QAFL 2026 - Tradition V Trivia

🥰 Love BigFooty? Join now for free.

The thread that (almost) nobody wanted!
A similar intro/caveat as last year:
Once again, subject to work and family priorities, I will aim to share some historical info for each round. Sometimes it can get a bit repetitive, so try to bear with it.
I appreciate that these posts are not of interest to everyone, so here they are in a separate thread for 2026. If you want to read them, I hope you enjoy what you see. Alternatively, if this is not your scene at all, please feel free to ignore it.
This can be as serious or as superficial as you wish. Is it self-indulgent? Is it a waste of time? Is it relevant? All of those answers are up to you.
But even if it is simply a diversion from day-to-day matters, that’s not such a bad thing, is it?

For anyone interested:

Here we go again.

Round 1

Labrador V Broadbeach

Played 65: Labrador 25 - Broadbeach 40 (1997-2025)
QAFL Scoreboard: Labrador 695–678–4848 V Broadbeach 807–752–5594
Last Time: 2025 R20 – Labrador 15-8-98 d Broadbeach 10-11-71 at Broadbeach
I’ve got the QAFL-level history – but their contests go much further back. The extra history covers 1971 to 1996, I believe. (Maybe one day, I’ll recover GCAFL history. Or you can send it to me now, if you have already compiled it.)
Labrador has won the past three encounters.

Maroochydore V Aspley
Played 7: Maroochydore 2 – Aspley 5 (2022-2025)
Overall 26: Maroochydore 14 – Aspley 12 (1993-1997, 2005-2008, 2022-2025)
QAFL Scoreboard: Maroochydore 71–67-493 V Aspley 88–86–614
Last Time: 2025 R10 - Aspley 15-12-102 d Maroochydore 13-6-84 at Graham Road
Not a lot happening here at QAFL-level. However, they did battle in the 1996 BAFL Grand Final (won by the Roos by 16 points).

Noosa V Coorparoo
Played 2: Noosa 1 – Coorparoo 1 (2025)
Overall 14: Noosa 12 – Coorparoo 2 (1994-1995, 2017-2020, 2025)
QAFL Scoreboard: Noosa 36–23–239 V Coorparoo 23-22-160
Last Time: 2025 R20 – Coorparoo 15-15-105 d Noosa 15-13-103 at Weyba Road
With only 1 QAFL season against each other, we cannot expect much to comment on here. There is a pre-QAFL history – but even that is quite minor in terms of numbers.
One for the purists: almost all the games have involved Coorparoo Kings – except for the 1994/1995 games which featured Coorparoo Roos. Its up to you how you process that.

Morningside V Palm Beach Currumbin
Played 23: Morningside 14 - Palm Beach 9 (2014-2025)
QAFL Scoreboard: Morningside 271-257-1883 V Palm Beach 271-252-1878
Last Time: 2025 R11 – Palm Beach 19-12-126 d Morningside 11-10-76 at Esplen Oval
This record represents the entirety of their clashes.
The Panthers have a better Win/Loss record – but if Palm Beach can win by 5 points this weekend, then the Scoreboard will be locked up dead even.

Mt Gravatt V Sherwood
Played 34: Mt Gravatt 21 - Sherwood 13 (2001-2004, 2009-2010, 2014-2025)
Overall 94: Mt Gravatt 41 – Sherwood 53 (1967-1982, 2001-2004, 2009-2010, 2014-2025)
QAFL Scoreboard: Mt Gravatt 444-408-3072 V Sherwood 427-370-2932
Last Time: 2025 10 – Sherwood 23-8-146 d Mt Gravatt 4-5-29 at Dittmer Park
This was quite a celebrated clash during the early SQAFA years. The Magpies enjoyed a much better success rate overall (because, you know, they won a lot of flags) – but each time they played, you expected something noteworthy to occur.
By my estimate, the two clubs will play their 100th game against each other (at Senior level, of course) in three years’ time, 2028. Given recent progress that might be optimistic – but I hope it eventuates, as if it does, things are looking up.

Redland-Victoria Point V Surfers Paradise
Played 11: Redland 9 - Surfers Paradise 2 (2021-2025)
QAFL Scoreboard: Redland 160-112-1072 V Surfers Paradise 113-104-782
Last Time: 2025 GF – Redland 14-11-95 d Surfers Paradise 8-9-57 at Brighton Homes Arena
Launching Round 1 with a Grand Final Replay. The history may be relatively mundane – but as a Replay, this game will hold a great deal of interest.
The Sharks have won the last five encounters.

Wilston Grange get the Bye this week.

With over 8,600 QAFL results recorded, it is a shame that we are dealing with such small numbers. With a little bit of stability, and a whole lot of time, those clash numbers will build again.

If anyone disagrees with any details, or has more information to share, please let me know – I am happy to correct any records I have saved.

Enjoy. :thumbsu:

Round 1 Results

The Matter that’s Stuff

A highly competitive round to commence the new season. Four of the six games with very close margins. That might not be sustainable for the year – but it still provides for a certain level of expectation from 2026.
For now, here are some potentially useless scraps of local trivia from Round 1:

Labrador 12-12-84 d Broadbeach 12-10-82
Played 66: Labrador 26 - Broadbeach 40 (1997-2026)
(Plus all those pre-1997 GCAFL clashes)
Is it fair to say most of us were not expecting a result this close? This is the equal closest result between the two clubs in QAFL records.
This score has occurred once previously:
1949 R11: Mayne 12-12-84 d Western Districts 12-10-82 (Toowong)
The margin of 2 points has now occurred 136 times (8th most common margin).

Maroochydore 17-13-115 d Aspley 8-13-61
Played 8: Maroochydore 3 – Aspley 5 (2022-2026)
Overall 27: Maroochydore 15 – Aspley 12 (1993-1997, 2005-2008, 2022-2026)
The greatest margin of the weekend, this is Maroochydore’s first ever QAFL win over Aspley at Neil Upton Oval.
This score has occurred once previously:
1980 R16: Western Districts 17-13-115 d Sandgate 8-13-61 (Chelmer)
The margin of 54 points has now occurred 67 times.

Noosa 11-10-76 d Coorparoo 10-8-68
Played 3: Noosa 2 – Coorparoo 1 (2025-2026)
Overall 15: Noosa 13 – Coorparoo 2 (1994-1995, 2017-2020, 2025-2026)
Only a small sample size to work with, but 144 points is the lowest aggregate score between the two clubs. Looks like it was another close tussle.
This score has occurred thrice previously:
1925 SF: Windsor 11-10-76 d Mayne 9-14-68 (Kedron Park)
1954 R13: Morningside 11-10-76 d Wilston Grange 10-8-68 (Windsor Park)
2023 R7: Maroochydore 11-10-76 d Morningside 10-8-68 (Jack Esplen Oval)
The margin of 8 points has now occurred 140 times (equal 6th most common margin).

Morningside 11-11-77 d Palm Beach Currumbin 9-10-64
Played 24: Morningside 15 - Palm Beach 9 (2014-2026)
Palm Beach won both encounters in 2025, so the Panthers would be extra happy to claim the Win here.
I’m surprised! This score has never occurred before in QAFL fixtures.
The margin of 13 points has now occurred 125 times.

Mt Gravatt 13-12-90 d Sherwood 13-11-89
Played 35: Mt Gravatt 22 - Sherwood 13 (2001-2004, 2009-2010, 2014-2026)
Overall 95: Mt Gravatt 42 - Sherwood 53 (1967-1982, 2001-2004, 2009-2010, 2014-2026)
In many respects, it is great to see Mt Gravatt have a win. Let’s not over-analyse it, and simply take it for what it is: a win to the Vultures after a long wait.
The two clubs have never played a draw. This is their closest result in QAFL competitions. Back in SQAFA days, from “known” scores, there were three previous one-point margins: 1969, 1976 and 1978 (although we probably shouldn’t discuss that last one). Previously, Sherwood was the victor each time – this is the first time that Mt Gravatt has turned the tables.
Little consolation, but Sherwood scored their 3,000th QAFL point against Mt Gravatt in this game.
This score has occurred thrice previously:
1970 R16: Morningside 13-12-90 d Kedron 13-11-89
1993 R5: Mayne 14-6-90 d Coorparoo 13-11-89
2005 QF: Zillmere 13-12-90 d Morningside 14-5-89
The margin of 1 point has now occurred 145 times (2nd most common margin).

Surfers Paradise 20-9-129 d Redland-Victoria Point 15-9-99
Played 12: Surfers Paradise 3 – Redland 9 (2021-2026)
It’s a Grand Final Replay – but from a historical perspective, there is not a lot to get excited about.
The Demons’ win broke a run of five victories for the Sharks.
Hang on! Here’s another: every victory that Surfers Paradise has had over Redland has occurred at the Victoria Point ground.
This score has occurred once previously:
1984 R17: Morningside 20-9-129 d Southport 14-15-99 (Hawthorne)
The margin of 30 points has now occurred 114 times.

When was the last time we had three games decided by 9 points or less in the one round?
Actually, it wasn’t long ago at all.
It was Round 15, 2025: Noosa over Maroochydore by 3, Redland over Aspley by 9, and Coorparoo over Sherwood by 4.
With so many clubs in the QAFL competition now, it is not a rare occurrence. The penultimate time was only Round 18, 2024. And the time before that was Round 13, 2022.
I’m almost sorry I brought it up now.
(Of course, the more close games, the better.)

For anyone interested:

Let’s begin the week with a lament. Nothing to be too worked up about – although it is a reflection of the nature of the current competition: of all the Round 2 contests, none of the clubs played each other in a Senior fixture in the 20th Century. Not even in a lower division.
Is that incredible? I think it is for a competition that formed 122 years ago.
The earliest occurrence is Sherwood and Redland who first met in 2001.

Round 2

Broadbeach V Noosa

Played 5: Broadbeach 4 - Noosa 1 (2021-2025)
QAFL Scoreboard: Broadbeach 73-67-505 V Noosa 41-33-279
Last Time: 2025 R7 – Noosa 13-12-90 d Broadbeach 9-8-62 at Weyba Road
A common theme this Round: their only contests have been at QAFL-level. The two clubs have never played each other twice in a season – until this year when it will happen in Round 10.
So, breaking new ground there……

Aspley V Labrador
Played 17: Aspley 9 – Labrador 8 (2009-2013, 2022-2025)
QAFL Scoreboard: Aspley 221-216-1542 V Labrador 193-173-1331
Last Time: 2025 R8 – Labrador 13-5-83 d Aspley 11-11-77 at Cooke-Murphy Oval
It’s a close record. Labrador has the opportunity to balance out the Wins this week.

Palm Beach Currumbin V Mt Gravatt
Played 22: Palm Beach 20 – Mt Gravatt 2 (2014-2025)
QAFL Scoreboard: Palm Beach 350-285-2385 V Mt Gravatt 205-218-1448
Last Time: 2025 R2 – Palm Beach 29-12-186 d Mt Gravatt 5-6-36 at Dittmer Park
Right now, in 2026, one club is undefeated, whilst the other is yet to register a win – and they’re probably not the teams you would expect.
That might change this weekend. It is quite a one-sided record. Palm Beach is currently on a 14-game winning streak.

Sherwood V Redland-Victoria Point
Played 19: Sherwood 2 – Draw 1 – Redland 16 (2001-2004, 2009-2010, 2021-2025)
QAFL Scoreboard: Sherwood 181-179-1265 V Redland 309-276-2130
Last Time: 2025 R5 – Redland 10-9-69 d Sherwood 10-7-67 at Powenyenna Park
Both clubs had origins in the SQAFA/BAFL competitions – but their Seniors never met there.
The last two games between the clubs have been decided by less than one goal each time, one win each. Remarkably, the scores are almost identical – aside from the score shown above, their previous clash resulted in a 3-point win to Sherwood (Sherwood 9-15-69 d Redland 9-12-66)

Surfers Paradise V Morningside
Played 23: Surfers Paradise 12 – Morningside 11 (2014-2025)
QAFL Scoreboard: Surfers Paradise 263-233-1811 V Morningside 273-221-1859
Last Time: 2025 R7 – Morningside 10-13-73 d Surfers Paradise 8-9-57 at Jack Esplen Oval
This has to be the Match Of The Round, right?
Another very even record. Hypothetically, if the Demons can win by 48 points, then the entire history will be dead-even.
However, of the 23 games so far, 9 have been decided by a margin of less than two goals – so maybe it will be close again.

Wilston Grange V Maroochydore
Played 15: Wilston Grange 7 – Maroochydore 8 (2011-2013, 2020-2025)
Overall 26: Wilston Grange 13 – Maroochydore 13 (2005-2013, 2020-2025)
QAFL Scoreboard: Wilston Grange 205-163-1393 V Maroochydore 189-160-1294
Overall Scoreboard: Wilston Grange 346-292-2368 V Maroochydore 332-290-2282
Last Time: 2025 R18 – Maroochydore 10-10-70 d Wilston Grange 7-15-57 at Hickey Park
The third extremely close record for the Round. This is the only clash that has pre-QAFL history. The Roos have won the last two games.

Coorparoo (Kings) get the Bye this week.

If anyone disagrees with any details, or has more information to share, please let me know. I am happy to correct any records I have saved.

Enjoy. :thumbsu:

For anyone interested:

I’ve got a little extra time this week – so I thought I would have a crack at the QFA Div 1 Round 1 fixtures.
Let’s get the excuses out early: this is tough. A lack of continuity of competitions, multiple teams competing for various clubs, and the fluctuation of each club’s performances all combine to make this a bit more difficult.
I have tried to limit this to “Seniors V Seniors” for each club.
Also, at a certain point, Results simply do not exist. They have been lost, discarded, ignored, abandoned. It’s a sad truth about Queensland clubs and their respective histories. (I’m hoping someone will prove me wrong on this.)

Anyway, here is what could be located:

Round 1

Mayne V Springwood

Played 35: Mayne 16 - Springwood 19
Years of competition:

Caloundra V Moreton Bay
Played 42: Caloundra 23 – Moreton Bay 19
Years of competition:
Caloundra and Caboolture commenced in the Sunshine Coast League in 1973. The two clubs competed against each other at various times (with some interruptions) – up until Caboolture left the SCAFL to join the SQAFA in 1991.

Sandgate V University of Queensland
Played 24: Sandgate 17 – University of Qld 7
Years of competition:
QANFL: 1960: 2-0
QAFL: 2014-2016: 3-3
QFA Div 1: 2025: 0-2

Hinterland has the Bye this week.

(I don’t think I will do this every week.)

If anyone disagrees with any details, or has more information to share, please let me know. I am happy to correct any records I have saved.

Good luck with the above.

Round 2 Results

The Matter that’s Stuff

I thought it was an unremarkable Round of results – so I’ve tested the limits of our mutual patience this week by finding anything I could.
For now, here are some potentially useless scraps of local trivia from Round 2:

Broadbeach 16-17-113 d Noosa 16-8-104
Played 6: Broadbeach 5 – Noosa 1 (2021-2026)
Across only 6 games so far, this game represents the Closest Margin with 9 points (previously 18 points), and the Greatest Aggregate of 217 points (previously 193 points).
This score has occurred once previously:
2025 PF2: Redland 17-11-113 d Morningside 16-8-104 (Victoria Point)
The margin of 9 points has now occurred 135 times.

Labrador 12-13-85 d Aspley 7-6-48
Played 18: Labrador 9 – Aspley 9 (2009-2013, 2022-2026)
This was the equal lowest scoring shots by Aspley against Labrador (13 scores) – and the lowest ever scoring shots by Aspley against Labrador at Home.
Here is something though: Aspley has been restricted to less than 10 goals across their last 4 games. This has not occurred since 2009 when they were held to single-digit goals for 5 games (Rounds 7 to 11).
This score has never occurred before in QAFL fixtures.
The margin of 37 points has now occurred 89 times.

Palm Beach 28-9-177 d Mt Gravatt 5-6-36
Played 23: Palm Beach 21 – Mt Gravatt 2 (2014-2026)
This was Palm Beach’s highest score against Mt Gravatt at Home.
Also, these two clubs have played each other in Round 2 for three consecutive seasons. Oddly, the score last year was Palm Beach 29-12-186 d Mt Gravatt 5-6-36
This score has never occurred before in QAFL fixtures.
The margin of 141 points has now occurred 3 times.

Redland-Vic Point 16-15-111 d Sherwood 12-11-83
Played 20: Redland-Vic Point 17 – Draw 1 - Sherwood 2 (2001-2004, 2009-2010, 2021-2026)
A really average result – and I’m not being disparaging. The Sharks’ average score against Sherwood is 112 (2130 / 19 = 112.1).
This score has never occurred before in QAFL fixtures.
The margin of 28 points has now occurred 108 times.

Surfers Paradise 12-17-89 d Morningside 10-10-70
Played 24: Surfers Paradise 13 – Morningside 11 (2014-2026)
I’m sure it was a great game to watch – but from a historical perspective, I haven’t really got anything to share.
How about: the Demons scored their 250th behind against Morningside. Or maybe: the overall score margin between the two clubs is now only 29 points (275-250-1900 to 283-231-1929 respectively).
This score has occurred once previously:
2024 R17: Broadbeach 13-11-89 d Wilston Grange 10-10-70 (Neptune Homes Oval)
The margin of 19 points has now occurred 128 times.

Maroochydore 21-18-144 d Wilston Grange 16-9-105
Played 16: Maroochydore 9 – Wilston Grange 7 (2011-2013, 2020-2026)
Overall 27: Maroochydore 14 – Wilston Grange 13 (2005-2013, 2020-2026)
A relatively high-scoring game. At a combined score of 249, this was the greatest aggregate between the two clubs (previously was 236 points).
We’re only two Rounds into the season – but I wonder if scores are trending up. (Good weather so far?) It might be something to look at after a few more Rounds.
This score has occurred once previously:
2011 R8: Wilston Grange 22-12-144 d Burleigh 16-9-105 (Hickey Park)
The margin of 39 points has now occurred 92 times.

I guess if you look closely enough, there is always something to find.

For anyone interested:

Could be a quick one this week:

QAFL Round 3

Coorparoo V Aspley

Played 1: Coorparoo 0 – Aspley 1 (2025)
QAFL Scoreboard: Coorparoo 8-11-59 V Aspley 10-19-79
Last Time: 2025 R11 – Aspley 10-19-79 d Coorparoo 8-11-59 at Giffin Park
They’ve only ever played one QAFL game. What were you expecting here?
Depending upon your perspective, they do have some past history. Across 1993 and 1994, both Coorparoo (Roos) and Aspley competed in the BAFL, meeting four times for two wins each.
And that can bring us to a problem with viewing the past. Aspley was promoted to the AFLQ Div 1 in 2009. Yet, Coorparoo (Kings) and Aspley continued to compete against each other. We have situation where the Kings’ Seniors are playing a third-level Aspley club. That does not diminish the efforts and the results of the games. However, it is a reflection that there is a state of flux that afflicts the local competitions for the past few decades. Any look back could often need to have a “single club” perspective, especially for the organisations that have experienced a rise and/or fall.
This will not be solved today.

Mt Gravatt V Maroochydore
Played 12: Mt Gravatt 5 – Maroochydore 7 (1998-1999, 2020-2025)
QAFL Scoreboard: Mt Gravatt 137-107-929 V Maroochydore 184-170-1274
Last Time: 2025 R11 – Maroochydore 28-23-191 d 8-2-50 at Neil Upton Oval
Maroochydore has won the last seven games between the two clubs.
Mt Gravatt is only 71 points away from kicking 1000 against the Roos.
Another 16 goals will give Maroochydore their 200th goal against Mt Gravatt.
Some more minor history: both clubs met in the BAFL 1993 when Maroochydore won two encounters.

Labrador V Palm Beach Currumbin
Played 26: Labrador 12 – Draw 1 - Palm Beach 13 (2014-2025)
QAFL Scoreboard: Labrador 311-259-2125 V Palm Beach 309-298-2152
Last Time: 2025 R3 – Palm Beach 19-16-130 d Labrador 8-8-56 at Salk Oval
Only 27 points (and one win to PBC) separating them in the all-time scoreboard.
Another contest with past history – and this one is significant. I believe the two clubs competed from 1965 to 1996 when the Tigers were promoted to the QSFL.

Redland-Victoria Point V Morningside
Played 41: Redland 13 – Morningside 28 (2000-2013, 2021-2025)
QAFL Scoreboard: Redland 508-478-3526 V Morningside 668-537-4545
Last Time: 2025 PF2 – Redland 17-11-113 d Morningside 16-8-104 at Dowling Park
The only clash this week that has no pre-QAFL history at all.

Sherwood V Broadbeach
Played 34: Sherwood 6 – Broadbeach 28 (2001-2004, 2009-2010, 2014-2025)
QAFL Scoreboard: Sherwood 339-325-2359 V Broadbeach 495-441-3411
Last Time: 2025 R19 – Sherwood 10-18-78 d Broadbeach 9-5-59 at Broadbeach
The last four games have been won by the visitors.
More GCAFL history! After Sherwood was dropped from the QAFL following the 1987 season, I believe the Magpies joined the Gold Coast competition. I understand they continued there until the end of the 1990 season – so there would three years of fixtures between these two clubs.

Noosa V Wilston Grange
Played 13: Noosa 3 - Wilston Grange 10 (2011-2013, 2021-2025)
QAFL Scoreboard: Noosa 132-128-920 V Wilston Grange 183-176-1274
Last Time: 2025 R1 – Noosa 8-14-62 d Wilston Grange 5-9-39 at Hickey Park
More pre-history! From 1998 to 2000, and 2002 to 2010, their respective Seniors met on 33 occasions with Noosa successful 27 times (plus 1 Draw). Seven of these games were finals. So, the overall total is:
Played 46: Noosa 30 – Draw 1 – Wilston Grange 15

Surfers Paradise has the Bye this week.

Bit of a rush job this week. If anyone disagrees with any details, or has more information to share, please let me know. I am happy to correct any records I have saved.

Enjoy.

Round 3 Results

The Matter that’s Stuff

Once again, here are some potentially useless scraps of info from Round 3:

Aspley 17-16-118 d Coorparoo 7-8-50
Played 2: Aspley 2 – Coorparoo 0 (2025-2026)

Kept it brief this week to try a different look:
At the end of a game, and your team has kicked 15 goals 10, have you ever found yourself wondering, “How many times has that score occurred in the past?”
Well, of course you have. Who could stop thinking about something like that!
So, this week, I thought I would have a look at how many times each team’s score this week has been registered in the past, and what the Win/Loss ratio looks like for those scores:

Aspley: 17-16-118 - 55 times (W 46 – L 9)
Broadbeach: 14-13-97 - 84 times (W 52 – L 32)
Coorparoo: 7-8-50 - 99 times (W6 – D 2 – L 91)
Labrador: 9-10-64 - 103 times (W 25 – D 1 – L 77)
Maroochydore: 16-10-106 - 38 times (W 26 – L 12)
Morningside: 13-11-89 - 114 times (W 52 – D 7 – L 55)
Mt Gravatt: 12-4-76 - 12 times (W 6 – L 6)
Noosa: 19-14-128 - 43 times (W 43 – L 0)
Palm Beach: 12-11-83 - 103 times (W 48 – D 1 – L 54)
Redland: 21-15-141 - 28 times (W25 – D 1 – L 2)
Sherwood: 13-8-86 - 67 times (W25 – L 42)
Wilston Grange: 6-13-49 - 35 times (W8 – D 1 – L 26)

Is it just a little remarkable that historically, a scoreline of 6-13-49 (22.9%) is more likely to get you a win than 7-8-50 (6.1%)?
Or that 19-14-128 has NEVER been a losing score? Yet a tremendous score of 21-15-141 has been a losing score twice!
It’s not earth-shattering – but I find it interesting.

QAFL Scoreboard: Broadbeach 249-198-1692 V Aspley 230-206-1586
Last Time: 2025 R4 – Aspley 13-10-88 d Broadbeach 7-13-55 at Graham Road
It’s the 2022 Grand Final Replay!
Not a great deal of history – but the Cats have a good record over their opponent this week.

Noosa V Maroochydore
Played 15: Noosa 7 – Draw 1 - Maroochydore 7 (2011-2013, 2021-2025)
QAFL Scoreboard: Noosa 163-166-1144 V Maroochydore 171-176-1202
Last Time: 2025 R15 – Noosa 11-18-84 d Maroochydore 12-9-81 at Weyba Road
I imagine the entire Sunshine Coast stops for these clashes. Their QAFL record cannot be split.
Their non-QAFL history began in the Sunshine Coast League from 1970 to 1992 (records not available) – continuing into the BAFL from 1993 to 1997 (5 – 11 respectively). Other non-QAFL competitions included 2005 to 2010 (11 – 3) and 2014 to 2019 (12 – 10).

Mt Gravatt V Redland-Victoria Point
Played 40: Mt Gravatt 21 – Redland VP 19 (2000-2013, 2021-2025)
QAFL Scoreboard: Mt Gravatt 653-516-4434 V Redland VP 567-490-3892
Last Time: 2025 R19 – Redland VP 15-14-104 d Mt Gravatt 10-13-73 at Dittmer Park
Comparatively, the Vultures' last game against Redland was quite competitive.
Who can tell what will happen this week!
The Sharks are on a 12-game winning streak.
The two clubs also have SQAFA/BAFL history, competing from 1988 to 1993 with a record of 11 wins to Mt Gravatt and 5 to Redland.

Sherwood V Coorparoo
Played 12: Sherwood 2 – Coorparoo 10 (1983-1987, 2025)
QAFL Scoreboard: Sherwood 151-139-1045 V Coorparoo 238-162-1590
Last Time: 2025 R15 – Coorparoo 13-6-84 d Sherwood 12-8-80 at Powenyenna Park
Yes, the history of Coorparoo Roos is included in these notes. If we’re talking history of some form, I’m happy to include more rather than less.

Surfers Paradise V Labrador
Played 24: Surfers Paradise 12 – Labrador 12 (2014-2025)
QAFL Scoreboard: Surfers Paradise 256-245-1781 V Labrador 261-234-1800
Last Time: 2025 SF2 – Surfers Paradise 15-13-103 d Labrador 8-8-56 at Sir Bruce Small Park
Another supremely close QAFL record. Even the Scoreboard only has a difference of 19 points across 24 games. Surprisingly, in that time, only 5 games have been decided by a margin of two goals or less.
More GCAFL history! The two clubs competed from 1964 to 1966, and 1968 to 1996, when Labrador was promoted to the QSFL. (I won’t repeat myself at this point about missing GCAFL results.)

Wilston Grange V Morningside
Played 125: Wilston Grange 51 – Draw 1 – Morningside 73 (1950, 1953-1989, 2014-2025)
QAFL Scoreboard: Wilston Grange 1525-1546-10696 v Morningside 1776-1712-12402
Last Time: 2025 R10 – Morningside 17-12-114 d Wilston Grange 15-9-99 at Hickey Park
Within a competition that has experienced so much turmoil and fluctuation over the past few decades (I feel it has become more stable in the past few years, but I’m taking a much broader perspective here), this is the type of clash that we have lost along the way.
Over 100 games between the two clubs, stretching back over decades of competition. 92 centuries scored (34 – 58). 20 games decided by two goals or less (10 – 1 - 9).
Forget about results. The longevity is substantial. The competition must evolve – but traditional clashes like these need to be sustained to provide greater meaning to the season.
I’m a fan!

Palm Beach has the Bye this week.

One for QFA Div 1 this weekend too:

Mayne V Sandgate
Played 148: Mayne 83 - Sandgate 65
(1933-1934, 1948-1990, 2005-2010, 2011-2013, 2025)
Overall Scoreboard: Mayne 1946-1897-13573 V Sandgate 1816-1765-12661

This includes:
  • QAFL level - 134 games: Mayne 79 - Sandgate 55 (1933-1934, 1948-1990, 2011-2013)
  • QFA/AFLSQ level - 14 games: Mayne 4 - Sandgate 10 (2005-2010, 2025)

Big numbers make the posts a little more interesting.

The Matter that’s Stuff

Here are some highly useless scraps of info from Round 3:

This score has occurred twice previously:
1988 EF: Wilston Grange 15-6-96 d Mayne 9-8-62 (Windsor Park)
2007 R7: Mt Gravatt 12-14-96 d Brisbane Lions 8-14-62 (Carrara)
The margin of 34 points has now occurred 102 times.

Redland-Victoria Point 20-9-129 d Mt Gravatt 7-8-50
Played 41: Redland-VP 200 – Mt Gravatt 21 (2000-2013, 2021-2026)
This score has occurred twice previously:
1953 R11: Western Districts 19-15-129 d Wilston Grange 7-8-50 (Emerson Park)
2025 R12: Redland-VP 19-15-129 d Noosa 7-8-50 (Dowling Park)
The margin of 79 points has now occurred 44 times.

Coorparoo 16-10-106 d Sherwood 5-10-40
Played 13: Coorparoo 11 – Sherwood 2 (1983-1987, 2025-2026)
This score has never occurred before in QAFL fixtures.
The margin of 66 points has now occurred 48 times.

Surfers Paradise 12-11-83 d Labrador 8-9-57
Played 25: Surfers Paradise 13 – Labrador 12 (2014-2026)
This score has occurred once previously:
2002 R3: Brisbane Lions 12-11-83 d Morningside 9-3-57

Morningside 18-19-127 d Wilston Grange 8-6-54
Played 126: Morningside 74 – Draw 1 - Wilston Grange 51 (1950, 1953-1989, 2014-2026)
This score has never occurred before in QAFL fixtures.
The margin of 73 points has now occurred 46 times.

Quick look at the updated scoreboard for a couple of clubs:
Clubs named “Coorparoo” have historically been very accurate against Clubs named “Sherwood”. The Roos/Kings’ overall score is 254-172-1696. Almost 60% of scoring shots have been goals.
To give it a little perspective, you definitely want to be running at least 50% (ie, half of all scoring shots are goals). Other good ones from last week include Broadbeach against Aspley (263-207-1785, or almost 55.9%) and Mt Gravatt against Redland (660-524-4484, or 55.7%).
Thirteen games is a small sample size – but Coorparoo at 60% is pretty good.

Also, now that Surfers Paradise has overtaken Labrador in the QAFL Head-To-Head record (13 – 12), they have also passed the Tigers on the scoreboard. The Demons now lead by seven points: 268-256-1864 to 269-243-1857.

QAFL Round 5

Coorparoo V Maroochydore

Played 1: Coorparoo 0 – Maroochydore 1 (2025)
Overall 11: Coorparoo 1 – Maroochydore 10 (1994-1995, 2017-2019, 2025)
QAFL Scoreboard: Coorparoo 6-5-41 V Maroochydore 18-16-124
Last Time: 2025 R12 – Maroochydore 18-16-124 d Coorparoo 6-5-41 at Neil Upton Oval
An infinitesimally small QAFL record.
However, there is some pre-QAFL history. To the Roos/Kings’ detriment, they always seem to meet the “Northern Roos” when they are a powerful unit. Seems like that could be the case again this week. Perhaps they gained a great deal of confidence from last week’s result, and will be ready to face the visitors.

Aspley V Mt Gravatt
Played 16: Aspley 10 – Mt Gravatt 6 (2009-2013, 2022-2025)
Overall 76: Aspley 31 – Mt Gravatt 45 (1975-1993, 2009-2013, 2022-2025)
QAFL Scoreboard: Aspley 273-222-1860 V Mt Gravatt 191-167-1313
Last Time: 2025 R20 – Aspley 21-17-143 d Mt Gravatt 6-9-45 at Dittmer Park
Another good old SQAFA clash! These two clubs met in two SQAFA Grand Finals, 1983 and 1987, for one flag each.
Aspley has won the past seven QAFL games.

Palm Beach Currumbin V Redland-Victoria Point
Played 10: Palm Beach 3 - Redland VP 7 (2021-2025)
QAFL Scoreboard: Palm Beach 109-94-748 V Redland VP 140-103-943
Last Time: 2025 R20 – Palm Beach 17-17-119 d Redland VP 14-4-88 at Salk Oval
This is the full extent of the two clubs’ Senior history.
The Sharks will be aiming to at least reach 1000 points against PBC.

Morningside V Sherwood
Played 47: Morningside 39 - Sherwood 8 (1983-1987, 2001-2004, 2009-2010, 2014-2025)
QAFL Scoreboard: Morningside 813-644-5522 V Sherwood 471-465-3291
Last Time: 2025 R20 – Sherwood 15-10-100 d Morningside 9-8-62 at Esplen Oval
A stop-start battle. All their clashes have been at QAFL-level.
Strangely, this is the third game this Round where the “Last Time They Met” was Round 20 last year. What’s up with that?

Broadbeach V Surfers Paradise
Played 21: Broadbeach 13 - Surfers Paradise 8 (2014-2025)
Overall: Let me know (1971-1996, 2014-2025)
QAFL Scoreboard: Broadbeach 247-231-1713 V Surfers Paradise 214-223-1507
Last Time: 2025 11 – Broadbeach 15-14-104 d Surfers Paradise 6-12-48 at Sir Bruce Small Park
Here is another clash of two bastions of the past GCAFL. Based on a history from 1971 to 1996, we could feasibly be looking at up to 100 clashes of which we know (or I know) nothing about. It seems a shame for now – but perhaps that can be rectified at some point in the future. I mean, retirement has to happen some day.

Wilston Grange V Labrador
Played 21: Wilston Grange 5 – Draw 1 – Labrador 15 (2014-2025)
QAFL Scoreboard: Wilston Grange 209-201-1455 v Labrador 287-289-2011
Last Time: 2025 R14 – Labrador 14-12-96 d Wilston Grange 15-6-96 at Cooke-Murphy Oval
Once again, their full history has been at QAFL-level. I reckon the Tigers are on target to reach their 300th goal against the Gorillas this week. Something to watch out for.

Noosa has the Bye this week.
