A new thread for a new season: 2026.

Really appreciate matt_nicholls providing the fixture draw for 2026 - so I'll try to share it on this thread too (just so it is available from the start of the thread):

Liam Jones back at palmy. Solid spine with him, Hickey and Casboult!

Jones playing for free, I'm told. Won't play a full season but aim is to qualify for finals.

Repaying the faith: Former AFL star Liam Jones returns to the local club that gave him a footy lifeline

Tough season ahead for Mounties, Sherwood, Grange and Coorparoo, Aspley will drop back but have the resources and junior base to bounce back.... other clubs are just too strong and feels like they are getting stronger.

Not sure Aspley junior base is that strong is it?

Would thing Grange and Sherwood significantly stronger and alongside Morningside those 3 would be the strongest junior bases in Brisbane in terms of quality.

I guess you look at the 13, 15 & 17 Div 1 teams. Coorparoo definitely up there. Much stronger U13 D1 last year than Sherwood 120 - 10 win. But each cohort is slightly different so interesting to see where those teams sit in 2026.

They’re pretty good in lower divisions. Not sure if that helps ya qafl team though!

See Grange ruckman Matthew Pearce has signed for Robinvale in the Sunraysia League - joins a couple of ex Mounties teammates. Questions being raised around how some Clubs down that way are offering $80k packages to players.

hey mate do you know a bit about what these 80k packages include

Not sure about 80k packages but we have seven Noosa locals(1 pointers) playing at Mildura Imperials this year. 3 of them fly in from Maroochydore every Friday, get 2 nights accomodation and $1500 cash per game. One flys in from Melbourne each week on same deal and the other three have moved down there and get $700 per game.(At Noosa got $50.00 a game)
I am reading that plenty of quality SANFL players have headed to the Sunraysia League on very healthy packages. The grapes, chop chop and mountain cabbage in high demand it seems

If $1500 a game plus flights and accommodation costs are applied across an entire season including finals than the total would easily be $50k or more per player for the season. That alone is some clubs annual budget in community Footy in SEQ.
