Me, Jerome, lozstar, Punchy, Macca, SG, MG-KBCG, Radar, Jars

Those who reckon there they have a better offer than standing on Coopers Hill sipping a few ales (or an offer they can't refuse):
acg

Undecided:
Stiffy (extremely doubtful), AE, BG

I think I'll be sipping the ales in my airconditioned bedroom, while watching the Magic of Darren Jarman video for the hundredth time.

The only Crows' game in Adelaide I'll miss all year probably!

Looking forward to the indepth reports and even the drunken, hazy ones.

Sadly I won't be going because I won't be finishing till late on Friday (god dammit! that's the last time I ever do someone a favour!!)

However I expect to see you all at the Wizard Cup!

Stiffy is 95% certain of going:D. I might be a bit late for the 1st match but I should be there before 2nd half of the Glenelg match. To be honest I am more interested in watching our youngsters play against Glenelg than I am of watching the regulars trash Norwood once again by 100 odd points.

P.S. I will have to stay off the booze cos I am driving

Good point about being more interested in the 1st game as get to see some of the newer players for the 1st time. I expect I won't remember as much of the 2nd game once the local brew starts flowing. If anyone is interested in catching up, I will be on Coopers Hill.

Tissues in hand?;)

I won't make the first game due to Friday drinks but should get there for the second one and will also be on coopers hill.

Is it known whether they are splitting the crows side equally for the 2 games or is it an A and B side. B to play Glenelg and A to play Norwood? Obviously I will only be there for the Glenelg game and maybe a bit of the next game.

Usually the side that plays first has the lesser players and is bolstered with some of the SA junior players. A couple of senior players may be in that side but not too many

Come up onto Coopers Hill and day hello Easty.

Very much looking forward to getting ****ed on Coopers Hill then walking (very badly) down The Parade road trying to find a bar or pub! :):)

Yes! Cant wait for that! ;) Who knows, we all might stumble into a couple of crows players on our way "home" :p :D
Im keeping as far away from The Alma as possible this year. Through my experience I have learnt that one of the bartenders is a real ****. And Im not talking about Roo or Goody, rest easy. ;)

Might see some of you there then I guess. :)

Bluecrow,

The first game against the Bays starts at 6. We play the Legs at 8.

I would recommend you try and get there by about 5.30 if not before.

The line ups will be huge and there will be lots of traffic.

Here is some news from afc.com.au Their plans for Gags sounds very interesting:

Bode, Gags ready to roll
4:15:50 PM Wed 11 February, 2004
Alan Shiell
afl.com.au
Matthew Bode and James Gallagher, two of Adelaide’s fittest players, are relishing the chance to finally compete against players from other clubs this week.

Intra-club practice matches and the longer one in high 30s heat at Berri last Friday are behind the Crows now and they will field two teams at Norwood Oval on Friday night, against SANFL clubs Glenelg (from 6 o’clock) and Norwood (from 8 o’clock).

They will be the Crows’ last full-scale workouts before the Wizard Home Loans Cup match against St Kilda at AAMI Stadium on Sunday week (from 4.40pm).

The irony is that Bode, from Glenelg, is certain to be in Adelaide’s stronger line-up against Norwood, while Gallagher, from Norwood, might play in the early match against Glenelg.

Gallagher put a novel spin on the matches by saying: “I heard a comment from one of the other coaches during the week that an internal trial is like dancing with your sister – and I’ve got three sisters so I know what that’s like.

“This will be a lot better, playing against genuine competition – another side.

“For the guys like me and some of the others pushing for a spot in the Wizard Cup, it certainly means plenty – to put your best foot forward because there are spots up for grabs next week.

“I know all the boys will be going flat out to make sure they get a spot next week and a good leg up for the start of the season.”

Bode said: “From our point of view, it’s going to be a good opportunity to put into practice a lot of the work we’ve been doing over the off season.

“Against the beloved Bays, it should be pretty interesting. They’re a developing club … and Norwood has always been pretty competitive. It’s always a good night and certainly it’s for a good cause, as well, with a lot of money going to the Royal Flying Doctor Service.”

Bode and Gallagher, both aged 24, played junior cricket and football together at Glenelg before going their separate football ways.

Bode has played 73 AFL matches – 29 with Port Adelaide from 1998-2000 and 44 with Adelaide since 2001 – and Gallagher has made 24 AFL appearance for Adelaide since 2001.

Gallagher said his main goal this season was to ‘cement a permanent spot’ with the Crows.

“I want to get into the side as soon as possible and stay in there for as long as I can; to find a role in the side each week and become a regular member of the side,” he said.

“We all had a meeting (individually) with the coaches at the end of the year. Mine was about becoming a bit more versatile. I’ve spent pretty much all this pre-season playing in the back line in practice matches.

“That’s added another string to my bow. It’s not so much if you get picked to play on the wing or off the bench; it means you can go into the back lines if you have to.

“I think that cost me a few games last year when I wasn’t picked because they just weren’t sure whether I could play in the back line. That was the main message that came out of my meeting – to try to add to my repertoire this year.”

Bode said his message from the coaches was “pretty positive”.

“Ayresy’s always positive with all the guys,” he said. “He basically just said to keep up my work ethic. As long as I know the coach has got a lot of confidence in me, then I’m sure I can play some reasonable football.

“I felt like I played some pretty reasonable football over the past couple of years but it’s just been a bit patchy. So it’s pretty important for me to try to string a few good games together. My main focus is to get more consistency and do that throughout the year.”

According to all the TV stations, virtually all the squad will be playing in the 2 games, including Roo and Carey. Roo wants to play with a thumb guard, and carey wants a hit out before the Wizzer.

They say that apparently only Clarke and Smart are certain to miss.

Personally I wouldn't play Hart given his limited preparation.

I doubt that Watts will play as he has strained achillies. This is the type of injury that may need a bit more time on sidelines than just a week. If we risk him and god forbit he snaps it, it would be a season.

Are you sure?????? I thought it was 5:30 against the Bay and 7:30 against Redlegs and I don't trust afl.com.au. That might be Melbourne time.

BTW, anyone know how much is the entery??????

All the other training times on that site are SA times so I doubt that they would be Melbourne time.

You're right though, when they first started talking about it they were saying 5:30 against the Bays and 7:30 against the Redlegs. However, the 6 pm and 8 pm times have been the ones touted for the last couple of weeks. I'll be there by 5 30 om so I'll be okay one way or the other.

I can't remember, but I think it was at least $5 last year. Maybe somewhere between $5 and $10, but I really can't remember.

If its at 6 then I should be there on time unless I wait half and hour to get into the ground.

I thought it would be around the same price as the normal SANFL match which from memory is $10.

Should be fun. I am really looking forward to watching our youngsters play. Watts will most probably miss the game with injury:( but Krueger and Hudson should play:D

I hope they play Hentschel in defence.

From The Advertiser site 12/2/04

"Pint-sized Gallagher will line up against his old club Norwood in tomorrow night's trial at Norwood Oval where key forward Wayne Carey will resume following knee surgery.

Captain Mark Ricciuto is a 50/50 chance to play after having plaster removed from his injured thumb on Tuesday.

The Crows "possibles" play Glenelg from 6pm while season 2004 "probables" will meet Gary McIntosh's full-strength Redlegs from 8pm."

Well now the Advertiser is saying it.

Maybe they have pushed it forward a half hour due to the heat.

I dont know about the entry costs at this stage. Check the Tiser there should be an advertisement in the sports pages today or tomorrow.

Friend of mine rang the club and you are right it is 5:30 and 7:30 and it's $5 to get in.

$5 is ok but anything more is ridiculous for a trial game. Should be a good night though, except for the heat!
$5 is reasonable & all going to charity. Will need to keep the liquids up with heat! Is the game definitely starting at 5:30 (& 7:30)?? Strange they would move it forward half an hour with a 35 degree forecast.
