Half English, half Australian

Grew up in England (Newcastle upon Tyne) but moved around a little before coming to Australia at 13, so my accent is sort of southern in sound as its diluted, but enough beers or some time back in the UK and the Northern thickness comes back

Nice, I'm quarter Dutch. Went and stayed with family I'd never met before in Rotterdam a few years ago and it was epic. Felt just like home. Got first-class seats to the Feyenoord game too. Happy days.

I have an Aussie accent but as soon as I hear a brummie accent I cant help but talk that way. My nan had a very thick Birmingham accent but my mum has an aussie accent so if I slept at my nans house on a school night when I was a kid, I'd rock up to school with a completely different accent without noticing and it would confuse everyone [emoji23]

Mum‘s parents are born in Malta and moved in their early 20s, dad’s dad is Italian and moved here very young, dad’s mum was born in Germany but she is Polish. Both my mum & dad we’re born in Australia. If someone was to task me what my background is I either say Maltese or Italian & Maltese which is to a lot of people‘s surprise since I’m apparently a bogan, but if you know me you’ll know I have the most Italian name out.

I was born in Australia to parents born in Australia, each with one parent born in Australia and one each in the UK (England and Scotland).

Found out around 2013 that I am descended from a First Fleet convict (seven generations ago). I would have never known except a family member did loads of research in retirement. I recommend looking into it if you're curious.

Yeah, we’ve been traced back to the 2nd fleet. Probably seven generations here as well. But ☘️ by descent. Up the rebels and down the queen!

I know there are a couple of Star Wars buffs on here and I've got a couple of questions. Can I start watching The Mandelorian before I watch any of the movies? And what order should I watch the movies; oldest to newest or EP1, EP2 EP3 etc etc?

Watch the OT. Probably don't waste your time with anything else. Especially not the prequels. They're genuinely terrible films.

I guess so, you'll probably miss a couple of easter eggs, but the main story is separate from any of the movies as far as I remember.

It is watchable without the movies. But some elements will make less sense (in that you will miss some nice easter eggs and elements that can easily be missed), though it does not affect the main story of the show. I am currently watching it again with family who are not massive Star Wars fans and they are enjoying it without spotting all the little fun bits.

It is based after Return of the Jedi and before The Force Awakens so could even be added in there to break up watching the movies.

Watching the films you have 3 options:

1) Original Trilogy, Prequel Trilogy, Sequel Trilogy. (i.e. release order, which most older Star Wars fans saw them in)

2) Prequel Trilogy, Original Trilogy, Sequel Trilogy. (i.e. timeline order, generally what younger fans are used to)

3) Episodes 4, 5, 1 (optional), 2, 3, 6, 7, 8, 9. (Machete Order, which tells the story in the most sense without spoiling any major elements) This order also allows you to add Rogue One into the mix and have it open the whole story as a prequel to the 9 movies (Solo is a side story that could also be added in at the beginning, but is best kept as a side story and not watched in the Machete Order).

I would probably suggest watching in Machete Order if you want a consistent story that flows (recently just did this again with the 4K version of the 9 movies). But if you want a setup that keeps the 3 trilogies together, go with release order.

I’ll give you my view on watching the films from a non-buff angle.

So I watched Star Wars more or less for the first time about six months ago. I had seen the original trilogy and episode 1 when I was younger but it wasn’t really my thing and I didn’t really remember much from it, though I did know a few of the well known big twists.

I watched it in release order, but upon reflection I wish I’d watched it in chronological order. I think a few more things would have made sense from a “first time viewer” POV. I reckon there is two main reasons to watch in release order - replicating the experience of those who watched them as they came out; and maintain certain surprises that would otherwise be given away by the prequels. Given the length of time the movies have been out and how well known certain elements are in wider pop culture though, I would say there is a good chance these surprises are already well known.
