I remember Carlton crawling Marc Murphy to 300 when be was beyond cooked. Was embarrassing.

Tex can still contribute but the focus shouldn't be on 300

Tex is unable to impact the forward line like he used to. Therefor he has kind of been relegated to an up the ground linking player role roaming just beyond the 50. My argument is that this means he really isnt stretching the defence and at 192cm that is short these days for a tall forward, Adelaide alone has multiple running defenders taller than Tex. So its kind of a myth we are stretching the defence as most weeks it doesnt look like it.

We don't have to know. Why waste games on people who won't make it. Better to consolidate the group that will.

Draper will be back. But after that I'm not convinced.
So you’re saying we don’t have to know if we have quality waiting in the 2s ? You are simply assuming with no basis they are no good . That’s absolutely ridiculous

For the record I don't disagree with you. But when Berry came in as rhe the "big body" midfielder, Soligo started playing better. I know a lot of people on this forum are anti Crouch but he averages 8 clearances and seemingly is the only one, other than the oppo, who can read ROBs taps.

Yeah, midfield Coach escapes a lot of obvious criticism around here.
Maybe because we expect so little based on his playing days.
ROB only ever looks for Crouchs voice.
Credit to Crouch.

What?

We don't need to find out whether our young talent can make it.

Doesn't appear to be covering the same ground.

Can anyone at the game confirm.

Reckon you may be on to something.

A number of our high output players have been below their normal level.

Have we been stuck by the dreaded General Soreness?

Do players have soft tissue niggles they are working through?

Are we playing a bunch of players injured?

Are we going through a heavy training phase?

We definitely have form in playing injured players when they either should have been sent off for surgery or given a rest.

I just don't buy that players all have a form slump at the same time.

He's more likely to get to 300 games if we manage him properly by giving him games off... like today as many of us suggested.

Another fail by the selectors.

Was Cumming more likely to break the game open? ANB? That game needed someone to grab it by the scruff of the neck and crack it open with something special. Tex may not have done it this year in your opinion, but at least he has that ability.

Not in his present physical condition he doesn’t. Playing him into the ground isn’t helping him or us.

We don't operate in a vacuum. Every team has these issues.

Perhaps what we are seeing is Nicks running the same group of players into the ground like he did in 2023 and refusing to utilize the depth when needing to so players can get some much needed rest.

Just another reminder that our selectors are completely clueless about managing a squad of players.

After specifically saying at the beginning of the season he was taking a "squad approach". What a lie that was.

Perhaps?

No, definitely!

Nicks is not a very smart man.

How many reminders do we need!!!

I'm pretty sure the coaching staff have a handle of who will make it, who needs more time and who isn't up to it.

The coaches have shown that players who are up to it get games immediately. Max, Rachele, Soligo. They have worked with players that will make it but have issues. Worrell. They have given players that have shown glipses opportunities. Scholl, Berry, (Schoenberg in last chance saloon).

Yes there have been selection issues here and there. But if a player is a lock to make it they have been given opportunities.

"Squad approach" means he has a 22 he wants to select every week and will not deviate from that despite form

The other angle is that Nicks as always panics after a few losses and throws that plan out the window

If Nicks actually did most things he suggested, he would be a better coach.

Actions speaks louder than words!

Lol, you are so naive.

Our coaches have a good handle.

Lol, just Lol.

Maybe. But a core group should not be "run into the ground". Apart from Tex and Laird and 1st and 2nd year players, no one has a valid excuse for being run into the ground. If a solid core of players is "run into the ground" then we might as well just pack it all up and not play football.

Hundreds of football players, play 10 games in a row without being run into the ground. This is seriously not a serious argument.

If there is a genuine injury, thats different. But these players are paid good money to get AFL fit to last the season.

For sure. But what he does is set the players heads that it would be a BIG achievement to beat them because they are SUCH a good side. We can't afford to make ANY mistakes.

So we play conservatively and shit the bed at big moments. Hmmmm.
It hardly conducive to risk taking and playing F1 football which you need to do to beat the top teams

Is it any wonder we keep kicking straight down the line and deep and to the right from a point

Of course it does. If we cease handicapping ourselves at selection we can better absorb individual player errors. Pies had a couple of brain fades going forward and bad kicking for goal, but they select better and are coached better.

We just played against a coaching group that rested 4 senior players for their trip to Freo. Meanwhile our coaching keep wheeling out injured players and spruiking ‘building cohesion’ which is exactly the same as Pyke’s continuity mantra.

The decisions the coaches made during the week mattered a lot.
I agree to an extent, but your most gifted player doing that isn't coaching related. Players who you wouldn't expect to make shocking errors did so.

As well as players you would expect

You are jaded.

You can't seriously argue that players who are potential super stars are not given an opportunity when Michaelhaney, Soligo, Rachele and in the last 2 years Worrell (after his well documented indiscretions) who have been given opportunities but some how there are superstars ready to immediately step up in the SANFL that we are ignoring.

No player should be drafted then if they don't get picked up at 18 years of age.
The "experts" said they wouldn't make it.

No players on a list should make it or even be given a chance to, if they haven't made it in their first year or so.

I can't believe I'm reading some of this.
