I was just reading the adelaide papers to see what they were saying in regards to the GF and saw this

Premiership medals for everyplayer in an AFL season - including injured defenders Wilson (snapped left Achilles) and Geelong's All-Australian centre half-back Matthew Egan (broken right foot) if their teams win the flag on Saturday.

Power coach Mark Williams yesterday put all this on the agenda leading into the AFL grand final at the MCG.

This is a good idea, if we get up, for both Egan and Blake as they will both be recognised for their season.

It is a nice thought and both Blake and Egan are awfully unlucky not to be playing but I don't think that giving them a medal (if Geelong are to win) will replace the hollow feeling of not playing in the GF.

do the emergencies get a medal?

Don't think so. The way it used to work from memory you had to actually be on the ground at some stage to get one. If you sat on the bench you got nada.

I think anyone who has made a significant contribution through the season should get something. Say ten games and a final. At the moment you can have blokes missing out who've played all year because of the conditions, eg its a wet day and you're the third tall in the forward line.

Yep agree with that. They should take the soccer style approach to medals where if you play a certain amount of games a season then you have made a worthwhile impact and are awarded accordingly.

I'm in favour of the club that wins the cup producing medals for all the players that played a senior game that season.
In sofar as the Afl premiership medallions are concerned I think that you must have played in the Grand Final.

I can't see a real problem with it, I mean a few other sports, especially those in the U.S. give title memorabillia to players who only served a couple of 10 day contracts throughout the season.

Maybe it would cheapen them, maybe it is a bad idea. I know though that if I missed out because of an injury, I'd be pissed.

Thems the breaks I guess, at this stage, you have to be on the deck to win the prize.

Just read Sarah's post above, great idea, two medallions, one for the winning club, one for the premiership. The winning club ones go to every player on the senior list, and the premiership ones go to the actual players on the park.

i agree - you have to play in the grand final to deserve a premiership medallion. everyone else involves shares in the club's glory in other ways, eg financially, but only the 22 best on the day, who actually run out on the ground, deserve that particular honour.
