Been sitting back just taking everything in on our list and discussions etc.

I firmly believe that our first pick at years end should be a talented mid fielder.

However I think we need too be courageous and take a top prospective ruckman with our next pick.

This would allow us too then focus on our mid field thereafter. Anyoune out there got a list of the best 3 rucks in U18 comp.

I mean although this is done too death at times in terms of our line up, it's interesting too get others views on our list.

My simple reasoning is this:

Forward options:

Fevola, Whitnall, Kennedy, Waite, Fisher, Lappin, Wiggins (follow on from Eagles game crucial but very promising), Betts.

Defensive Options:

Thornton, Hartlett, Bower, Carazzo, (Livo / Saddington outer choices) plus mix of smaller back pocket players (Russell, Houla, Scotland - rotations)

Simply our ruck and midfield options can be vastly improved at years end and we take a sharp increase in our performance.

I just really think we need to snare a premier junior ruckman early on with our second pick, and then our remaining picks can go too mid fielders.

Our future ruck options lie with Mclaren, Aisake, and Bateson ??.

At years end, the recruiters at Carlton face a bit of a dilema, albeit a good one. Should the current ladder positions stay as they are, Carlton would get the second pick.

I think it's fair to say that Essendon would draft Bryce Gibbs, a highly skilled midfielder from Adelaide. That leaves Carlton is a position to draft, IMO, a few drafting options. Do they go for:

Lachlan Hansen, a dominant KPP that can play forward and back and would slot in nicely at CHB alongside Bower, Thornton and Hartlett (Yes Cypher, Hartlett down back :thumbsu: )

James Sellar, a ruckman cum forward. Looking forward to watching this kid play this afternoon as well.

Or do we go for Thorp, Leubenberger, Selwood, Jetta?

Me, i'd go for Hansen. Would just finish off our spread of talls nicely, and then load up on mids after that.

hey mate, here are the top 3 ive heard about

  • James Sellar - 195cm (maybe taller) - Glenelg - estimated top 5
  • Matt Leuenberger - 201cm - East Perth - estimated 8-12
  • Brent Renouf - 200cm - Southport - estimated 20-25
so as you can see, if we were to use our 2nd pick, it would most likely be for Renouf. Don't get me wrong, ive seen him play once and he is very capable, but may need a few years to put on some size.

However if Leuenberger, falls to our 2nd pick, i would snap him up immediately. He is one of the best young tap ruckmens ive seen and he'll only get better.

Seller will be gone by our 2nd pick for sure.

Hope

Its going to be a good season next year.

My first preference is Gibbs. I want him in the team badly

But if he falls to the Bombers, Im certainly happy to take Hansen. I cant wait to the nationals to see all these players match up on each other. Ive never seen Hansen play, But the wraps on him sound good.

Yeah i'm looking forward to the U18 champs as well. I'm in Adelaide over the weekend and i'm off to watch Glenelg play the Eagles to have a look at Gibbs and Hansen. I'll do a write up later today to let you guys know what I thought.

Also, hope that we can trade for draft picks! I know there's about a zillion threads out there out this but is any clubs going to trade away a 1st draft pick this year?

One of two things. Either the trade is just too good to refuse and a club has to part with a first round pick or

Deal with the Kangaroos

HBF - did you get to the Glenelg match? what were your impressions of Gibbs and Sellar?

Cheers
