What are your thoughts on the number of games Prismall will get this year.

He is a gun IMO and was the most wasted player on any AFL list last year, but Geelongs midfield is just so good what do you do with him.

I was hoping he would have been traded to the pies but obviously Bomber has something in mind for him....

What role do you think he'll play this year?

Man if i see Byrnes in the team in front of a fit Prismall i'd be psdd!!

I think Prismall should get atleast 10 games this year. Its rediculous to see Byrnes in the team ahead of him, super talent going to waste, but yes, it will be interesting to see what Bomber does with him.

Agree I hope Prismall can get in the team. Due to our midfield strength he still may not be able to get in but he sure as hell should play before Byrnes.

Massive waste if in VFL, agree.

He has the best disposal at the whole club. Only near rival is probably Mackie and/or Hunt.

Really hope he makes a name for himself this year.

was unfortunate last year in that he wore the wrath of the match committee after rd 5, then re-injured himself in the VFL when it looked like he was close to a recall. By the time he was right to go it was too late in the season to slot him back in without sufficient match conditioning.

Hopefully he can keep his spot this year...
Unlucky last year getting dropped just before our winning streak started....

I know it's NAB but i rest my case!!!

Started a little slowly, though racking up possessions. A few times didn't have a good grip on the timing of the game, was caught out a couple of occasions in the first quarter.

However from that point on showed us why we've been raving about him and want him back in the squad. Very impressive in becoming the link man out of defence and following it down the ground.

Probably one of the best on ground, only slightly behind SJ.

If he isn't in the squad in round one and Byrnes is, then obviously Byrnes has done the deal with the devil or is Thompson's love child. That is the only way I can describe why Prismall isn't in the side because of Byrnes.

Agree on Gamble, this kid needs a start. He will be awesome when he gets going. Very athletic and unpredictable. Goal magnet.

Great start today by Priss, 35 (or so) possessions and one of the BOG. He looked a bit unsteady at the start but soon impressed with those classy foot skills.

I would think/hope Priss will be play 14+ games this season in the senior side. I really want to see him cement a spot although that is a tough ask when our team is so awesome. Priss was unlucky last year having not played that many games in the seniors, he just got injured at really bad times. I agree that he is an absolute gun and a wasted talent. He was clearly a class above VFL level last year. He has so much talent and eases the ball perfectly to team mates. I'm looking forward to watching him amongst the senior boys much more. :)

Well obviously Bomber don't know!!

I think bomber knows what sort of player he is. Prismall has just been very unlucky in his career to date. In his first game be broke his wrist a few minutes after coming on the ground.

Last year he did not play his best game against the Roos and was the unlucky one to lose his spot from the team after the poor performance from most in the club.

During his time in the VFL he showed he was a class above most but Geelong had started the winning streak which made it hard for him to get back into the team. He broke his arm again in the VFL which kept him out for some time and he only came back a week or so before Bartel burst his appendix so did not have the match fitness to take that chance to get back into the team.

After this they were not going to mess with the team structure unless something very bad happened.

He clearly does, because he made a personal effort to convince him to stay during trade week.

Prismall's problem is that he's no more skillful than our starting five midfielders, perhaps lacks the intensity of them, and doesn't really have another dimension to his game so can't slot into a position in the wider midfield rotation. His best chance for a spot is if someone like Kelly or Selwood move to a half forward/half back flank, or if their is an injury, because it's hard to see him outplaying either of them.

Disagree there, I think he is the most skillful out of them all except Gaz.
I'd like to see Kelly start at half forward and Prismall in the centre/wing instead.

I thought Kelly started at half forward anyway, and they have the likes of Ablett, Bartel, Corey and Ling in the centre/wing. I wonder how Prismall would go in the forward pocket in a similar role to Byrnes or Varcoe played last year, and pinch-hitting in the centre so the likes of Bartel and Gaz can rest in the forward pocket. Although after Bartel won the Brownlow last year, he'll be tagged most weeks this season, so it would be good to be able to play Prismall in the middle and have Bartel playing deep forward, since he's probably the best contested mark for a midfielder in the league. He'd outmark most of his opponents if left one-on-one in the goal square.

No matter how good people think he is,he will not dislodge any of our starting midfield.
Is he better than Bartel (brownlow medalist) -NO
Ablett (MVP) -NO
Ling (best tagger in the league -NO
We are talking about AA players here!

*shrug* His footskills at their best (and IMO he's a bit more inconsistent than some say) could well be the best, but as the complete package? I just don't see him bringing anything to the table that Corey, Bartel, Ablett, Kelly and Selwood don't already.

As has been said, his best hope is probably for Kelly to move onto a HFF and play the link-man, but Kelly is also sensational around clearances, so....can't see him playing a Byrnes/Varcoe role, he's probably not fast enough. The other option is to put Selwood back (he'd be more than capable) and have him slot in, but again, who is Selwood going to replace out of Woja/Enright?

Granted!!! and i agree.

I just wish Geelong would let him go to a club where he WILL play AFL, he must be getting frustrated and i dont think he'll do another season at Geelong watching from the VFL, and you cant blame him!!!

Just my thoughts

He's not going anywhere in a hurry, and certainly not to Collingwood. He was unlucky last year at times but will get to play some games this year. His worth to the team will be even greater next year when our salary cap squeeze comes into play.

Thomspson in today's Age:

He also saw good signs, not least Brent Prismall, whose task of breaking into a gilt-edged midfield may be immense, but will become much easier if he keeps amassing 30 possessions a game. "We've certainly got plans for him this year," Thompson said.
