It's improved a hell of lot in the last 12 months though, and he can make it up with anticipation. But yeah, he still would need to work on it and hopefully it comes with time. i think he's always going to struggle on clay though.
 
So Tomic will be ranked 34 next week, and for whatever reason (boredom) i looked up where the current top players were ranked at the same age:

Djokovic - 23
Nadal - 2
Federer - 24
Murray - 19
Ferrer - 313
Tsonga - 281
Berdych - 45
Fish - 206
Del Potro - 44
Dolgopolov - 219


Nadal was obviously freakishly strong for his age, but no-one else was significantly more advanced than Tomic at the same age (19 and 3 months).

He should easily break top 30 with Miami, Indian Wells, etc. before the start of the clay season.

He has no points to defend, and the faster hardcourts in the US should mean some favourable results.

Yeah hopefully he can get quite a few points before the clay season. I saw him live at the French Open last year and he moves like a ******* on the dirt. I don't think he'll be winning any clay titles in his career, maybe it can be fixed but often if you can't move on clay as an 18 year old you still can't at 30.

He's admitted that he hasn't worked hard enough and it's showing. It's the trouble with being a child prodigy, everything comes so easy that they think they can just take a free ride to the top-shit doesn't happen that way. He needs to work on getting a bigger serve as for his height his serve should give him way for free points, it's pretty weak for a big bloke. Also, needs to be more aggressive, he plays like a counter-puncher when his movement is like a dinosaur. He can't let others dictate the point, he needs to be the aggressor. Worked in the juniors but getting found out against guys who don't miss, you have to make them miss.

He's also never really played a full on year on the circuit before either, his tournament schedule is a lot more stacked this year compared to last year and the year before- it takes a lot of mental strength and stamina to play your best tennis week in week out and Bernie's probably finding it tough to do that at the moment.
 
Anyone who looks at his real personal Facebook profile would not be surprised at his admission of being lazy/not working hard enough.

He is best friends with several club owners and DJs in Surfer's and is constantly tagged in nightclub photographs. For example, he was partying during the April Davis Cup tie in Brisbane and was out in a Paris club the night before Roland Garros started.

Perhaps this slump will force him to change before he becomes a wasted talent, but I'm not holding my breath.

To be honest, we shouldn't even mention Tomic in the same sentence as Philipousis. Mark beat Sampras when he was 18, won Indian Wells when he was quite young and also beat Sampras on another occasion at the french in rnd 1. As much as we bag him, he still reached no 9 in the world and had a decent career. Bernie is no where near any of that. As far as I can remember, Philippousis never had on court issues per say, in terms of playing way too passively etc. Bernie hasn't even won an ATP event yet, and I know the days of teenage sensation are gone, but I think if Bernie is still like this in about 3 years, then we can start to worry. I think it would help if the media just shut up a bit too, just let him go about his business, stop talking about him like he's the second comming (Barty is gonna have fun with this as well). I spose being a traditional tennis nation with very few prospects comming through is the cause, but who's to say Bernie is not feeling the pressure? Some of the chokes he's done this year are a bit of a worry...
 
Haven't read the thread but I am sure what I will say has been said. He is way to slow cross court and gets really slack with his feet position with his groundies. Can bomb a serve but really needs to work on his speed.

Depending on how the older players on tour can last, I cant see him breaking into the top 10 for a while.

Rafter told him his attitude is disgraceful and he's sick and tired of tiptoeing around the issue. His father needs to go, but we'll still be saying that in 5 years time. I can't see Tomic ever getting close to realising his potential. Anyone that doesn't put in the effort will never be as good as they should be.
 
i hate people like tomic. have the talent but not the heart.

people like him never realise how many people would love to be in his predicament, it really irks me.
