Slows you down having to have the spacebar fully come up before your next tap. That is where most of the speed is lost. Timing when the spacebar is just up again before being able to register another hit is where you can make up the most time.

If you had a very sensitive spacebar that didn't need to move much to record input then you could get a way higher score I think.

I'm not the speediest drummer, but if the spacebar was perfect I should be easily able to crack around 280 in 20 seconds.

The record is crazy though, 20 seconds for 370+ hits is like world-record drumming pace. Maybe they have an auto-fire on their keyboard!
