Terrible loss of lives and property is very sobering, but also really feel for the defenseless livestock, and animals (both domestic and native) at this time too.

We do have smokejumper units, they are state based but deployed nationally. In NSW they are known as RAFT - remote area firefighting teams. I think I'll requalify this year, tho main qualification is in Sydney in sept and for alot of the last decade that's been our busiest time.

They'd have been dead 10 or 20 seconds into the video. The thing that killed that young fella on the border and may still kill the guy in the burns unit would have been so much worse, and quicker, than that.

Mmmm. Let’s just say it’s not completely as cut and dried as laid out in that column. Basically, a very sad state of affairs. Major lessons for both sides of politics here. I’m a creature of the left and was happy to see the advent of Chavez. However, like everything in life - be careful what you wish for. Once the educated middle class gets completely squeezed, everything else goes to hell in a hand basket. The only beneficiaries end up being the super rich (money in Miami, etc.) and the military (money in Miami and total power). The poor are still abject. A very, very sad story for a nation of lovely people ruled by deeply entrenched corruption.
