Well we dont have many Australian players to talk about so we have to resort talking about a 16 year old.

He looks really good though, is close to the best player under 18 in the world and has done everything right so far, but a long way to go. There have been a few players who have had it all in front of them at this age and never came through *cough* Matt Reid *cough*.

I like the way he plays, comes across well in interviews and seems to be level headed despite his dad.

How good do you think he will be?

It's all about the transition from juniors to seniors, great junior results don't matter when you don't have good results in seniors. Needs to stay away from this juniors crap now. Our players tend to struggle, Reid fell off the face of the arth, heck Guccione is still in the "transition" period and that's been going for about 5-6 years.

Tomic has no big weapons and will struggle in the top league.I dont see him as a champion bloke for the future but can be a solid top 50 player though

Yeh I just cant stand parents like John Tomic.

When people say he doesnt have 'weapons' I dont really agree with that. I agree that he hits the ball soft, but from watching him a few times he has shown the ability to hit cold winners on both sides and does tend to pick the right moments to go for the winner. Also seems to have good court smarts. But the guy is 6 foot 4 I think by the time he is 19 or 20 he will be hitting it nice and hard.

Needs to improve his serve (I think it's got even worse, it's like a woman's serve), forehand and movement. He's up to 194cm!

He does have a beautiful backhand with a faultless technique and he handles the big moments well (look at his TB record). Those are nice qualities to have. He's won 2 junior GS and he's shown he can handle the ATP level as he did lose 6-4, 6-2 to a red hot Verdasco, not a bad effort really for a 16 y/o in their ATP debut.

It's hard to see how he'll end up but I'm crossing my fingers than he makes it big.

Yep, I think its too early to tell what he'll end up, but does anyone else think his build is extremely similar to De Potro? Tall, skinny with lanky arms and legs. Oh, and in that game against Verdasco, he was actually a break up in the first I believe.

He should be a top 20 player. But it's another whole level to win Grand Slams, so I'm not sure. Junior success doesn't necessarily translate to success on the senior tour. Hopefully, he'll be good enough to become our next Slam winner. This Aussie tennis drought needs to be broken.

Still to early to call. But if he wants to make the top 50 he has to improve his forehand and defintely his serve. I thik he can make the top 100, but I doubt he will make it that high once he reaches that point. Of course he could prove me wrong, and I hope he does.

If you go by past junior winners, probably half of them make it to the top 20 at some stage. Bit too early to predict him winning slams, though.

And yeah he's only 16. When that 6 foot 4 frame fills out, he should be hitting the ball nice and hard.

^^ haha too funny.
Whats the big deal, if he doesnt want to train with him its his decision.

here we go again.
Hes not Anglo so he will judged and scrutinised a lot harder.

Bull ****ing shit.

He'll be judged and scrutinised because a) Australia is in dire need of another good player b) he is surrounded by a bunch of nutjobs and c) his agent just called Lleyton ****ing Hewitt not good enough.

Who the **** does he think he is?

Wouldn't really be blaming Tomic, he's only 16 and probably just does what his Dad and his support staff tell him. I think I heard Todd Woodbridge is coaching him now, so it would be great if Woodbridge just tells his dad and agents to leave the Tennis related matters to him. Seriously, why should an agent have any say in who Tomic hits with?

Wow. It's a bit sad when I keep having to defend a 16 year old but I'm not sure how much longer I can do it for. He sounds like an absolute tool. Maybe the kid's alright but his camp and the people he's surrounded with sound like absolute losers. Tomic's camp telling one of our greatest players ever he's "not good enough", just wow.

''The situation was that, one, Bernard has the most respect for Lleyton and is the reason why Bernard became a tennis player. And, two, from what I understand that the kid he was playing the next day had a different style to Lleyton and Team Tomic felt that by playing Lleyton it wasn't beneficial for the next day's match. Not that he did not want to hit with Lleyton Hewitt … they just felt that it wasn't beneficial, and that's just a call from the coach and from the tennis team that is around Bernard.''
Yeah so umm basically champ, it went how Hewitt and his camp said.

I reckon that he will spend most of his career floating around the 30-50 range. May have a great year or two where he sneaks into top 10 or 15 but not for long.

It is hard to tell though. He is only 16 years old and it is hard to judge how his game is going to match up against the best.

I'm a little annoyed with myself at how the more crap I hear from Tomic's idiot father, the more I want Tomic to crash and burn just to hurt his Dad.

Why can't Serena Williams shove a ball down his throat?
