Great win by my lions on the weekend against Old Ivanhoe.

I know the blokes in brown and white went pretty close to getting themselves back up to A grade last year, but they seem to be a different group this year.

Well done to Collegians small forward Will D'Amico who managed to snag 7 goals in the absence of Alex Lukic, who was up at Box Hill after a couple of standout games.

Whilst being in B grade is not what I or the club envisioned, it is great to see the club chalking up good wins with both our seniors and reserves (who have had a few lean years) starting to hit their straps.

This coming week, we play our first ever senior game against our neighbours down at Gary Smorgon Oval, Ajax, in what should be a terrific game.

Mike,

Yes we were a poor 15 minutes away from A Grade.

But when you have some success, players get noticed. 3 of our players have been picked up by VFL, 2 of which have been released back to us at any stage.

Money was thrown around to heaps of players which some did accept.

Travel and work commitments took a few.

Retirement took 2-3.

Lots of Unders from the last 2 years decided to play at lower level clubs so they could get a senior game, which has left our ressies a little short.

We started with 7 under 19’s in the team. Some have struggled with the pace and size of B Grade. Half the team is under 22.

If we had last years team I believe we would be close to undefeated. But that isn’t the case so we have to go with who we have. They are giving 100%. We have 5-6 to come back from injury plus hopeful some VFL talent being freed up, which will help us be competitive.

Luckily there aren’t 2 dominant teams like last year, and more than one team struggling. This will enable all teams a chance to stay up.

We have De La this week. Should be competitive.

Well written Max, we have been having a similar issue at SKOB for the last 9 years, whether is be AFL or VFL clubs, drafting and signing what sometimes feels like every player who shows promise. It's swings and roundabouts, the full forward at Uni Blues would make you guys very dangerous if he were playing at his Alma Mater.

Thats right Max, only one dominant team this year.
I get what you say about your OI, but really, this applies to all teams.. VFL listings, money, retirements or just poor form thrown in. Nothing new, everyone wears it.

Starting to sound like Bedford - and his Ormond juniors spiel.

I agree and not complaining, just explaining. It’s actually a compliment to our club that we have been severely poached. Even the VAFA took our coach from last year.

The we have ( just throwing out hypothetical numbers)6 u19s playing 1s, 4 vfl players plus players going for money excuse is a bit boring tbh…as high level amateur clubs that’s just our lot as a whole.
We all have the above issues…it’s a credit to all our clubs that the players lost to $$ or vfl have come through our pathways, please no more of the above excuses.

As i said explaining not complaining.

We have discovered 3 beauties that may not have had a chance if we had the same team as last year.

AJAX v Collegians - Will the Lions drop a game this year?
Old Camberwell v Beaumaris - Will the Sharks have some St Kilda VFL lads back? Regardless they should win.
Old Ivanhoe v De La Salle - The Hoes are lifting, but I think De La are good enough to still nab this one.
Old Geelong v Old Carey - Going to be a long season for the OGs.
Williamstown v Old Melbourne - Willy + Fearon = Win
