Game Day Practice Match up in QLD v the reigning premier

🥰 Love BigFooty? Join now for free.

Our final "official" hit out before the season proper starts, sees us take on the reigning premiers up at Springfield Lakes. For those who haven't been to Springfield it's 32 kilometres from Brisbane city. Pack a lunch (bring dinner) and make sure you allow for the shitful Centenary/Western Freeway.

For those in QLD, the lads will have a (very) brief training run at Yeronga Footy Club (home of AFLQ) between approximately 1:20pm-2:15pm on Wednesday afternoon, and fans are welcome to come. 😊 I'll try to get there and report back.

After a maximum of 29, the forecast weather for Thursday night is around 26 degrees with 64% humidity and a light 14kmh wind by game time.

What are we hoping to see from this encounter? Given we've had a month head start in pre-season training, I'd hope to see us have a real crack. But as long as we get through unscathed, I'll be happy!

Sounds like the Brisbane version of Casey Fields.

Two long flights and a run against the 2024 Premier in energy-sapping humidity for NO points and the possibility of tired legs vs the Saints doesn't make a lot of sense to me, even if they have 10 days to freshen up.
I wonder who organizes these games and what their logic is in terms of preparation for Round One when 4 points are at stake.

This, for sure.
I'm apprehensive that Brisbane will give us a hiding and send us back to Adelaide with a negative mindset or, worse, injuries. I know, I know; injuries are ALWAYS a chance.
I dunno, Jen, should I be more optimistic?
I'm still hungover from the 2024 shitness (not to mention the 2020-2024 shitness :sadv1:).

jenny61_99 you please rename this thread to upcoming premiers vs reigning premiers

Noting the addition of an 's' to the end of premier because AFL is a team sport.
are trainers and mechanics pretty comparable?

P.S.
Thilthorpe, fit and firing, great.
Soligo looks like he will step up another level, great.
Rankine is ready to razzle-dazzle, we've recruited well, the midfield looks stronger etc.

But, Nicks ; and his weird selections, favoritism and lack of nuanced game plans ... if he hasn't made any changes internally, well, we'll see ...

10 days is ample recovery time. We'd get less in the regular season if we were faced with a trip up north in mid-to-late March.

Does that ground have any elevated grand stands? (I suspect it wont be great as it sounds like a suburban ground) The reason I ask is that so far we've not had any elevated camera angles of our games so the tactics/ running patterns / gameplan are nearly impossible to make out. Its shit me to tears since that's probably my main interest. Still, never know, it might help with oppo (first round in particular) not able to analyse us as much.

Yes, far too negative! 10 days to freshen up would be plenty, but try around 17! :D:rainbow::):p:thumbsu:

So is this the place in the Simspons with the nuclear power plant and everyone's yellow, or the place in the USA where Trump said they're eating all the cats, they're eating all the dogs?

It does. It’s not too dissimilar to how Thebarton will look, though our admin building will be bigger. Not sure if they shoot from up in the stand though.

And here’s Keith Martin with the weather update
