Not sure if there is a thread already (probably in the Bay) but where do you see the GC knocking up their maiden win?

Draw
Round 1: BYE
Round 2: vs Carlton (Gabba)
Round 3: vs Dogs (Etihad)
Round 4: vs Dees (Gabba)
Round 5: vs Port (AAMI)
Round 6: vs Dons (Etihad)
Round 7: vs Lions (Gabba)
Round 8: vs Crows (AAMI)
Round 9: BYE
Round 10: vs Cats (Carrara aka GC Stadium)

Tempted to say Essendon if the game was up in QLD. We'll probably be under the pressure to bounce back after losses the previous weeks though.

Blues perhaps a little cocky after belting Richmond the previous week and not quite as refreshed?

Dogs - very doubtful
Dees - quite possible but they've got a decent record up there
Port/Crows - An away win unlikely.
Lions - Would they be considered favourites to beat Brisbane?
Cats - Wildcard.

No wins until after Rnd 10?
No wins for the year??

Rd 2 Carlton

The Blues will travel up with limited knowledge of what the young kids play like, limited knowledge of Bluey McKenna's game plan and worst of all for them, limited respect for the team who will beat them by 5 goals :)

I think they're a good chance against the Blues, and then maybe Dees/Essendon but who really knows how good they will be first up

Haha that's cute :o

If the Melbourne of 2008 can win a few games then Gold Coast must be good for at least a couple of victories

Off on a tangent there, friend.

Call it as I see it. Promising juniors. G. Ablett. Rischitelli, Brennan, Bok and Brown all good AFL players. That is all.

Your team would be a good VFL side at best.

Name me a vfl side that has a current top three afl player in their team. With the allotment of midfielders (Ablett, Brennan, Rischitelli, Swallow, Bennell etc.) they already have a growing midfield, and they'd be the best vfl side with this list. For instance when they play West Coast, are you honestly saying the eagles will travel the length of the country, with their superstar midfield of Kerr, Priddis, Ebert and Masten, and beat the likes of Swallow, Ablett, Brennan Rischitelli? Come on buddy. I know we're all peeved at all the gifts they've been given but thinking they'll flop is little more than a unlikely wish.

Some people just don't think. No incoming side has gone winless in their first year, why would the suns be any different. Not saying they'll make the 8 but a good chance to win a few games.

:D @ the haters.

Probably the same people who predicted richmond to romp it in in round one this year. You can't honestly expect a squad of mostly kids who have never played elite level footy, a coach whose game plan has never been tried at elite level to beat a finalist from the year prior.

I think they'll show some great signs as the year progresses, but I think its more probable that it'll take them some time to gel first.

I don't think that the Gold Coast is better than Carlton, but that's not why they'll have a good chance in their first game - Running high on emotions, with a gameplan that no one has seen, and in truth, a midfield that might actually be stronger than Carlton's, despite that being Carlton's main strength, and a pretty solid ramp-up to the AFL compared to most other expansion teams.

I don't know that I'll pick them to win the game, but if I had to put money on them to win any of those games, I'd pick the shock first-up victory.

I think the people predicted them to beat Carlton are more so showing their dislike of Carlton and hoping that they beat us rather then actually thinking that they can and will.

Not saying it is impossible, but I think it highly unlikely, whether you think I'm biased or not.

I think if our squad ran out in a Sydney uniform for example people might not be so quick to say they'd beat us

I guess we'll have to wait and see though.

lol at thinking carlton will lose round 2.

Agree. lol x >9000. Carlton will easily win. Who cares if GC have a few top line AFL players? A champion team beats a team of champions. Facts are Carlton have been together longer, know how everyone plays, know their structures better, and most importantly, their players actually have experience in the AFL. Half of GC's team will have never played AFL before.

Carlton to win by 7-10 goals.

FWIW, I think it will be vs Brisbane or Essendon. Mainly because they are spuds.
