It was a good idea in theory, you pay hotels to stay open instead of having to start field hospitals and quarantine stations which take time and money. Also kept a heap of security staff operating when nightclubs etc were closed. Only, dumb fu**s always ruin it for everyone else. I'd still suggest the numbers coming out of those hotels and protest marches are minimal compared to workplace infections then spreading into families. It's super contagious so one person can give it to about 10 people a day and those 10 can hit another ten and it goes on and on. There were a few clusters in meat packing plants, schools and old peoples homes that got out. Schools also send it around despite them saying it's a non issue.

It will spread around Australia now there is no real lock down. It really only takes a few getting out like they did in Vic and the whole thing turns to sh*t. It will be years before we have it under control. We are trying to balance the whole thing but there won't be a vaccine or an end to it for a long time. We probably have to learn to live with it to some extent.

There has been plenty of tracing.
The Hallam cluster was caused by a security guard from the hotels. Hallam was regarded a hot spot, untill they doorknocked the suburb and test results came it. It seems to be well contained.

Some of the security guards attended the Coburg end of Ramadan party which must have been one hell of a party.
It ended up being responsible for some of the spread in the west as well as the cluster in Packenham ( contained and now cleared up ).

Well the scales have fallen from my eyes and from what i can gather many other Victorians. You pretend to like us to grab out money but in reality in a time of our greatest need you signal to your whole population that ALL of us are tainted.

Victorians will remember this kick in the balls when we are down. Don't cry when we choose to spend our tourist $'s in other areas.

The issue with going on and off 'lockdown' is how often, how long and how many times we plan on doing this.

Assuming the numbers go down over the next 6 weeks. We come off lockdown. A month later there is a spike. This should be expected as people begin to mingle again.

Do we then go back on lockdown? For how long this time?

I honestly think that in 6 weeks time people are going to just throw their hands in the air, say 'fu** it' and do what they like. The attitude will be "Im going shopping, Im getting a coffee, Im seeing my friends etc" and the numbers are going to spike massively.

How the government manages schooling and the viability of small business is super critical. We can't just yo-yo in and out of schools and work every couple of months.

Norman Swan reckons we should have gone this hard first and aim for eradication. His thoughts is that four weeks is double the incubation period, six weeks with extensive testing and contact tracing should be enough to if not totally eradicate it, then kill the community transmission.

I for one wont be. Stuff them. When we were in trouble all they did was turn us into pariah's and turn their backs on us.

Is she the one who decided it was easier to have a wall down the middle of a town , rather than work with the NSW authorities to close the road a bit further down?

She doesn't actually have the power to close the border under the constitution. OK , its debatable if there is reason to think that someone has a virus. But there is no reason to think anyone East of Berwick has the virus any more than your average Queenslander.
So if it actually costs you money to not travel from Sale to Queensland, i suggest legal action.

Think so. Huge tight lockdown, nobody out of Melbourne, 6 weeks of intense pain, kill the effing thing, close the borders to all other states so when they spike we don't get it back.

It's ****ed. I have just invested a heap of money because we were opening back up and now I have a pile of invoices to pay and 6 weeks of quiet to remember how much I owe and how little is coming in. I hate Covid.

Yeah, it's fine I can open but it drops off business a lot. I didn't claim any money from the government and spent savings instead. It's just hard work put back in only to stall again that hurts. I'll survive but just tired and over it.

No one would want to buy it while it's like this. One of the neighbours has just sunk a heap into a cafe thinking they were about to be able to open. They will be hurting more than me. Loan, rent, food, wages all now just sitting there.

No one would want to buy it while it's like this. One of the neighbours has just sunk a heap into a cafe thinking they were about to be able to open. They will be hurting more than me. Loan, rent, food, wages all now just sitting there.

A lot of restaurants and pubs, the ones who had cash reserves or already had plans, used the down time to renovate.
Its all stalled now.
