''We really want to win a final this year. Top four, if we can keep up what we are doing, that's really a goal for us now, and if we can get in there, we can get in there we really give ourselves a chance to win that final. We have still got a bit of improvement, but we are going OK.''

The Blues are playing better football than a team that has its sights set on winning a single final. If you're in the top four then you ought to be setting your sites on (at minimum) the Grand Final.

I have a firm belief that we're truly not that far behind Geelong and Collingwood. We should have put away Geelong when we played them and we weren't anywhere near full strength and I don't think Collingwood is as good now as what they were then. Don't get me wrong, both are the teams to beat. However, I believe we can.

A single final win? That's the absolute minimum!

Carna Blues!

Yeah, no.

All players hope of making and premiership but no footballer in the league would be thinking about October at the moment.

Our focus is making finals at this stage, then it will be winning the qualifying/elimination final and so on. We got big-headed last year around this time and what happened? We dropped off.

We will make finals and see what happens from there. It's not as though we are going to throw in the towel after we win that one final we're aiming for. Just enjoy the ride - 17 will come.

I think we're best to keep a lid on it and enjoy each week as it comes.

In the mean time, here's my ode to the Blues of 2011, sung to the tune of... you'll work it out...

----------

Hey kids,

Take the field together

One or two Baggers have been known to find the leather

We’re taking down the Pies tonight, so stick around...

They’ll leave nothing out of the field, by the end of the round...

Say Walker and Waitey, have you seen them yet?

Oh, they were hit lace out...

E E E E Eddie & the Betts...

Garlett and Murphy and Yarran too...

And Juddy took it, hear the scream...

Electrified the Blues...

Delivered it to Kruze...

And then he passed it off to Eddie-e-eeeee- ohhhhh

E E E Eddie and the Betts

Eddie!

Eddie!

Eddie & the Betts..

Etc etc...

If we get over Sydney this week I think I'm going to start feeling a bit of 95 about this mob.

We have better depth than Collingwood, Geelong and Hawthorn so if we can start giving rests to the Judds, Murphys etc it'll be wonderful. The aggession and desire is coming with this group and if we get on a roll I think we're going places.

Let's just lay low for a while and let the C'wood toothless keep thinking they're going to peak at round 17 (because of course no other club is planning on peaking close to finals as well).

Go Blues

Next two weeks very key. Swans and Eagles will be genuine tests as they're both travelling well and pushing the Hawks and us for a spot in the top 4.

If we do what we do, apply the pressure, put in the work, we can and will beat both of them here.

As for season aims... yeh, of course, making and winning the Grand Final would be nice! We have to put ourselves in the best position to succeed (top 4) and take it from there. I think our game style is well suited to finals (no reliance on key forwards, excellent contested footy and tackling), and we'll see how it stands up.

Certianly it would be disappointing if we dropped 2 straight finals, or got belted, but I don't THINK that will happen. A prelim (even a loss) would be a great result this year and set us up well for next. We're a chance, though, we really are. There are only two teams clearly better than us and I really like our chances against one of them.

Our premiership window opens this year but it wont just happen either. They have their focus(top 4) and will stick with it. Being mid season with 2 big games coming up, we will have the opportunity to shore up our position in the top 4.
As long as the boys pay due respect to the opposition each week and dont get ahead of themselves, they could go deep in to the finals this year. I believe in this team and think they have what it takes to go all the way but some luck would probably need to come in to it as well. Exciting times ahead.

I prefer not to be rated and keep the lid firmly on at this stage.

One thing is almost certain however. Victoria based supporters will finally get to see a Carlton final for the first time in 10 years, as the chances of us finishing lower than 6th are nigh on impossible and it would take results of perfect storm proportions to see us having to play Sydney, West Coast or Fremantle away in consecutive weeks.
