As the title suggests. If Daniel Wells was available for trade what kind of a draft pick would your club be willing to part with to secure his services?

Some facts:

- Was pick 2 in the 2002 draft
- Turns 26 before the start of the 2011 season
- 146 games for the Roos over 8 seasons.

4-10 for mine, because when he is fit that is his true rating and the fact that players with his skill set are rare at North and this probably leads to driving his price up a little from a North perspective.

Just last year, St Kilda traded pick 16 for Andrew Lovett.

Wells is two years younger, a better footballer and he doesn't come with any off-field baggage.

Surely it would have to be pick 10 and above.

Maybe if he wasn't massively injury prone.

Hasn't played a full season for four years now, which means that he presents a much more similar risk to a young draftee than a player that would ordinarily traded for a Top 10 pick, which negates the value of trading for an established player - Erasing that risk.

North wouldn't want to trade him for less than a Top 10 pick (though they could be forced to if he doesn't sign and they don't want to lose him to the GC for nought), but I don't see another side trading a Top 10 pick for him.

Wells output is dissapointing and what he should be capable of is much greater than his average output. He is worth the pick 10-20 option but north would only let him go for a top ten pick maybe more

Pick 30+, seriously what has he done to deserve anything more? His highest accolade is playing international rules ffs.

If he wasn't a number 2 draft pick this thread would be locked for being a troll and having so many unrealistic poll answers.

Do a Brady Rawlings and Brent Harvey poll next please! Supposedly they are worth first rounders, hahaha.

where is that most biased club supporters poll btw? are NM still flying out in front?

That would make sense, however Lovett was only worth pick 16 because St.Kilda was in a premiership window.

Wells' value would depend on who wants him, where they are at etc.

West Coast offering pick 4 is well above the odds IMO.

Untradable.

If Wellsy stays fit for a couple of full seasons, he will be a top 10 AFL player.

Still limped a bit this year, but has managed 20 possessions, 4 inside 50s and 1 goal a game.

People have been on that train for years, but in reality he's 25, its his 8th season and he's played almost 150 games. When do the excuses run out? He's a good player, any club would be happy to have him, but he's never gonna be the star he was supposed to be

ha ha.

You idiot.

are u serious? wells has been very overrated for years, is injured every year & is a number 2 pick ffs? get a grip tosser

I dont rate mclean highly either but if u look at there output over the years its pretty much even stevens. neither will be a key player in a premiership but could play a good part in 1, as i said worth a 15-20 pick

It was the 'when fit and firing' part that I think was the questional part of what you said. Wells is a very, very good football when he's fit and when he's all there mentally. That hasn't happened enough, which is why he has had a disappointing career considering his talent.

Safe to say Wells at his best is a better player than McLean at his best imo. That said I think top 10 is a bit of a stretch for Wells, but he'd be a gun no doubt if he stayed fit.

In form when he's fit he'd be about 8-12. A few Western Bulldogs and Collingwood supporters in this thread seem to have short memories. But whoever said pick 15 was probably about right. I think if the 2002 draft was a little less light on he would've gone later. Now that North are starting to develop a midfield that is capable of giving a forward line a rough chance of kicking a winning score we may see some consistent football given he won't be the firm focus for a change.

Your kidding. He may be a good player who does freakish things but certainly not a top ten player:

Brown, Riewoldt, Cooney, Judd, Ablett, Franklin, Hodge, Pavlich, Goodes, Murphy, Deledio, Scarlett, Lake, Bartel, Selwood, Boyd, Goddard, Pendlebury, Swan just to name a few who are a level above Wells and we could plenty more.

Would give up a pick between 10-20 but it would be a risk considering his injuries and attitude. Plus he is 26...

At the moment he is really just a poor mans Leon Davis or Cyril Rioli however he has the ability to get to there level..
