Brisbane won the Flag in Season 2024 with Six ACL Injuries. They like Sydney have an Academy giving them Prime Access to Talent akin to Rivers of Gold.

Yep I think it will be good we'll be seeing clubs let their kids go elsewhere if they have a dearth of quality already in that position. I was actually thinking that with addinsal from gc and the Brisbane mid this year I forget his name. Both those guys are too similar to their current young mids. Patterson on the other hand you'd take just about anywhere he has the best side step and speed around and is in fact another example of why the academies work, he was in the gc titans academy and chose the suns instead.

I assume the Lions mid is Daniel Annable firming as a potential top 3 pick. 100% will be a Lion.

Brisbane won the Flag in Season 2024 with Six ACL Injuries. They like Sydney have an Academy giving them Prime Access to Talent akin to Rivers of Gold.

Four ACLs - Coleman, Doodee, Gardiner and McCarthy.

They all happened early. Apart from losing McInerney in the prelim, they were very stable through the back half of the season.

Father Sons help too look at Jaspa Fletcher, Joe Daniher, Will Ashcroft. They were very important to Brisbane winning the Flag in Season 2024 and to top it off They get Levi Ashcroft for Free after winning the Flag.

How many of those were after Ashcroft came back? I know Payne missed a few towards the end when Joyce was playing but I can't remember too many other changes.

Payne - missed 18 to 24 then came back for the EF
McKenna - was 23rd man by the finals so probably not the most important player

Andrews - yep missed one game.

so they had a few injuries but when the whips were cracking they were pretty stable. I am trying to remember, did they have the same 23 for all 4 finals?

Joe Daniher wasn't a Lions father / son, just as Josh Dunkley wasn't.

They also don't get Levi Ashcroft for free. They have to give up a certain amount of draft points and picks to take him. Whether that is adequate cost is another matter, but it certainly isn't free.

Why are Geelong supporters blaming Brisbane's academies for the result today? I remember when Geelong belted Brisbane in the qualifying final and the academies didn't seem to be a problem. Fagan simply outcoached Scott today.

The issue is the academy rort has already paid off and will continue to do so for at least another decade. Ashcroft, Fletcher, Walter, Read, Annable etc are all extremely young still.

Being up in qld they're every chance of just hiding future players to tank their value so they can continue to pick up top line draftees for peanuts.

Regardless, the mix of top 5 academy and F/S for garbage draft picks over a couple year period has created a monster. If a team is already top 8/4 team, why are they getting access to top 5 draft picks without giving up much?

It's the fact Brisbane gave up garbage picks for likes of Ashcroft bros, Fletcher, not sure who else, when they were already a top 4/8 team. They got extremely lucky that these players came along when they were already up the top of the ladder as it has made them even better, when in an open draft they go to other worse teams. You can say hey other teams got the same thing - see Geelong with likes of Ablett Jnr, but the league has changed in the last 20 years, now there's more teams so less talent to go around

lol, the draft is a lucky draw, nobody could’ve told you that those players would be two time premiers in three years. FYI, they had already changed the rules multiple times, and were set to change them again before Swann came across. Talk about a reach.
