Are these guys a bunch of morons? What on earth did they expect? To buy a favorable technical report?

I really cannot figure why Qatar have gone public with this one, they have all but hammered the final nail in their own coffin.

US slamming Qatar's bid, Qatar slamming FIFA - good to see Australia sitting it out on the sidelines and quietly making progress.

Bring on December 2 - let's all hope that it can be Australian sport's greatest achievement.

PS If Qatar win now, I will not watch World Cup 2022. The only bid that I feel we can possibly lose to is the US.

FIFA might be legally liable for letting a bid get so far before pulling the rug from inder it.
And smaller countries should have an avenue to host, perhaps by grouping together.

OK you cant give 3 or 4 teams automatic entry but there could be a pre-competition among the hosts for the spot in the finals.

Makes sense, but can you imagine how...embarassing it would be to win the rights to co-host with another nation or two, only to lose out in the prelim (as you've suggested) and not be able to take part in the tournament proper?

It's like being told byyour parents when you were younger that you can "look, but don't touch".

These countries could have "two bites" of the cherry so to speak - in terms of qualifying. Go through normal World Cup qualifying, and then try their hand against each other - perhaps for the right to host the Final?

Soem countries who might co-host, wouldnt have a team good enough to qualify, or would be embarrased to send it.

I'm talking SE asian countries here - would be a a great place to have the world cup - great places to visit

I seriously doubt any governing body is going to look favourably on a country that is too embarrased to even attempt qualifying.

S.E Asia is a no no for hosting a World Cup, with the temperatures in June/July hovering around the 30-35 degree mark and humidity nearly always more then 80%.

Watching the Asian Cup in 2007 you could tell that the European based players really suffered (Vince Grella lost 10kg in one game apparently).

Plus, SE Asian nations wouldn't be competitive at a WC, with Thailand being the best of a bad bunch.

Same rule applies for India, their national team is a joke and FIFA will simply not allow countries to host a World Cup when their national team will get spanked 10 nil in all 3 group games. On Qatar's side they are at least competitive although they really don't have any hope of beating a decent team, as seen by the 3 wins / 1 draw / 12 goals against and 1 goal for vs us in the latest round of WC qualifiers.

Three or four countries? Wouldn't that be a nightmare for organising and logistics? Who gets the final? Who gets the semis?

Even with two countries, you can have hassles, not to mention overall technical problems with the bid- see Holland and Belgium, struggling to get the big stadia for the semis and final- they have them, but barely.

Just can't see more than two countries as host- and really unlikely to be outside Europe or south america (Yes, I know South Korea and Japan co-hosted, but that was pretty much forced by FIFA)
