I believe the point FR was making was that players who have made friends from within the SFA have suddenly decided to leave where the were to join their mates side.

Suddenly is a weird way to put it.

The Hawks for example has been across three seasons... not that playing with who you like is a sin. If we only play each other at best twice a season what is the problem with teaming up with people you like?

And I could kind of see the issue if the entire BC was in one club but we're spread across at least six.

More BC propaganda.

They are a small part of the rich tapestry that makes up Frankston Rover.

I expect you've got your MVP votes on your resume.
That’s a fair point. You are well regarded in this league.

I’m unemployed, but it is on my tinder profile

The team I recruited to begin with was made up of largely Essendon and Geelong supporters with the idea being that it didn't matter what had been said on the Bay, we'd all team up in the Sweet FA. We weren't mates and we never PM'ed each other. We just posted random shit on here.

Meanwhile, the BC have spread themselves through 3 or 4 clubs and suck each other off. The nWo and the Hawks recruitment is two examples - both led by Mr No Team Left Behind who's seen just about every team left behind.

So your real problem is we don't want to play with you. Got it :thumbsu:

Welcome to the 21st century, where people can be mates and associate online despite not living in the same town or city.

Hate to tell you but they're not mates.

"So, sweetheart, who your best man for the wedding?"
"His name is Frankston Rover. He's a great bloke. You'll love him."
"Frankston Rover? What sort of name it that?"
"Well that's not his real name. But I chat to him all the time online."
"Well what's his real name?"
"Erm, actually I don't know."

I wasn't tagged in an apology.
I sincerely apologize to you if you feel that you were treated in a manner that was not acceptable.
Like I said, it's a separate issue.
By your posting in this thread, I'm lead to believe otherwise.
And yet we, the Committee, hear nothing.

Plenty of clubs are struggling for active members - so what ideas do you have?
What clubs do you believe are struggling, Frankston Rover? Are the Coney Island Warriors in trouble? What do you think about a merger?

You've asked me plenty of times, Filthy.

And I've never asked you.

Isn't that weird? I think that's weird. :)

I think the only solution is to let everyone in the chat and let them see for themselves that it’s less about deception and running the league and more about pantskyle imagination and Quivorir struggle against everyday life
Its not I that struggles with everyday life. cough BRAB cough

And this garbage argument is spanning across multiple threads, and it's always the same thing being said, nothing new comes of it. Everyone involved is trying to attribute blame to someone else for their enjoyment of the league dropping off, and this negative sentiment extends to PMs as well and I've been involved in a few with people from both sides. The problem with this attitude is that blaming others does not contribute anything towards making the SFA better. All it does is provide an excuse not to do anything to improve the situation and creates a cycle of people blaming others who blame others and expect someone else to fix the place and in the end no one does.

What I think is the real problem of the league at the moment is simply one thing. Whining. There is too much whining going on. People complain about exclusive cliques, shitposting newer posters, antagonism going too far, people being too sensitive and taking it too seriously. If these are truly the reasons the league is no longer enjoyable then we should fold the SFA and give up because we're never fixing these. Hypothetically if we get rid of the Boys Club some new clique will take their place, if we get rid of the shitposting rookies new rookies spammy rookies will come in and shitpost the next season and the same goes for flogs who take things too far, and sooks who take things too seriously. This is not the first season the league has seen these issues, it won't be the last.

If these kinds of issues have existed in previous seasons, why has it gotten so bad now? I theorise that the answer is quite simple here in that people have simply gotten lazy. Previously we've had cliques, shitposting rookies, flogs who go too far, and sooks who take things too seriously. But they were always an afterthought because we were busy focusing our attention on quality match thread banter, interviews, rankings threads, new storylines, news articles, Team of the Week etc. There were a lot more better things to talk about, but a lot of the contributors that make these sorts of things of dropped off this season (me included, didn't help that I let "Qooty Stars React..." fall flat on its face, but hopefully I'll get a couple more done during finals) and instead these perennial negative issues have taken up the spotlight. This is bound to have a draining effect on enjoyment, here's a PM post from a Swamprat player
"In all honesty, this will probably be my last season in the SFA. For me, the SFA has always been about just taking the piss and having a laugh. A place where nothing should be taken seriously and you can just enjoy yourself. But reading through pages of pointless bickering is becoming very tedious and a waste of time tbh."

So what exactly should we do about the current climate of the league? I feel we need to get back to making contributions instead of whining and this will require an attitude shift from the entire league. Opposing factions need to put aside differences and start adding something. At the end of the day we're all here for fun, enjoyment, a bit of escapism perhaps and we'd all be better off if the SFA is happier place. Rodney's light-hearted thread, dogs' nice guys thread, or thought provoking ideas like Juggs' relegation concept are steps in the right direction. A few more suggestions for good thread concepts could include:
  • a mock All-SFA team to create debate over who's worthy of nomination/selection
  • Mobbs Medal and Finals previews (safe bet for any newer posters looking to get into media)
  • core posters rankings thread (recycled idea but been a few seasons since we've had it so should be fresh)
  • a media thread for a compilation of witty, humorous, quality match thread posts to gain greater audience
  • Interview this season's rookies, get their perspective on their first season experiences in the league
In any case, that's the end of this rant for me. If you were looking for a TL;DR my thoughts could be summarised in the next sentence.

The true problem plaguing the SFA is the amount of whining, if we want the league to improve we need to contribute more, complain less and come together instead of staying divided.

Yours faithfully,

Cloud_

Leak PM please or BRAB deserves the desk

Funny that you mention it, been planning to open up the Qhampion Data stuff sometime soon and try finishing the Rounds/Mock ALL-SFA team going, hopefully this will be the kick up the backside needed

Also, it's a bigs topic, nice op.

I tried at the wolves but it was such an ugly place.

**** all y'all that won't come to the Furies.

The considerable majority of Bay posters do play for the Warriors, and the couple that I can think of that don't started there originally before branching out.

There is clearly a shift towards players moving to be with mates, however it's not just isolated towards the BC (Furies + Tigers fans, Warriors + Bay posters, Swamprats + Port/Sydney fans) and it's certainly not as big of a deal as it's made out to be. I can almost guarantee players will move away from their mates just as quickly as they have gravitated towards them. It's the nature of the competition, especially with favoured positions being highly competitive. I don't think external interference is necessary for that reason, and instead the onus should be on the posters complaining to create rivalries and interest in their own way rather than taking the easy way out by simply complaining about it.

You didn't read what I posted did you.

Furies started as a lot of the clubs did back then and cannot be put into the same catergory as what is happening now. Also have you seen how many Furies players venture to other clubs to get away from the Tigers persona?

Thank you.

Honestly? We could do with 3 or 4 more posters. Given the way the league is heading, I'll probably lose 2 or 3 posters in the off season.

We won't be merging, though. Given the history of our clubs in this league there are at least 7 ahead of us.

I wasn't emphasising the Hawks, more like the whole transitional stage of a new player.

It absolutely can be put in the same category, when the recruiting tactics remain the same 20 seasons on it doesn't matter how the club started. Players leave the furies for their own reasons, just as players leave other clubs for their own reasons. I've seen you and Wacky go back to the Furies in recent times after differing amounts of time away, it works both ways

Thank you.

I'll join the Warriors.

Why would you think it was weird?

You insinuated that no one wants to play with me when the reality is every club would love me to play for them.

My focus, however, is to grow the league - no push clubs into mergers.

Funny how the Admin is talking about mergers when the 'league is fine' apparently/ Don't you find that funny? I find it funny.

If I could add myself, I would. Would be better than talking to you.

I thought you out of all people would be able to sense sarcasm. Lol.

Thank you.

I appreciate your honesty and look forward to what we can come up with in the off-season. :)

I'm starting to realise how the Jews must have felt in Germany during the events of WWII.

The persecution of The Boys Club must cease.
Nah mate we found out last night it was the English dogs who supported Communist Stalin that were the problem. Not Hitler. (Honduras playoff thread if you’re wondering wtf I’m on about).

Hitler was just misunderstood :D

This is still no closer to showing me how it's the same as people joining a club due to an off board relationship.
I know none of my Furies team mates off BF.

The Furies have been involved in this forum in one way or another for over 20 seasons, yet we are the only club now that still has ties to it's first season.
We should definitely change that.
