Would reckon that his chances of a contract extension at the end of year are close to zero?

He broke his leg his leg earlier this year in the VFL.

Even if he makes a full recovery before the end of season, he'd probably need injuries to three of White, Grundy, Reid and Witts (heaven forbid  ) to even be considered for senior selection.

After his injury nobody would have begrudged him if he'd just hung up the boots after a long and distinguished career (nearly all of it elsewhere).

And yet he remains involved at the club ... he's turning up to support the lads at both the VFL and the AFL games.

Good on him, this bloke deserves a toast :thumbsu:

Yeah, I think you are overrating his efforts in this regard. As mentioned, him showing up to games would be the bare minimum expectation. Injured players don't just get their weekends off, they still need to show up and support their teammate.

An older player with a LTI on his final year could realistically say "stuff it, I'm over this crap" and start worrying about what he will be doing next year.

I think we can get a little insensitive about how difficult it can be to remain positive in life after one has suffered a serious setback. Bloody tough audience we are!

Lynch was in the forwards huddle at the VFL at 3/4 time. Seems a great team man (his pinky is ridiculous, it severely limits the use of his hand and only thing good for is drinking cup of tea like a snob!)

Good on him, deserves respect for a fine career even though it didn't pan out with us, and no doubt has a lot to teach young forwards/rucks.

It has not turned out well for Lynch here at Collingwood but it has not been through a lack of commitment or trying on his part.He is a bloke who has always put the effort and commitment in whether playing or training and I am sure if you speak to anyone who has played alongside him they will tell you the same.

Really it has been such a disapointing end to his career when he has been so durable and wholehearted his whole career,I am firmly with you on this one Spooner a big thumbs up from me re him.

Lynch is going to be critical to our VFL finals campaign. He along with Karnezis up forward could be a really great combination. There will likely be one of Witts and Grundy up there too when Reid comes back.

In terms of our AFL finals hopes, our VFL team needs to go deep into September.

Yeah, it hasn't worked out well
And he has taken it on the chin and hasn't squealed like another well known ruckman.
I didn't support his recruitment but was he useful until we had other options. It seems that he has confirmed what many people said of him, "he is a good clubman".:thumbsu:

Curious, were there any other injured players present?

(I'm guessing Maxy would have been?)

Thanks for your years of service at the cracker factory, Quinten.

Honestly, he's been a hard worker and a good clubman, but Father Time waits for no-one.

I didn't see anyone except Lynch, who was the only one in the huddle, and Pendles and Freeman in the crowd. I looked pretty hard, I did a few laps so unless others were hiding somewhere inside I think that's all that were there.

Someone else might have seen Maxy but I didn't.

We had to pay money to get Lynch to move to the other side of the country, fairly sure that was the figure reported.

Lynch was absolutely woeful in the AFL, I ain't going to toast him for turning up to his VFL matches on his very nice salary, be it 250k or 350k.

Just my opinion, I will never be a Lynch fan.

Won us a game against Carlton. That is worth $500k at least.

Except for words like their and science:p
But great to hear this about the big fella
Suprisingly the instances of e before i are greater than i before e. And the i before e rule except after c is more often than not wrong.
Thought I would add this bit of information to see what Jmac's response would be.

Add me to the list of those who are glad that Lynch has hung around as a presence for the club and the potential for getting a few VFL games at the end of the season - rather than just retire and take the cash (which I'm pretty sure he would be entitled to).

I am not disappointed by his time here - I think it was about what could've been expected. He was serviceable for most of last year, and had some good games, and entered this season, which was probably always gonna be his last, as added depth on the list. If he was healthy this year, he would've been a chance for a few AFL games - currently, that won't happen - but still useful to have him around.

Well that is his Level is VFL. He would add nothing at AFL Level. We would have to have no Rucks or KPF left for him to get a Game at AFL Level

I like the big Q-Ball. Could definately get a run when Cloke goes back to the magoos. I like that sort of tough as nails type that will play with a broken finger or a broken leg. It's the sort of toughness and facial hair that your modern type player lacks.

Well, he does have a broken leg at the moment and he isn't playing! But I know what you're getting at. :) It's a pity things haven't worked out for him at Collingwood, I'll remember his game last year against Carlton for quite a while, though.

I drove down from Canberra for the long weekend and caught the VFL game on Sat afternoon. I can confirm that Maxy was there (with Maxwell junior in arms) at the 1/4 T huddle, chatting to Bux and offering some encouraging words to some of the lads (notably Kyle Martin, and an anonymous defender whose name escapes me).
By the way, there was a rain storm just before the start of the game that was the heaviest I've ever seen. Ruined the 1st quarter as a spectacle. me and my mates were kept relatively dry under these shelter things that Casey has on the outer wings, but the water was rising fast under foot at the height of the deluge.

Is he auctioning off his glove? :p

In all seriousness I loved watching the Q-Stick play football. He was great during the mid 2000's for the Eagles during their Grand final years and he was instrumental in the 2006 season kicking 65 goals and winning a Premiership. Although it hasn't worked out for him at Collingwood, from what I've heard he's been a great leader off-field towards the younger Collingwood players. Whether he plays another game this year or not, just wanted to wish him well on a career that lasted nearly 13 years and over 200 games. Well done Quinten Lynch. :thumbsu:

Yeah mate it sucked, I was 10 minutes late so inside a cab, but it bucketed down, luckily I was not in the queue. Weird weather with some sunshine too but that's Melbourne.

Ahh you must have been on different side of huddle to me. You have to have your eyes peeled when they are in casual!
