over heard that the hornets have potentially lost a few key pieces from their side. Apparently one being Sam platz heading to the red legs. Social connections the rumour. It’s believed more will follow. Big talk of them heading to Friday nights. Any info ?

have also heard similar things from a few ex aspley players. Nathan watts is rumored to make the jump to pine rivers as he has been offered handy match payments that hornets wont match. its all happening wouldn't be surprised to see them fold from the comp last minute

The Div 1 side has played a distant second fiddle to the NEAFL side for a few years now. Would be a crying shame if they were to go to Friday night footy.

Quite a bit of division and in fighting at Aspley over the decision to pursue the VFL, so wouldn't be surprising if the Div 1 team fell ovewr given the VFL team will soon be a QAFL team if some directors get their way. This would be the end of the Div 1 side anyway.

That bloke played reserves? Hardly sounds like the tower is falling

Don’t believe the statement says anything about the individual and lots about the club. Might be a ripping bloke and robbed of opportunities where he was but the departure of a ressies player is hardly a sign of Rome burning.

If what’s been talked about amongst many sources that 1 may be the tip of the iceberg

Bit harsh on the bloke mate.
But quite welcome to the club if that what he wants to do.

Not an indictment on the club at all. Just really isn’t bigfooty worthy announcing the departure of a reserves player who’s apparently a key piece of Aspley. Clearly the guy wrote it himself

What’s everyone’s thoughts on the upcoming season? Who might be the favourites, wooden spooners, improvers on last year? Any big gun recruits clubs may have picked up?

Should be a very interesting year. Favourites is hard to pick, Caloundra coming back in and retaining a lot of their 2019 list puts them up there. Picking up Dzufer definitely helps them even if he is up there in age. Coorparoo have recruited and are always there abouts so must be mentioned. Mayne, last years grand finalists, lost a few good ones back to Aspley VFL but still have a strong list. Pumas always seem to be right there, new coach will be interesting to see. If Aspley stay in Div 1 think it might be a long year for them so they’re my pick for the spoon. Expect Beenleigh to win a few more games this year, performed above expectations in my opinion last year and always seemed to be there in every game. For the first time in a While this comp is wide open with no Maroochydore or Noosa around.

My very early ladder prediction heading into the season.

Caloundra
Springwood
Coorparoo
Mayne
Beenleigh
UQ
Aspley

If the grand final is at yeronga then hard to go past Coorparoo.
Let’s hope the recruits fire

My son plays at Springwood and they have had a pretty intense pre season under the new coach Paul Reyne and had done a lot of match simulation training and by all accounts training and numbers have been consistently high with a first night in November with 45 on the track which was pleasing. No players have left and some of the younger fellas are bigger stronger and fitter than in 2020. Past players that have returned Fris, Hunt and Pringle depending on his hand injury. Gains at this stage are Mid Mitch Stansborough who played with my bloke in Mackay and has recently being playing at Crib Point in Victoria. Also appears that a Ruckman that the Coach obtained from his association at Yeronga is training well and will give us that other tall option that we have sadly lacked. There may be another really good player on the radar from Melbourne who is returning but he is a target for a Clubs but he will make his own decision on his future. Pumas will be there abouts this year and I think a lot fitter overall than they have been. It looks pretty tight as Caloundra and Coorparoo look like they have loaded up so comp looks strong. Disappointing only 7 sides but should be a great year

Grange also sit towards the bottom of QAFL. Step down to Div 1 doesn't guarantee they will set the world alight.
Maroochydore duo in Gadsden and Tomkinson will make a bigger impact IMO. Both played in very good Roos lineups as 18yo's

If they played seniors there the mere competing against the better opposition makes them more then handy pick ups
