It really is quite clear the review was just a targetted hit on Pyke rather than a legitimate attempt to improve the club.
Way too early to jump at shadows. The review has not even finished has it?

I would guess Pyke fell on his sword because he probably knew the review would highlight his failures. Same reasons Tex probably stepped down as captain. Otis fairly obvious that we have underachieved and finally enough is enough. It’s a revolution

He said we have some very good people at the club. Which is true. They also have some not very good people at the club. Let’s hope they go after the review.

Yes. We have not been tough/strong enough as a club. One example is on field - the long term investment in barely acceptable 'role players' who are gold passed, while others are chopped and shopped. We need more ruthlessness.
And we need the toughness to be exhibited from the top down in club management, as opposed to the close knit friendly privileged social broad business environment we stay immersed in.

Nope, Rory asked how can we reconcile two conflicting statements from Chapman.

You said it was crap, you then denied Chapman said it. You then made up an alternate explanation to what Chapman said.

Basically you spoke crap and have doubled down since.
In the overall scheme of things... does it really ****ing matter?

Pyke is a man who controls his own destiny. Seems he did that. Especially if no payout. It does seem like it was pointing towards him getting sacked.

Walk out like a man, rather than crawl out like a schmuck.

Having a few mill in the bank and not relying on his coaching income buys that dignity.

All class, the Don. I will never forget that press conference where Burton lied through his teeth and Pyke stepped in, represented his players and took responsibility for the mistakes the club made.

I will never forget that press conference where Pyke said we had nothing to play for  when a remote finals spot was up for grabs. I knew then he was over cooked.

But Chappy will stick with the club to ensure it is in good shape and good hands for the future before he walks. I laughingly remember Trigg using the same rationale when he finally got pointed toward the door.

Chap is on the way out. Yeah maybe too long to go, but at least he will be gone soon.

No plan B ??

Not correct
He had a plan B.

It was Neil Craig/Bassettball. And it was worse than plan A.

Pyke is an good coach. Being able.to change up the way we played this year in a short time frame shows he is an good teacher and implementer.

Just a shame that new style was a failure. Only beating GC and St Kilda since the bye.

So can someone please reconcile for me the following two things that have been reported today:
1. Pyke stepping down is not related to the review that is in progress
2. Chapman saying on 5AA that now that Pyke has stepped down they expect the review to be completed earlier
I hate Chappy as much as the next bloke, but if we take it on face value that it was Don's decision, it's entirely possible that it would still shorten the review. If a big portion of the review was "Find out whether current coach's position is tenable", they can scratch the whole exercise because the decision is already made. You'd hope they're still reviewing the coaches as a whole, but no need to spend time on "Is Pyke right for the job?"

No i denied the inference that Pyke gone means review can be concluded.

That's clearly not the case.

The review is the review, what Chapman expects is completely irrelevant.

No, a poster loosely quoted Chapman and you responded with a quote of your own to disprove their quote and had a crack at them while doing it. And you were wrong, just accept that you're a fully blown apologist, we know it anyway, it's not news, and move on.

Surely he's been approached by the Dockers since Lyon was given the boot. I know he's quite well off financially either way, but you don't just walk away from a few million without a contingency plan...
I wouldn't be surprised if he ends up in a 'coaching director' role at Freo if they go with a rookie coach. Would be a great role for him.

So you’ve slipped back into Nanny mode?
You have a go at me for picking people up on things (Nanny mode you call it) where all you seem to do is pick people about minute shit they got wrong, and you don't let it go. It's all about ****ing point scoring. At least if I'm picking people up it's because i'm expecting them to be half decent human beings with a modicum of respect. All you want to do is argue until you win a ****ing point. It's bloody tiresome.

You can just say I'm right, it's fine.

Your simpleton assessment of things really isn't needed.

Has the AFC got a perennial problem of the tail wagging the dog as far as coaches are concerned ?

Excluding PHIL Walsh, the only one to emerge unscathed (not counting Pykey at this stage) from the list is Blight, And he kicked arse when he started so as to ram home who was the boss!

Not in order Cornes
Shaw
Ayers
Bickley
Craig
Campo
Blight
Sanderson
Walsh
Pyke

How many of these were sacked ? Cos almost none have gone on to bigger and better things. The AFC graveyard.

First off, this board is about posters discussing and debating topics. In this instance Rory made a point and Cap said it was crap. I merely pointed out to Cap that he was wrong and he doubled down, hence the debate continues, that’s how it goes, if you don’t like how the board operates then you have options available to you.

On to your point about you picking up people so they “are half decent human beings”, can you see anything wrong with that? What if what you judge people as poor says more about you than us? Why is it your role to be this moral crusader? None of us asked to have a Nanny. There’s also the fact that quite often you’ve exposed yourself as a hypocrite, so really why would we listen to you anyway?

As I said, you’ve got options, but you don’t take them. You prefer instead to post in topics and threads where you know exactly the type of posts that are going to be posted, but you can’t help yourself.

The way Pyke answered the question and looked at Chapman and tge way Chapman respknded

There seems to be a payout being negotiated

On SM-N960F using BigFooty.com mobile app
Agree with this. Chapman gave a politicians answer on 5AA whether Pyke gets a payout. Said something akin the lines that “Don has resigned. These sort of employment contracts have standard term inaction clauses. Those clauses don’t require a termination payment.”

Ie he didn’t directly answer the question as to whether one would be paid. Just spoke in general.

Fagan just confirmed no payout, as he resigned. Only payment is what is normally paid when someone resigns which will have no impact on the soft cap.
I swear to god, if I see this headline next year:

"Crows lose draft picks following undeclared payout to Don Pyke"

I will go down there and drag the prick off his Chairman's seat myself.

Chapman said on 5AA there's no payout. Now whether he thinks he's found a loophole and if the AFL agree it's legit I don't know. So don't be surprised if we're here this time next year having been done for rorting the AFL's cap on the football department.
No he didn’t. Listen again. He said the standard clauses in the contract don’t require a termination payment. He gave a politicians answer that could have two meanings. The wool being pulled over everyone’s eyes again by the AFC.

Blight walked away of his own volition. Walsh passed away in office. The caretakers (Bickley & Campo) weren't sacked, but neither were they appointed to the position full time.
