QAFL 2026

Wasn't everyone having them well above the bottom in the season predictions?

would think finishing 9th last year on % with a bit of momentum, and a strong Colts setup and good junior pathways the climb was on - probably not unreasonable?

strange to dish up that loss and lose to Mt Gravatt - are being pretty competitive the prior 2 weeks. Bit of Jekkyll and Hyde stuff going on.

Apart from PBC game, MtG look big improvers, even ignoring the win - not blown off the park by Maroochy.

Interesting comment when Aspley only has 2 QAFL premierships, yet according to AI "The Zillmere Eagles (under their various historical names) have won a total of 18 QAFL premierships, making them one of the most successful clubs in the league's history".
And if not for their proximity to Zillmere, Aspley wouldn't have had their QAFL licence in 2009!

One club built their history and the other had to buy theirs.

And this is the real reason for the constant Aspley bashing from select few on here. Zillmere was run into the ground and Aspley "took" their licence. Aspley prospered while the others around languished.

A lot of chat about the lower end of the ladder on here. I note that Maroochydore sit on top of the ladder, good on them, but not sure they’ve played a true contender yet. I feel both Surfers and Palmy are brooding about missed opportunities in 2025 and will use that sting as the year progresses. Redlands seem “back” with the win over Morningside, who beat Palmy in round 1. Plenty of good teams in the comp.

Correct Big E

It’s always “Big Bad Aspley’s” fault with Zillmere … Sandgate, Kedron, just as many whingers there. Aspley was a community hall at one point. A lot of hard work went in to building it up to where it is is today. Keep on hating losers !!

Thats not even in my top 5 reasons!

Aspley are the Collingwood of the Northside and have been since I was a kid. You either love em or can’t stand em. But that’s the fun of footy isn’t it?

Fair enough, that’s a fair comment re Collingwood comparison. I’m willing to lay down arms Longy no more shite talking from me

That Greg Brain thing annoyed me though. And fair enough if blokes wanna poke fun and laugh at Aspley’s expense, but not sure that sort of carry on is what I’d want from my young blokes colts coach. Greg, wasn’t immune to a bit of carry on in the Farrer League in the 1990s when I was a kid. But he coached a couple of flags there to his credit, he’s a winner and seems to get the very best out of his players

Zillmeres undoing was virtually their own fault. Going into bed with Shaw sports was the start of the end for them. Aspley and Zillmere were in talks about a merger,

Understood,

They play coorparoo again later in the year. Is that their only chance?
I don't know - they are a good footy club Sherwood, battle away in state league footy and develop a hell of a lot of boys and girls for better footy so I'd like to see them do well. Often with lesser resources too. Footy needs a foothold out that way - many kids from the Downs end up there as well.
But that start to the season is not what would have been planned and the weekend result looks very poor - did Coops have some VFL blokes play?

At the risk of being lumbered into the Nth Bris debate despite living 100k away I agree with that comment . And the Noosa footy club wasn't happy either.

Why did the hornets pull out of the VFL?

Albeit small sample size as season was impacted by Covid. But looking at results I would suggest that they come to the conclusion that they didn’t have a squad to compete at the level. Along with the financial commitments, I would think the come to a decision that it was not sustainable. Probably a smart decision in hindsight.
Please enlighten us with your take on it. I’m sure everyone is waiting with bated breath.

I have no idea that’s why I asked. I would have thought they’d be fine financially?

I brought it up as your guy Carn the jets was potting everyone else around 😉

I think Big E is probably mostly right but I remember Perko saying it was also to get back to community based footy as they believed their wasn’t much of a conduit between lower levels/juniors and the big boys and that back in QAFL the club felt more holistic (not saying they roll footys out to the under 8s at training every week) the club as a whole felt more ingrained in the community by playing in the local comp.

well we need the club in the QAFL ....not the VFL....

Just when I thought this was a burner account you say something sensible. The mind boggles!
