I read that an estimated one billion animals have died in the fires so far. I have no idea how that figure was arrived at, but the numbers are obviously catastrophic.

Today we made a donation to the UK bushfires appeal, just to show a bit of solidarity with all those suffering. Hopefully the situation improves soon.

This is so disturbing. The amount of people being charged is extraordinary in itself and the number of bushfires caused by accidents and laziness is just as bad.

Those arsonists and firebugs are just truly evil people. They need to implement mandatory 20-30 year jail terms for them.

The whole idea is to create those industries. Be the world leader in producing battery storage. Be the world leader in solar panel production. We have world class manufacturing capabilities we just need to use them.

We used to be a world leader in technological innovation despite being relatively small because we put a relatively large proportion of government funding into the sciences but that all stopped with Abbott and nearly half our scientists just went to other countries like China. No wonder China's been pumping out new tech the last decade...

It's about time we brought science and innovation back to Australia.

It’s crazy to think that one of the most widely used technologies in the world - WiFi, was invented by the CSIRO.
It’s in almost every device now. My light bulbs use WiFi.

Fact is: a lot of fires are lit accidently and on purpose. Even 5 or 10% is bad enough in my books.
