Don't have a source on this and it's purely gut feel I'm going on but I believe that we'll be rather quiet come trade time and won't land anyone of note.

We are always linked to someone but when push comes to shove during trade period we're never quite able to get the job done.

Go back over the last few years and look at who we've been linked to and who we've successfully traded for. Tyson nope, Adams nope, Armitage nope & Shiel nope. The only ones we've managed to land are free agent types or unwanted types looking for a new home.

So as I said be prepared for yet another let down this off season as we'll be linked to plenty but get none.

Is this really thread worthy?

We've been preparing for this particular off season for years now. Tyson, Adams, Armitage etc I'm sure we chased but I doubt we'd have gone as hard at them as we'll be going at our targets this year, reason being that now is the perfect time to recruit given the age profile of our list and some of the perfect targets for us happen to be coming out of contract (eg Motlop).

We'll see, but for now I remain cautiously optimistic that we'll land at least one of the names being thrown about.

This thread is obviously reactionary to our trade periods of past years. However this trade period will be different and I remain optimistic for the following.

I believe we haven't gone as hard at the players we've targeted as our number one priority was to retain our star players. This in turn creates loyalty and a culture that players buy into. Where we are now, we have Deledio, Cotchin, Riewoldt, Rance, Martin, Edwards, Ellis and Miles, the core of your top tier players all locked away on relatively long term deals. Previously we haven't had that and we could have quite realistically run the risk of bringing in say an Adams and Tyson for the loss of one or two of the names mentioned above due to this rigid pay structure we obviously have. Now that they're all locked away, I see it as we have nothing to lose and a free hit at bringing in quality players knowing we have our stars locked away. In hindsight, it's quite clear we've been building for this year.

Maybe I'm just the optimist but we will bring in quality this year.

We won't be quiet... we have well and truly going to push hard to improve our list. Whether we get the guys we want is another question. I'd be shocked, given our position in the so called "premeirship window" if we don't get at least one ready made player from another club. My bet would be Yarran. And I'd be happy with that.

I hope you're right, treloar is the one for me. I know we are heavily into him but all the talk is of the pies. Motlop would be a good get as well however not as important as treloar. As for yarran, yeah I'd take a punt but as long as we didn't give up much. If we walked away from the trade period with just yarran I'd be disappointed.

Hope we are also exploring the aish option.

Given its generating replies I'd say it is.
Replies that are either criticising the thread, or posting the same shit that should go in the Blair Hartley thread
Hardly validation of its existence because of your "gut feel"

Or, prepare to be amazed, delighted and pumped up!!

50% are criticizing your thread

Don't expect everyone to agree with what I posted. As for putting it in the Hartley thread, that has turned into a combination of the Tan and Fantasy Football with some hoping/expecting that we're going to land 3-5 best 22 types.

We'll be letdown if other clubs outbid us. Basically if clubs are happy to pay overs (Calling Collingwood) then there isn't much we can do. If the player wants $ then of they go. We should be attractive and have $. Whether that = players I'm not sure. There are enough around for us to get someone. But unless we go deep into September I suspect we won't look like potential premiers to players. SO we won't get the freebies the Hawks have.

Burn the whole *********************************** board, they've gone mad. Trading Deledio, False Dawn and Now ********** Prepare for letdown. What's next???????????????. Someone would of thought we were down s*** creek with Carlton and the Druggos.

Is it the clubs fault they get 'linked' to players?

There really needs to be a ' Negative Nellie ' thread where all the doomsdayers can go and chat amongst themselves.
Nothing to do with being a negative nellie, I hope that we do land one or even 2 quality players, but given our recent failures when it comes to landing a big name, I'm not sure we're going to.

i agree, then hopefully they will stop hijacking other threads.....
Hang on I got told I shouldn't have started this thread, but if I put this in the Hartley thread I'd be accused of trying to hijack the thread.

Patrick Dangerfield is a free agent type. I would be seriously let down if we picked him up.
