Flipping through the pages of the RCTMKII looking for long conversations about strange topics, this one was interesting. Page 80-81 delighted us with this discussion regarding underwear and deodorant:
IT'S ALWAYS FUN MEMEING WITH THE LITTLE MASTER!

Storm20, you run that facebook page The Quarterly yeah? Need to update your ladder graphics (which were designed by Gysenn from memory?). Collingwood, Melbourne, North Melbourne and West Coast logos all still the old ones. Technically the Geelong logo isn't the one they would use for "marketing" either.

So guys... Law and Order, or Law and Order SVU?
You know “Law and Order” was the og show. They’ve had:
Law and Order
Law and Order: Special Victims Unit
Law and Order: Criminal Intent
Law and Order: Trial by Jury
Law and Order: UK
Law and Order: True Crimes
Law and Order: Hate Crimes
Chicago Fire
Chicago PD
Chicago Med, and
Chicago Justice; amongst others that fall into the same universe.
So by calling “Special Victims Units”, “Law and Order”, you are referring to a different show.

I thought that for have a sec, then the og L&O hasn’t been around for that long that some of the younger people may not know about it.

Also, we were discussing how to pronounce things, eg SANFL.

Question for the younger lads:

Where does The Simpson's sit in your lives?

For myself, and many others it was an integral part of childhood, to the point where I still drop quotes into conversation and many others do.

But, I remember it in its prime, do you quote newer episodes? Remember the season 10 days? Or is it viewed as a show for old people now?

Very, very highly (see my avatar + two sigs)

My Dad is a big fan of the show, his family too. I've been brought up in a world that revolves around quoting The Simpsons at pretty much every opportunity. I was familiar with the show growing up, I watched it every night at 6pm on 10 from when I was born until 2011 when they were replaced with George Negus.

Later in 2011 (at Christmas) I received the first four seasons on DVD, and ever since then me and my siblings have watched them (plus the next six seasons) over and over again. It's a fantastic show; while I wasn't born until after the golden era, I still feel as though those episodes have played a big role in my childhood and my upbringing, the same way they did for millions of '90s kids

If I had to pick some favourite episodes, I'd have to say:
  • 22 Short Films about Springfield (the whole thing, not just 'Skinner and the Superintendent')
  • Raging Abe Simpsons and his Grumbling Grandson in "The Curse of the Flying Hellfish"
  • Homer the Great
  • Bart on the Road
  • Simpsonscalifragilisticexpiala(Annoyed Grunt)cious
  • Brother From Another Series (I'm also a Frasier fan)
  • Trash of the Titans
  • Selma's Choice (a universal favourite in my family - we can quote it almost word for word)
  • Burns Verkaufen der Kraftwerk
  • Sweet Seymour Skinner's Baadasssss Song

Man I love Simpsons, I'd say it was a major part of my childhood. Used to watch it nightly in my primary school days whenever it was on Channel 11. Might've not been there for the golden days as most of those were just reruns of older episodes. I personally don't regard it as an 'old person' show but I imagine that will change for the next generation. Only just recently found out it was still running and from what I've heard about the newer seasons, I won't even bother looking into it. I moved on to more crude shows like Futurama and Family Guy in grade 6-ish, but The Simpsons in their glory days easily outranks them.

Left me in the dust, that's for sure. My parents are pretty sensitive around crude and raunchy material and any discussion surrounding it (I was never given 'the Birds and the Bees talk' for example) so I'm a long way behind in movies and TV shows (just last weekend I saw 'Ted' for the first time - it was great).

None of this helped from about Year 7 until the end of Year 10 (the Urban Dictionary was a lifesaver). While in television and movies I've tried to mature, musically I've chosen to remain 12 years old
