Professionalism on and off the ground

Actually I was at the Gov for a gig after the Brisbane game a month or 2 ago, and if there was a no alcohol pact, Tommy Jonas, Sam Gray, Matt Broadbent and Youngy clearly weren't aware of it.
They've been open to the public about being allowed to have a drink if there's 7 or more days between games (it might be 8, but I'm sure it's only 7).

Who are the players to judge what is essential or not? I'm sure Ladey isn't just standing up there knowingly wasting his and everyone elses time. Therefore you have to assume that what he is trying to put across is of importance at least in his eyes.
Who are WE to decide? Lade is the boss, the boss is fine with it.

Arousal levels, particularly with athletes need to be managed.

Trust me, there was zero point zero arousal levels from what i sighted of that meeting! Other than the excitement of how much fluff they could extract out their belly buttons, the amount of dirt Impey was able to remove from his finger nails or Marshall's astonishment at the amount of chocolate topping in his sundae!

Recently i attended a 'Foxtel / AFL - Thanks Coach' masterclass session at Alberton with another 15 or so coaches (junior and senior) who were nominated by their clubs / players parents etc. It was totally unexpected but it was a such a fantastic opportunity and as a PAFC supporter i was in my element.

We had Ken, Matty Nicks and Aaron Greaves all spend some time with us running through everything from game day preparation, opposition analysis, coaching styles and much more including some good laughs. It was fantastic and it really showed me how professionally run the organisation is. I was thankful we'd beaten West Coast the week before or it may not have been such a relaxed atmosphere.

One thing really caught my eye however during one of the line meeting videos we watched. There was Ladey in the room and i believe it was Impey, Marshall and a few others. They were sitting around a long table with Lades at one end and the video screen/monitor at the other end. Lades was chatting about structures/positioning and more and i was quite taken aback to see what was seemingly a total lack of interest in a) what Lade was saying, b) what was being shown on the screen and c) simply the lack of respect shown to the line coach.

Impey was leaning back in his seat with his feet up on the table and picking at his fingernails, Marshall was more interested in his nut sundae he was eating (I was hoping he was doing this as instructed by his dieticians to add bulk) and there was another one playing with either a phone or something else in their hand. It concerned me when i sighted this to a point where I was thinking "is any of this getting through"!

I'm not running anyone (players) down, I'm not giving any secrets away (we've all been there in boring meetings) but at the end of the day this is an organisation with leadership teams and protocols. These meetings generally run for only 30m or so and if they cannot come in, show a little respect to their leader, listen, concentrate, contribute and learn then we are not getting the best out of these meetings.

You have to find that middle ground where you are not too strict but also not too lax and ensure your messages are getting through. Sometimes with Impey i wonder whether they are.

Let's leave them to deal with such an eye-witness report as they see fit.
