1. Before yesterday, when did we play our last drawn game? I could not recall being at a draw since the 1977 GF.

2. There is a lot of discussion about the double goal to Adelaide. IIRC we gave away one of those one Friday night at the 'G during the Carey/Schwass era. Anyone recall the game/incident?

I can answer this...

The Brisbane game in 2003, when Voss kicked a behind on the siren. They were at their peak, I was spewing even more than yesterday that we didn't win that. I think it may have also been due to the fact that it was how footy should be played, and not the tripe that was served up yesterday from the Ugly Ducklings.

I was their that game, we matched it with them for the whole game, and they were undefeated if i recall.

I still have the picture in my mind of David King waving his hand saying no goal or point.

I was dissapointed at that game.

Telstra Dome on a Saturday Night, I think it was Round 3.

We were 2-0 leading up to the game, as were they, it was a cracker of a match, even though we let it slip.

AS stated by Roos4eva, the last draw was against Brisbane. Other draws since 77 GF were:

Rd 17 1988 v Collingwood
Rd 20 1987 v Foostcray (S McPherson kicked a goal after siren)
Rd 11 1985 v Hawthorn (the first time Kennedy coached against Hawthorn)
Rd 22 1980 v St Kilda

Yep, was the Dome on a Saturday night.

And either Drew or Digby (or maybe both) tore it up that night.

Queens Birthday Weekend. There was a story in the Footy Record THAT DAY about "When will the drought of draws end?"

At one point in the first quarter it was 1.1.7 apiece and I said to my Dad "Scores are level - it could be a draw".

He still blames me for that result to this day.

Two things I recall as well.....

Sat next to a bloke who I swear was "Garry Who" from the "Altogether Now" show with Jon English. Big LOUD Hawks supporter!

The bloody umpire costing us the match by calling Peter Jonas to play on in the Southern Stand pocket when he was lining up for goal and barely even LOOKED sideways resulting in a crappy kick under pressure.

Yeah, Digby kicked about five I think and it was the match that turned me into a Drew fan.

I think everyone was all over question 1 - Round 3, 2003 and Saturday night at the Dome 16.13-109 each against Brisbane. April 13 in fact. I remember it well because

a) It was a cracker of a match. Voss kicked 5 before half time and King soccer a goal from about 60m out.

b) I tend to remember a lot of crap like that.

c) I proposed to Mrs.Marstermind later that night!!:thumbsu:

As for Question 2 - I vaguely recall something like that happening but I don't recall anything specific involving North. I do remember it happened against Jarrod Molloy in 1996 for Fitzroy against West Coast at the WACA. The Lions had just merged with Brisbane, couldn't beat an egg and went into the game at the longest odds in history (imagine the odds Melbourne were at against Geelong earlier on this year). They were getting absolutely pumped and Molloy did exactly the same thing as Waite and the Eagles got another goal. It was about then that my heart broke for the Roys - the world was against them. No such feelings when it happens to Carlton though!!

The Hawthorn game in '85 - Queens B'day weekend. I remember it as it was a packed house and I was up in the nose bleed section of the Ponsford stand. North at one stage were 36 points down. Phil K missed a few easy ones (he did a Didak) and I just about fell out of my seat with excitment and yelling in the last qtr. Crocker took a specky. That was the nearest we got to beating those swines til one wonderful Friday night at the "G' '92 or was it '93 by 120+ points. Haaaaa.

The Brisbane game in '03 at the Dome - nearly 20 years older than the Hawks one and played havoc with my stress level. With 5 mins to go in the last I was not yelling in English but don't ask me what I was saying.

The only common theme with yesterday was that it was a draw, a complete contrast of a match. Magnificent match, one of the best of the season.

Kingy kicked at least one awesome goal that night, perhaps two.

Honestly thought we had them, two out of bounds on the full in the dying stages from the same spot.

We roared ourselves silly and most of the North faithful cheered at the final siren thinking we had won, ala Boomer and Rawlings, but after a lifetime that point was awarded.

Brilliant effort so hard to stay disappointed for long and no question the lads earnt the applause when they left the arena that night.

That draw against Brisbane was so frustrating. Brent Harvey's two forward 50 entries went out on the full. I think he went the torp on both of them.

We deserved to win that game. Was a shattering result. But Dean Laidley's press conference after the game was a highlight. Full on pumped the tires of the club and players up to our supporters - doubters - media, can't remember. Just remember him being rediculously happy/passionate.

____ you Voss.

David King kicked a 50 metre soccer goal that carried the distance off the ground. Was just awesome. The other end of the ground he did it from 30 out.

It was Laids first season as coach we won the first 2 then the draw, at the presser he said something like, i'm going home with my wife and getting pissed.

The last 'double goal' I remember seeing was in the 2004 VFL GF. We were aligned with Port Melbourne and a blatant dive from Sandringham full-forward Sautner in a very minor push and shove after a goal resulted in a free kick, double goal and cost Port Melbourne and our boys playing down there a flag as the final margin was under a kick.

Not much info on this game as it wasnt televised,we jumped them and led by 4 or 5 goals at 1/4 time and we were still about 4 goals up at 3/4 time!! I cant remember how the last score occured - maybe someone who does remember can tell....but we had control all day of that one,we only won 7 games that year and Collingwood finished 2nd.

Thanks for bringing that memory back to me Marstermind.

From memory that was the game that Jarrod was so outraged at the decision that he stood aside in the goal square, bowed and gestured to the Eagles player to shoot at goal without anyone on the mark.

As they say every picture tells a story and the picture that night encapsulated just how much the world was against us.

I remember a double goal at Princes Park against Richmond.

Or maybe it was a shot at goal before the ball had even been bounced.
Either way it was against us and clearly wrong.

The North faithful excelled themselves booing that day.

Another close game and we won when the Tiggers missed a shot for goal after the final siren.

Peter Daicos tried a trademark 'banana' from the outer pocket at the Yarra Falls end and it hit the post.

I remember Geelong getting two goals against North without the ball being returned to the centre. Can't remember the year or the players involved, but after Geelong had scored a goal a North player knocked over a Geelong player who may have mouthed off at him and the umpire gave a free right in front. Someone else may remember more details. It's getting late.

There was also a game against Collingwood in the 80s when North got a double goal. McCann and MacDonald were the two goalkickers. As one kicked a goal the other was tripped by a Collingwood player (who was reported) and another kick awarded. These were North's first two goals for the match.

Teams getting "double goals" is rare, but not so rare that it only happens every few years - more like 2 or 3 times a year at least. I thought we were talking about getting a double goal for punch the ball away.

Having said that, the only specific time I recall us getting a double goal was in the first minute of the 1995 Ansett Cup Semi against St.Kilda. Robert Scott certainly got one of the goals and Carey might have got the other. One minute into the game we were two goals ahead!!
