That's the basic story but there is some wild stuff around it. I personally dunno. A well known anti CIA congressman (Leo Ryan) was shot there in what do seem bizarre circumstances. That's always been put on the heads of Jones and his people, acting either independently or as a CIA front for whatever they were doing. I've heard, well read everything from the last of the MKUltra experiments to tests on the effectiveness of AIDS as a bioweapon. Not alot of evidence for it.

Once I came across something from Russia. It claimed US special forces were onsite within hours and that they were actually responsible. I think around 20 members of the special forces unit that arrived supposedly committed suicide afterward. Allegedly the Russian stuff - published by a soviet propaganda publishing house - had details (time of departure and arrival onsite and actual points of origin for the SF flights) that matched US official information. I never checked it out tho.

I remember when it happened but was a kid and didn't really understand what was going on. I more remember my parents shock at what happened I think. Then for most of my teenage years thought it was associated with the coolaid acid tests.

There’s audio of that last day. Jones sitting on his throne (clearly off his trolly) talking to his congregation about killing their children first (his own children too), then drink the Kool Aid (which laced with cyanide) and die in an act of revolutionary suicide protesting the conditions of an inhumane world.

Leading up to the mass suicides, Jones would often test his followers to see if they were capable of going through with it. He’d previously told them they were about to drink poison and they all followed him in drinking it, only for Jones to tell them it was a test.


Anyway Ferbs, Casfile did a three part series on Jim Jones and Jonestown, that’s where my knowledge comes from.

But I’m telling you brother, no one tells a story like Cooper at Martyr Made. He hasn’t even got to Jonestown yet and he’s already produced 8 hours and 51 minutes of backstory. Pound for pound he’s as good as Dan Carlin.

And Dennis Rodman. Crazy attracts crazy. Although, to be fair, Trump makes Kim Jong look relatively sane.

I'd like to feel more optimistic about this, but these two guys are very much all about what's in it for them. Trump gets to feel like he's won something by being the first, and Kim gets to feel validated and recognised by the outside world. The real proof will be in the pudding, as they say - can the people behind the scenes who are actually educated and qualified enough to truly negotiate for each country reach an agreement? Will THEY meet for a second (or is this the third? I think it would be the third) round? Hopefully.

It'd be much more of a feel good and symbolically relevant moment if these two guys weren't each unhinged ego maniacs. But whatever. I do like that they're both unpredictable enough to cause the entire world to stop and watch with a certain degree of puzzlement and uncomfortable shifting of feet. They're an antidote to stagnation, a pair of relative wild cards, a stick in the spokes of predictability. Sometimes we need that sort of thing in order to seed change.

Or, Kim is really some kind of genius, and he's been playing Trump all this time.

Think that tiger was just having a bit of fun. Love how he just veers off into the the forest after.

When I was a kid and we were on holidays once, driving the Volkswagon Beetle through the Rockies, we came round a bend and there was a grizzly and 2 cubs running straight down the middle of the highway, going the same direction as us. Dad waited for them to veer to the shoulder a little, then he passed them. Was one of the coolest things I ever saw as a kid. Uncool though was that as we zipped around the next bend there was a couple of cyclists heading in their direction. Still wonder how that one played out.

I don't about lycra, but at least they were wearing helmets!

As for orcas and seals, yeah, you've got to watch out for those transients. We get them in our waters a lot here, and I wouldn't be able to tell them from the resident pods that just eat the salmon. Check out these guys who happened to be in the water at the wrong time. I figure these whales have to be transients to have gone after them like that. This is at Whytecliff Park, about a half hour from where I live.
