If all the things i listed that went wrong hadn't gone wrong , then we would have finished higher.
The most important ones were.
Roberton out for the year.
Bruce out for most of the year. ( Especially with Riewoldt retired ).
Stevens early retirement.

Yes we these three out , our team had less ability.
Out of season and someone is actually talking sense.

Cardinal George Pell has reportedly been convicted of sexual abuse, including penetrating a minor.

Hell awaits.

Hope he gets a charge that actually sticks, they seem to never actually get any jail time.

Went to see Malala in a Q and A on Tuesday night.
What an impressive courageous tough and single minded young woman.

We need more people like her and **** the Taliban arseholes who so bravely shot a 15 y.o in the head.
They tried to silence her, instead 4000 people come to see her talk in Australia 5 years later, she had been awarded a Nobel Peace prize and more girls are at school.in Pakistan than ever.

Yeah her old man was on ABC news in the morning, he was an inspirational voice too. He set up schools that allowed girls to study because he could see that the system isn't fair there.

He is still shouting his innocence from the Vatican, despite being expelled from the Vatican Council.

This is the man who shared a home, and a career, with Gerald Ridsdale. Ridsdale surely must be Australia's most abhorrent and prolific peadophile priest, with convictions involving over 60 children, boys and girls, as young as 6. Ridsdale has since admitted to the crimes. However, Pell actually went to court to support Ridsdale during his early trials.

Before I knew who Pell was I had a mate who had parents who were high up insiders in the church. He'd have Pell at his house when he was a kid and he used to go nuts about him being a Pedo back in the day. He reckons he never touched him but reckons he would ogle him and his siblings. I don't know if he knew something they covered up but he seriously hated Pell and his own folks over some kind of church stuff. He doesn't let his folks see any of his kids even still.

An ex used to work with Risdale's nephew who was one of the first whistle blowers on the abuse cover ups. The church offered to buy him a house and give him cash to shut him up back in the '90s. If he'd taken the money they might have never been held to account. He was a disgraceful excuse for a human being old Risdale.

All those in the church know who are bent - lock them all up - sick pric/s

I happened to be in Coles tonight when the Chinese army descended on the baby formula. The behaviour of some of these individuals is appalling. Fighting over the product. Trying to steal from each other. The self checkout 10 deep with people scanning the product through quickly so they can hand it to their accomplices and come back through the store entrance to collect some more formula. Changing of outfits so as not to be recognised. Security guards required to keep them under control. The staff getting stressed dealing with the mobs. How this situation is allowed to continue defies logic. These people are motivated by greed. I don't get worked up very often but these scenes made me see red.

Agree its appalling behavior regardless of who it is

ATAR day today.
The system is so broken and so designed to reward mediocrity.

General Maths is essentially a repeat of year 11 maths.
Math Methods is full of difficult stuff. Really difficult stuff. Calculus that the average member of the population wouldn't even understand what the question meant.
Further mathematics is in between the two.

So kids do well in year 11 maths and decide to go for Methods.

In the end they rank the scores in order from ALL the mathematics , and then boost the harder ones. Methods gets a 10% boost.
To me , i'd think that a kid who gets 50% on a methods exam would probably be close to 100% in general mathematics.

So plug it all into the ATAR system and the kids with the higher scores who didn't strive for anything get into University ( who are complaining about the students failing their courses ).
The kids who aimed a bit higher are bundled off to TAFE.

I wish that it could be recognised that the kids who are struggling with Physics and Calculus are not dumber than those who waltz through the easy subjects.
( Also it would help if the public schools had teachers who understood these subjects ).

I will say right up front that I hate VCE it’s a scam in so many ways that it’s a joke, give me the old HSC anyday.

To get to your point though in my opinion scaling is designed to acknowledge the relative difficulty of each subject so really there is no easy subject that you can just daydream your way to a good score in. Kids who score 50% in methods rarely kill it in further maths as their up against all the kids doing both maths and killing it at methods, you might get a raw score of say 38 and have it scaled down drastically.

I have had kids do maths science and all humanities so imo I have a pretty good idea of the work required to succeed in both. I think way too many kids don’t pursue the subjects their good at in favour of so called prerequisite subjects mainly for elite courses at elite universities. In reality if people stopped listening to careers advisors at schools who push this crap and actually read the university course guides they would see that few courses have any prerequisites other than English.

I remember your son wanted to work in computing I think from memory so yeah he needed a maths etc but that’s hardly relevant to a kid who for example wants to do arts/law. You will also see from the course guides that even when there are prerequisites the score required is relatively low, I assume it’s there to keep out kids doing all humanities subjects which is fair enough.

Now here’s the good news it’s just a bump in the road if kids don’t nail their VCE, there is always a backdoor or alternative pathway for those who are prepared to pick themselves up and keep going. Universities allow kids to transfer and upgrade at will once their in the door provided their grades are up to the required level

I hope your son did well but don’t drop the ball if he didn’t get what he wanted, he can still do anything he wants it might just take a bit longer to get there. My mummy’s little darling scored about where expected and hopefully will get into the University he wanted if not the course. I’m fine with that as I think it’s a huge ask for wet behind the ears 18 year olds to say what they want to do for the next 40+ years.

I will finish by saying gee I’m glad my youngest is now finished and I don’t have to worry about bloody secondary school anymore.

Its annoying me how common the alternative pathways are becoming .
The standard system seems to be heading towards, complete year 12 , stuff up your atar, spend year 13 doing an alternative pathway.
We are taking 5% of these kids life from them at this age.

His maths was adjusted by 10%.
If a degree would accept general mathematics ,its pretty likely that a kid good at maths could have got around 90% of a general maths exam correct , but only 50% in methods. It IS that much harder. The 10% does't cut it.

I've read comments from kids in forums online who have done both "further maths" and "methods", during the same study year, getting a higher score from their easier maths. Like i said, the kids who aren't striving for anything do better. My son scored well in some of the easier subjects but was dragged down by his physics and methods.

Yes, you don't need the mathematics methods for Law, but its also incorrect to use the basic maths results to declare them smarter than a kid who was striving to achieve a higher level of education. Its equivalent to to measuring Paddy McCartin's fitness level against the rest of the Saints, then declaring me fitter than him because i outran the rest of the people in my workplace in a time trial.

I totally agree with your first sentence.

It's an utter disgrace. They behave like looters
I was in Coles, Oakleigh but it also happens in Woolworth, Oakleigh and is replicated in many supermarkets

I have heard rumours of people making $80,000 per annum selling the product.
It's not illegal to do this but IMO it fails the sniff test badly

If the shops wanted to prevent it , they could easily drip feed the product onto the shelf one tin at a time , until the buyers got sick of going stupid.
The tricky part is getting it to the legitimate parents.

Great time to be in the baby formula making industry.
Me? I'd have the overtime going ballistic , and getting in any equipment that improves efficiency ( i'd be very careful about expansion plans based on this bullshit though ).
It shouldn't be hard to set up some export that undercuts the frenzied shoppers.
It could be good for PR if they had a online delivery system so that Australian parents could obtain a reasonable rate of supply. This could benefit the producer by cutting out the supermarkets.
( tell the guy who tried to order 10 tins a month to ^%$# off. When the computer tells 50 different people have ordered to the same address tell them to &^%$ off ).

Judiciary has a number of known, allegedly "active" paedophiles on

And all it took was for a young girl to almost be killed by a shit to the head. Yay for the Taliban. Before them, Afghanistan was thriving. They're back in the Stone Age now. Of course America and Russia have also played their part.

The supermarkets, the manufacturers, and the Daigou's are making a fortune out of this situation
It's the new parents I feel sorry for. As if parenthood wasn't stressful enough, now they have to worry about where they will be getting their formula

You ain't whistling Dixie there, Cursing Fijian. Should have been charged with being an accessory after the fact, or at least aiding and abetting Ridsdale. I had the "pleasure" of dealing with this creature in my role as a victim's advocate. Stone cold sociopath. We haven't been told of even a fraction of what he and his cohorts have gotten away with.

A month in the general prison population yard would sort him out. His mates in the international pedophiles' network will no doubt be helping him. No shortage of them on the bench. Notice how few of these campaigners get jail time?

Will never, ever serve prison time. Just watch how appeals and top lawyers get him out of this.

It’s very frustrating but it’s all about reading the course entry requirements, if it reads methods as a prerequisite then methods it is.

Striving for better is really subjective, you clearly rate maths science but that’s not the path for most kids. I think you underestimate how difficult it is to achieve high marks in popular humanities courses and really for kids who don’t need science or higher maths it’s a total waste of their time after year 10 imo.

My eldest did maths science in VCE and art/science at Monash Clayton. I don’t think anyone is saying you’re smarter because you achieved a higher score in a specific subject. All your mark tells you is how you rate against others who completed that subject the scaling just reflects the relative difficulty of achieving that mark.

Yeah I get your concern about the extra time but really it’s a personal choice for each child and their families, some are focused on a specific career and just want to graduate which is fine. Others see it more as a journey and develop and mature at uni as well as testing out their options. My eldest went on to postgrad studies in arts despite excellent marks in science and postgrad opportunities in that field as well, he’s in a good graduate position following the career he chose. My eldest daughter will complete her PhD in the new year and has a fellowship waiting for her all in a field she would never have contemplated during her VCE.

It sounds like your son did well and worked hard that’s something to celebrate, if it takes a bit of work to get where he wants to go that’s a valuable learning experience as well imo.

In China they have poisoned babies through baby formula. I think if you thought our milk was poisoned and had relatives overseas who could source something safer you would find a way too. Not all are doing for profit, it's annoying but if we were a smart country we would find a way to market it directly into China and stop the farce that is people buying retail and sending it back. If they were getting enough to make $80,000 profit it must be a full time job just sourcing it.

These people are professionals Gringo. It does not matter what time of the day the shelves are loaded, they arrive in hordes minutes later.

We just aren't very smart as a country though, which reflects on the piss poor standard of politicians in my opinion. Much easier to flog stuff overseas that we dig out of the ground and/or property.

Yes, from what I've heard third-hand this is a story of classic Aussie incompetence. We know there's a market in China for Aussie baby formula, but the companies can't work out how to access it. No wonder everyone's worried about the property market - our GDP is made up entirely of selling shit to ourselves.
