Should the Dee's have a red hot crack at trying to win the pre season comp next year for its monetary reward? Given Carlton's success in it we can be hopeful.

OR

Should we focus on the season proper and just manage the list for round one?

I'm not sure of the exact prize money it yields but anything over $10 and I say play to win it.

Agree!

The MFC's number one priority at the moment is financial stability and every dollar helps.Anyway, why shouldn't you try and win every comp you enter.A winning mentality is a good thing.

This may mean we are at a disadvantage though, possibly towards the end of a long season. Most contender sides don't take it seriously.

I don't see why not. The kids can get a good run at it as well given the likes of McLean, Petterd, Grimes and Meesen will be itching to play as much football as possible

Doesn't matter we wont be contending for a flag next year... we should go out there and try and win it... like davey magik said we need the positive publicity and dollars in the coffers...

You've just answered the question there mate. We won't be 'contenders' next year. We will hopefully improve dramatically, maybe even push for a top 8 spot, but we won't be genuine contenders.

Therefore, why not try to win the pre-season comp. Maybe even Meesen could get a gig.

This is one of the better suggestions i've seen on here for a while.

The prize money this year went up to $350,000 for the winner and $160,000 for the runner up, both of which would be a good start to trying to turn a profit next year. It might even be a positive that the club could start a membership drive off the back of

We at very least need to make it past the first game, they changed the prize money rules this year so that the clubs knocked at in the first round get nothing, we have to play practice matches in the following weeks anyway so we may as well be making some money out of them

win at all costs...we need the cash and it will encourage Dees supporters to sign up as members next year also we will get extra publicity..cant wait to see Jack Watts in action, if we choose to take him with our first pick

Not sure I like this mentality, but it wouldn't hurt to get off to a bumper start to the H&A season and get up and about even if it means we peak before the finals, and to get up and going early a strong nab cup performance would help.

Bailey this year definitely focused on building his game plan, improving the players skills (surprisingly I'd say they are a little better than last year) and trying to get all our injured players back to fitness. This had mixed results, Sylvia is better, Moloney got over his OP (then got injured), Rivers stayed injured, Petterd got OP and we had plenty of unavoidable collision injuries (Neitz, McLean, Robertson, Moloney etc). However I'm sure this preseason will be a lot tougher than last years, try and get our young blokes up to scratch.

We should definitely go for it. The worst that can happen is that we fall away in the later rounds, but at least not having your season over by round 2 would be a massive improvement.
