I apologise perhaps the term president should have read CEO.

So CEO Troy Swainston,GMFO Dyson Baker,Com Man Mark Freeman,Netball Admin.Petra Keogh ,EFNL Junior President position vacant and Media Manager Daniel Cedric are surely all paid plus the girl behind the counter at EDFN.In the country leagues we have no where near that staff and in some cases presidents doing it on their own for little remuneration and little help.

As for "club presidents" none are paid and most likely most are paying out of their own pocket being club presidents.

haha yes definitely different terminology. President is a term for club peeps and orange coloured tools.
feels for club presidents right now. Would be a very very difficult period for any club with both hands tied to do much about.

If the EFL only has seven full time staff I’d wager they’re running absolute bare bones. It’s a massive organisation. 5 divisions of seniors and reserves, U19s, Vets, netball and thousands of juniors. Putting all that on in this day and age is a massive undertaking. If seven people can pull it off from a league point of view they’re doing bloody well. Dealing with shitloads of clubs, councils, sponsors, the AFL, everybody else... bugger that.

Bit hard to compare to a country league where they may only have seniors and reserves, maybe colts and maybe netball, but only 10-12 clubs.

Yes,the EFNL surveyed the clubs on April 15th, with 44% of clubs wanting to cancel the season then. I wouldn't call that a large percentage wanting to play. Most clubs concerns were about finances and without any crowds you wouldn't think those worries would be lessened. If you think the officials that are still there are not being well paid and would like to continue to be paid you are mistaken.
If the survey was to be done next week, do you think the percentage wanting to cancel the season would change?

Yes, from speaking to people at different clubs I believe there would be more clubs now opposed to playing.
The no crowd ruling has severely hampered the potential to bring in much needed income.

Speaking to a few people I know I think I would agree with Cliff about the number of clubs supporting the cancellation of the 2020 season. A number of people have said the imputeus and motivation to play this year was long gone and trying to get a club up and running with limited resources is a difficult task. Many volunteers are in the older demographic and still need to be careful about their health and wellbeing and many players don't want to play into later this year due to other commitments such as work, sporting commitments and their families.

I think the Heathcote District and the Hume FNL's have done the honourable thing and both called their seasons to give certainly to all. Footy is important but there is a lot more to life in these uncertain times.

That is old news.
From this morning. No insurance coverage was the decider.
https://www.bendigoadvertiser.com.au/story/6765745/hdfnl-cancels-2020-season-because-of-covid-19/

Reasons for cancellation included:
  • (Based on State Government COVID-19 restriction roll out) The highly unlikely return to full scale training by June 15, which is the latest date as requested by clubs to be able to train as a whole, prior to the latest possible season start date of July 4.
  • The health and safety of all players, officials, and volunteers around forecast Return to Play restrictions at training (scheduled to start May 25). And in particular, the increased responsibility on club representatives to administer COVID-19 protocols.
  • The health, safety and financial impact on all individuals, should a COVID-19 case be detected at one of our clubs.
  • Financial hardship and lack of income clubs will endure. No crowds, resulting in no gate takings, canteen and bar income, combined with an anticipated lack of sponsorship and other income streams - club fundraisers etc.
But the overall deciding factor was "Once we found the fact that if someone was training during that period of time and came down with COVID-19 and, god forbid, something happened to them there's no insurance".
"We want to keep everyone as safe as we possibly can. At the end of the day it's only people kicking a football and throwing a netball...there's a lot worse things going on in life at the moment." Heathcote District Football Netball League chairman Peter Cole

On another topic any Premier clubs have an idea how this could work? Assume there’s quite a few VFL listed players around

maybe not to St Kevin’s level! Do the ammos have points system?

I've raised this a couple of times Bunk.

This is just another uncertainty that mostly Premier Clubs are faced with. My own club has 7 off the top of my head, a club like Noble Park would have close to double.

If stand alone VFL/VFA clubs were to play a season this would change things. Box Hill declared they would be stand alone for 2020. They would barely have 20 players removing the Hawthorn contingent - where do the remaining come from? If they don't play the opposite will occur, clubs will struggle to play all due to salary cap & points. When recruiting judgement calls & conversations are held with VFL clubs in regards to possible availability of these players during a season - with consideration to salary cap & points.

What will happen in 2021 & beyond with the VFL set-up, etc. Has a significant effect on top grade leagues.

Insurance companies have learnt from the past. As soon as the word pandemic is released there is no claims applicable (read the fine print). This is certainly an issue for clubs & players - especially those that may have income protection policies.

The financial issues are primary for all clubs but this is only scratching the surface as to whether clubs want to participate in 2020. It does make me giggle when a random posts about players paying for nothing & that this is the panacea as to whether 2020 should go ahead. This situation is extremely complex on numerous levels. Club volunteers under are under a ridiculous amount of pressure, and this is prior to any commencement of any season. The pressure will only escalate if a season is commenced.

Clubs & the League were conducting meetings this week, with the aim as to finding where clubs currently stand for 2020. Obviously things may have changed since the first survey.

It's nice that governments at all levels may want community sport to start up, but it will not be their decision. It will come down to the clubs and their wishes, and we have seen this already. The league has nothing without the clubs and those that form the clubs. If you have a situation where say 50% of clubs do not want to participate in 2020, I struggle to see how a season can commence.

I know of some clubs that are financially secure that are not keen on 2020.

Interesting time of the year to sign...Hmmmm

And brings up a real problem if some leagues play and some do not.AFL Victoria should have made a call on this one a few weeks back and all clearances now should be only permits for this season.Understand the guys that get the permit might enjoy there 8 or 9 games and will most likely apply for a clearance next year but this would be one of the concerns of clubs/leagues that decide to take the season off.

Or not ?
Norwood fc statement "An offer of a career that presents to good for Leigh to refuse, comes with an inability to commit to playing Premier football at Norwood."

Not the case according to the Norwood Prez.

In these difficult times you are saying he has gone there because of money, perhaps he does not understand the hard work our club volunteers are under.I helped out Nunawading a couple years back for about 6 games but to difficult task being with another club at the same time and their notice board said the following similar to a cricket notice board." All player registration fees of $400 approx and due by x date"These guys played footy and paid to play and get belted each week as well, these are the guys that I love who play local footy not these guys who hurt our game and those clubs that pay them the money.

Heard it’s because of a new job . Currently not working and has to set himself up again. I think he lives up there

Yes he does live up there and was offered a new job. Is mates with a few guys at Seville and will enjoy playing there I’m sure. Good footy club with great people involved. Will be a good acquisition although unlikely they will get on the field in 2020 going by what I am hearing.

Not what I’m saying at all G.

I’ve admired that Leigh stayed at Norwood & been loyal in the face of significant offers over many years. Clubs from everywhere have tried, but failed. As per Richie a career move, that suits dropping a level at this stage.
