Adding to the list of things that are absent, or rare and more expensive than in Australia:

- Lamb
- decent cheese, and dairy generally.
- maple freaking syrup!
- bacon! It's really expensive, and it's only the little fatty bit, not the big chunk of meat.

Tell me about it! the Bacon is like half the bacon! The first time I had bacon here I asked the waiter were the rest of the bacon was!

The lamb and the tasteless cheddar cheese are terrible, but its the meal sizes that get me, there ridiculously big! My family in Oz came out for a trip and my dad, who has been the same 84kg his whole life (at 72) gained 5 kg!

Sonny how'd did you end up with the weather?
Hope u didn't flood
Power went out at work in the barossa around 3.45pm
We stayed til 6pm as the weather was that bad they wouldn't let us drive home
House wise ive lucked out, no trees down on the block that I can see, didnt flood but shit loads of water sitting everywhere

I just looked at bom and theres another massive bit coming across the peninsula
Adelaide hills have copped a smashing
Friends at vic harbor had the cfs at their place fixing the septic and helping them with sand bags

Battern down peoples

And all you vic peeps, get ready.

One thing you do realize is what you need when a storm like this hits
We made a list last night be torch light sitting in front of the fire...will be popping out sat before the GF and getting numerous things to aid next time this crapola happens

Sat in the car charging phones at 11pm as it was too dangerous to drive
Will be picking up a few power packs my thinks
Yeah, we went okay. We're in the valley just below Blackwood, near Flinders. We discovered some holes in our roof that we'd never known about, which has actually turned out to be a good thing - we'll get our roof fixed now! (been talking to a builder already today about that!)

We had no power until about 7:30, just as we put the kids to bed. It was kinda a shame on one level when it came back on. The whole thing with candles, torches, gas cooking, all that, had been really quite bonding for us all as a family.

I'm actually thinking that we might have a thing where we don't use the lights for a night, once a month - just a bit of a perspective check. A blackout is actually what a large proportion of the world experiences as "normal". It's good to reflect on that a bit now and then.

There are a few (and I must say, VERY few) things that I miss from my time in Canada, and specifically Vancouver:
  • The Cinnamon Scrolls at "Grounds for Coffee" - holy crap (homerdrool.jpg).
  • 25c Bagels!!!!!
  • Frozen juice in a can (that can be reconstituted in like 2 minutes - awesome).
  • and... nup, I got nothing...

Chris and Bec Judd with 2 more boys. I mean, congratulations to them and all that but ****ing hell... Can we please invest in and IVF clinic and start pumping out little Lennys or something?

And Pollywaffles

There's a mob in the eastern suburbs of melb that make Polly waffles. I mean, they're not an exact match for flavour but a pretty decent effort.

My bro bought us each one for Xmas last year. ....... tight arse!

Bombers website showing highlights of the bombers saints 1965 Grand Final. Funny watching the old footage as the game has changed so much except Darrel Baldock who looks to me like he would have dominated even today. Then again I am not completely sober. And biased being a fellow Tasmanian.

Any word on sonny?
No not a thing from him.

This is crazy though. I'm originally from Melbourne, obviously, so I'm used to crappy weather. But I don't think I've ever seen anything like this here in Adelaide.

Just had a stumpy of Yenda unfiltered lager. Ok, drinkable but not great.
Currently knocking over a Carlton black. What a lovely beer. Don't think I can Go back.
More to come.

I don't get the gay acronym thing.

Here's a quote from a website:

What Does LGBTQIA mean?
Lesbian – A female- identified person who is attracted romantically, physically, or emotionally to another female-identified person.

Gay – A person, mainly a male-identified person, who is attracted romantically, physically, or emotionally to another a person of the same sex.

Bisexual – A person who is attracted romantically, physically, or emotionally to both men and women.

Transgender – A person who is a member of a gender other than that expected based on anatomical sex.

Queer – An umbrella term which embraces a variety of sexual preferences, orientations, and habits of those who do not adhere to the heterosexual and cisgender majority. The term queer includes, but is not exclusive to lesbians, gay men, bisexuals, transpeople, and intersex persons, traditionally, this term is derogatory and hurtful, however, many people who do not adhere to sexual and/or gender norms use it to self-identify in a positive way.

Intersex – Someone who’s physical sex characteristics are not categorized as exclusively male or exclusively female.

Asexual – A person who does not have a sexual orientation. A person that does not experience a sexual attraction but can experience a romantic, emotional, or aesthetic attraction to another person.

Ally – A person who does not identify as LGBTQIA, but supports the rights and safety of those who do.

..........

Seems like a lot of superfluous letters, not the least Q, which seems to mean all the others. Who decides/agrees on this stuff?
