Those who live in Melbourne would be aware of a dishevelled bloke who has been hassling kids and stabbed a policeman in Healesville earlier this week.

Well he spent last night sleeping rough 500m from my house.

We had half a dozen cop cars arrive this morning and the chopper overhead for 3-4 hours. We figured they were busting a meth lab or a crop in St Andrews.

Healesville is about 30km from my area, which is a nice peaceful happy place.

This guy is the sort of person who would have recieved appropriate mental care in an institution in the days when those places still existed.

Australia does not have mental health issues nor is there a drug problem, our hospitals meet the ongoing targets set down by the relevant pollies and the gentlemen in question will be placed in the jail system that is not overcrowed and receive all the required assistance that will allow him to function perfectly normal on his release.

I think I hear these statements on a weekly basis in one form or another - i just wonder when it is that they think I will start believing it.

I have a family member who works in the public Hospital system and according to them we have serious issues with mental problems and drugs by our young. The numbers have sky-rocketed in the last 10 yrs and the medical authorities are helpless in providing any genuine assistance, the patients are given prescribed drugs and told to go out in the community...........but of course none of this will get any air-play on commercial news.
