69 matching winning streak on clay and still unbeaten.Keeps breaking his own record, what a legend.

He has already proven that he can play very well on other surfaces as well. With federer looking a bit down on form, this is the perfect time for Rafa to close in on the entry system ranking points.

Fed is still defending over 1500 points on clay and basically has no points to gain after French Open. While Rafa, post wimbledon, barely has any points to defend.

Rafa to take over the number 1 ranking by mid 2008.Bookmark it :thumbsu:

VAMOS RAFA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'm a huge fan of Rafa, the guy just brings an energy to the game and never gives in.

Would love to see Federer and Rafa go at it for many more years to come. Can only be a good thing for all tennis lovers.

I like him for who he is and the mental strength he has, I wish some of my favourite players had his strength, energy and fortitude. There's very little chance he'll be No.1 before 2009 though. Federer has to come down a bit or that to happen, but Djokovic might be the person to really screw with the No. 1 ranking and could take it off from Fed in a couple of years.

It's funny that

Rafa may never be number one because of Fed and Fed may never win the French because of Rafa.

I thought Total Power would be all over this one but he has beaten the 3rd best player on clay David Ferrer in Barcelona SF to become #1 in the yearly Race rankings.

Naaa mate, i am more worried about Canas than Ferrer. Rafa got Ferrers number, just look at their head to head.If anyone can challenge rafa on clay its only Canas.I cannot see anyone else doing it.I guess we will find out tonight :thumbsu:

I was wrong, he is god on clay. Can anyone even manage to win a set against him?? this is too one sided. :D ,not that i hate it.;)
Ferrer came closer than anyone else ;)

This might as well be the Clay Court season thread, because it is looking like a carbon copy of last year, apart from the ATP robbing us of 5-set TMS finals.

Actually Rafa was playing like shit in that first set against Ferrer.Had 12 unforced errors in that set.

That Canas match was a lot closer than the score suggest.Canas strategy was to get in and attack Rafa. But he didnt have the tools to volley and gave Rafa a second look at a pass. That led to his downfall.

I just wonder why federer goes into a defensive frame of mind against Rafa? he is not going to beat rafa in a baseline battle on clay, his only chance is to get in.

My question is, can anyone even take him to tiebreak, let alone taking a set from him? basically everyone had a shot at him already, only gonzalez left. I just hope he can take this to the hardcourts as well.He will only be 2100 points behind federer after this tournament. If federer loses early in french ipen, things will get interesting.Fed basically has no points to gain for the rest of the reason and everything to lose. While rafa, post wimbledon basically has NOTHING to defend. Vamos rafa.

TP, you try your best to turn people against Nadal rather than actually make people appreciate his greatness.

A "Federer roast"? Just ridiculous. I'm as much a Rafa fan as I am a Roger one, partcularly in this French Open where I have money on him to win the whole thing so am dearly backing him, and want Federer out ASAP, but the way you make it sound like he's a dead set guarantee to win it is so frustrating, because its not so.

He's rightfully the favourite, and here's hoping he wins his 3rd straight French Open, but your guarantees that he'll be #1 by 2008 are ridculous. I can guarantee he won't be. He's not there yet in his career, and Roger ain't going nowhere. Give Nadal a few years, you defend his young age so often on this board yet you yourself seem to want to rush his rise to the top more than anyone.

And as for pictures... meh, Nadal was always the better player on his preferred surface. In fact he's the best clay-courter since Borg.

As for who is the master, Federer. Wimbledon is where it's at! Perhaps the most prestegious grand slam tourney, you know, the one most players will care about more than the others. The one that holds the most bragging rights perhaps.

It does not matter how many times Nadal wins the French Open, as long as Federer keeps on winning in the other 3 major events (especially in England), then Nadal should be happy enough to stay at #2. No matter how much you sugar coat this win for Nadal, he's got a lot of catching up to do before even matching Federer's record.

You can't compare the two until Nadal wins the other grand slam titles, and as constantly as Federer has. All you have is the French Open.

Who is comparing federer with nadal? Nadal is 20.You expect him to win 10 slams or something? he has 3 and he is IMPROVING on the other other surfaces. Fed is 26 and he has 2 or 3 more years to get whatever he can. Nadal has plenty of time and his only major threat is Djokovic in the future
