter

Warren is a spud mate. He's a very likely delist candidate. Also do not want Lindsay Thomas... a small forward needs to be DEADLY in front of goals and make the most of limited opportunities. Thomas just can't kick to save his life. His conversion rate is terrible and squanders too many opportunities. Knights>>>>Thomas.

Some suggestions for opposition supporters just to get a understanding of value (don't go ape if you don't like them, be constructive):
Carl: Gunston + 2nd Pick for Gibbs
Ric: Gunston for Edwards + Connors
Haw: Gunston for Young + 2nd Pick
Nth: Gunston + 4th for Thomas + Warren
or Gunston for 1st + Warren
StK: Gunston for Stevens + 3rd
or Gunston + 3rd for Armitage + 2nd
WB: Gunston + 3rd for Griffen
or Gunston for Howard
I'm wary of any suggestion that trades multiple picks for a single higher pick. We already have more vacancies to fill than is desirable, given the weakness of the draft. I don't want us putting all our eggs in one basket, when the likely cost of doing so is drafting 5-6 list cloggers who we'll have to offload as soon as their contracts expire in 2-years time.
I don't mind trading the Davi$ compo pick for a shot at Kennedy in the mini-draft. I'm extremely wary about the idea of trading picks 10, 18 and may be more (eg Armstrong), for one high pick. Don't get me wrong - I'd love to get Wingard, but if it's a choice between Wingard & 5x players selected at R3+ or 3x 1st round selections, then I take 3x 1st round selections any day of the week.
I would of couse settle (happily) for multiple 1st picks (which could be good themselves) but I would just love to get some more elite talent on the list (from SA as well), something we lack (lots of role players). You're only offering us two spuds!? We will be expecting at least 4 list cloggers for Gunston.Gunston for two of Ben Warren, Liam Anthony, Gavin Urquhart, Cruize Garlett or Matt Campbell plus second round pick.
I'm happy in what ever gets us the best midfielder we can.
I'd even be happy to lose the compo pick and our first pick if this is possible (for the right player)
we don't have the time to **** around with a project player. At worst we need another Brodie Smith type player (that is a player who plays Rd 1 )
Keeping our possible multiple 1st round picks will get us several Brodie Smiths (based off our good drafting), trade up for Wingard could get us a Scott Pendlebury (shorter)
Quality beats quantity mate.Gunston for two of Ben Warren, Liam Anthony, Gavin Urquhart, Cruize Garlett or Matt Campbell plus second round pick.
