Defending is bloody difficult.

Actually, defending is easy.

Are you using the button to draw another defender towards the opponent with the ball?

On the PS2 version (and the PC version I'm sure, although obviously I couldn't tell you which button - probably the "shoot" button), if you hold down the SQUARE button, one of your other defenders will attack the player with the ball.

Which means that you can take the player YOU are controlling and try to block passes, double team etc.....

I also got PES3 on PS2 on Sunday.

After having Fifa 2001 on PS2, and Fifa 02 & 03 on computer I eventually opted for PES3.

The Game play a far superior compared to Fifa 2003 (have not played 2004.) Still struggling at 3 star level, which is a good thing ;).

Sensational Game.

The editing doesn't really take long & is well worth it.

I like to tackle these games in a certain way. I'm just about finished winning all the trophies on Master league on easy & will move on through one level at a time, just like I did with PE1.

This way the game has a longer lifespan.

It is the little things that sets Pro Evo apart from the rest, you really do get rewarded for patient & varied play.

What's the best tactic for buying and selling players in the Master League - how long should I wait before starting and who are some of the better signings?

When approaching the player you want, try offering a trade. This ensures you don't end up with a squad of 30 odd (like me atm!)

You've got to try & trade the default squad away as they're not worth much. Releasing them incurrs a penalty.

Go to the conditional search & enter 0-1 for the contract remaining part. Soon enough players available on Free's will appear with green arrows beside their name.

Agathe was my first big signing, SPEED!!!

You can get kids like Rooney & Ronaldo fairly cheaply.

Sean Goater is scoring for fun for me :D

Also consider gettin a few youth players in, you can improve their attributes yourself in the early stages.

Your Squad must contain at least 16 players!

How do you do this. I cant find the Youth Player Screen they talk about in the game. How do i get youth players in?

Its certainly a fantastic game but the PC version has a few problems i reckon.

For a start whenever i choose to exit the game the computer locks up.

I game is still overly fast. Its probably 25-30% quicker than what it should be and im not sure whether its because i have a pretty good computer or whether the game hasnt been converted to PC very well or whether its even just the normal pace of the game...but the pace is a lot quicker than FIFA has ever been.

This makes going on any level other than 2 star very hard. I tried a match at 3 star level after doing a season in the master league and i got 1 shot on goal compared to 23 to the opposition and lost 5-0. On 3 star level at the pace it is its impossible to get any sort of movement going whatsoever.

The pace also makes it bloody hard to shoot altho ive begun to master it a bit. You really have to learn to slightly tap the shoot button because anymore than a slight tap and the power bar goes full.

Whever the ball goes near the box the speed slows down a lot to almost semi-slow motion, which im not sure is part of the game or not....but it sorta adds something a bit different.

I just finished the first season in master league, finished 4th, but i didnt read the part where it said you have to have a positive points finish after each season, i just thought it had to stay above -9,999. So i finished the year with -7,000 after buying a few players and ended up game over so i have to start again  :p

Great game tho. Loads of fun. I enjoy the fact its hard on 2 star level compared to bloody easy on 5 star level.

The "Growth" players are found on the screen where the Edit players are. Mine's a PS2 version so the first lot of teams are the international ones, one R1 (Tab on pc?) click & I get the Club sides & one more to the growth & edited players.

You must have at least 16 players at all times, You can't get too far in the red during the season & really gotta be at least level by the end. Look for bargains, they're there but it can take ages.

My advice would be to be patient, build a sensible squad. Go for kids like Wright-Phillips, Ronaldo, Rooney, Defoe etc. As guys like Beckham & Zidane set you back too much.

Some of the other probs you're having are the reason why I bought a console!

Took back Fifa2004, and swapped it for PES3 .. and OMG!! Best decision i've ever made. Still getting used to the controls, but that'll come. Doubt i could ever go back to Fifa. PES3 is the benchmark.

In the end, i was sucked to getting PES by all the positive talk about it here and on other soccer gaming boards. Don't regret swapping for it 'at all'!!! :D

How have Konami designed PES3 in comparison with PES2? Does it only have subtle, unnoticeable changes or are the improvements and changes in the gameplay worth spending $90 on?

To be honest I don't find it that different than PES 1. The master league & editing has improved & the game is harder but there aren't any overwhelming changes.

I skipped PES2.

TD, good to see you've finally seen the light!

Is there anyone who STILL prefers EA?

I noticed the changes going from PES1 to PES2 more than I did going from PES2 to PES3.

PES3 is basically PES2 with a few gameplay glitches fixed.........and bigger master league etc....

Worth spending $90?

If you have PES2, and you're not a complete soccer nut who needs to own each and every new version, then probably not - PES3 is not all that different. It's better, but PES2 is still fantastic.

If you only have PES1 (or no PES games) then I'd definately grab the new one.

I find the main difference is the smoother animation with each new version. If you go back and play PES1 after playing PES2 or 3, you'll notice the difference straight away.

I love the game but it dosn't look like you can curl the ball with shots or am I wrong? Ive read the instructions and done the tutorial no where is there any info on putting some curl on my shots which sucks.

Each player is marked individualy on "Curling".

Ashley Cole for example has a Curling mark of 91/100, I nearly scored direct from a corner with him. Some others only have a minimal curve, just like real life.

The swerve (aftertouch) is applied manually by you just as you relaease your shot. It like everything else in the game takes plenty of practice.

i just got the game today and i ****ing love it!

but bugger editing the players/teams yourself. check this out. 52mb patch that updates everything for you. and adds new teams as well i think.

actually, there's plenty of other downloads here that might interest people.

especially an italian 'super patch' which adds all the serie a teams/players/kits etc.
