Not sure of how I feel about this .....there is still a place for a smack in the right circumstancees .....but this going to court is ridiculous

I was corporally punished growing up—some of it was way over the line, but that was how it was in some families back in the day.

I raised my son without ever once needing to lay a hand on him—just the thought I might was more than enough to make sure he toed the line.

I do not think a parent needs to use corporal punishment to effectively raise a child.

That said, I know some do.

In the case you posted, she chose to use an object and left a visible bruise. I don’t see any justification for it. But that is my opinion.

I was "caned" a fair bit at my religious Private School .....did it change my behaviour, no it was barbaric, as it wasn't about teaching me anything and it was needless

But with my parents i was also given smacks .......which I have never begrudged, because I deserved them mostly and was a last resort to teach a lsson

So there's a place for a smack ....but not as freely as used in previous generations .....the human spirit will always take advantage of "soft" approach

I don’t see it as “soft”. One can effectively parent without use of smacking, hitting or using objects to smack/hit a child.

Use of force is the lazy means of teaching lessons.

I get we won’t agree on it but that is okay

That's alright, with parenting no-one agrees ......each child is different, each situation different ....and views on these things are always fluid

Ok so i met someone today who two things.

1. Never heard of Dan Akroyd
2. Never heard of the Blues Brothers (not 2000).

I was shocked, Dan i can sort of understand, been a while. But Blues Brothers? Isn't that a classic?

Talked to a bloke at work who is my age (early 40s) who when I mentioned that 'Funhouse' is my favourite album (see avatar photo) he thought I was talking about a f***ing Pink album.

I don't think I can ever talk to him again.

I’m drawing a complete blank. I presume it’s rap.

I would’ve been barracking for England.

Was there any doubt?

Course it’s hard to barrack whilst chained below decks on way to Australian prison term isn’t it?

;)
