The general that was killed was the military head of the Iranian Quds force, which operates to support overseas militias/intelligence and other covert/proxy activities for Iran. He was a very intelligent officer, who was responsible for making the Quds a highly effective and influential forcein the Middle East. The USA would be happy about his demise.

So the US just assassinated him and then admitted it. Can they do that? The USA and Iran are not at war...... just makes it murder doesn't it?

I think the fact the quds force has been classified as a terrorist org will be the justification.

He was an Iranian military official leading and organising militias within another country in Iraq, so it isn’t murder in the more conventional/civil sense. Iran can’t really choose to complain when they have military operatives being killed in another country that they are supposed to be at peace with.

Secretly, the Iranians would be seething.
