So trade week is over and how do you think we went? For starters Adelaide did win on the Jacobs trade, it was a 60/40 trade to Adelaide and fair enough too.

Did we win on the other trades? Or are you disappointed with the way our trade week panned out? I for one think we did quite well out of it, we did ambush the Cats and caught them napping.

I think we won the Grigg trade only because Collins is a better kick than Grigg and has a touch more composure than Grigg.

So are we happy with trade week?

Don't think there are going to be any more trades at Carlton, Walker is staying so that's a good thing as well.

I'd give us B+/A-

Grigg for Collins was a bit of a surprise. Most probably thought we wouldn't get a fair deal from this, but we managed to get a promising young player in Andy Collins.

We were never going to get Pick 14 or Daniel Talia off of Adelaide. Pick 33 is a decent outcome for us.

Pick 36 + Pick 53 for Jeremy Laidler + Pick 41. This... this is the trade. Laidler feels a real need and we don't lose much out of it.

Happy in the end that Walker didn't get traded. We never would have received decent compensation for him. Hope he has a big 2011 :thumbsu:

I think we broke even, Jacobs was a win to the Crows but not that big a win, both clubs will be happy with the Jacobs trade.

Average
Good thing is kept Walks and the players we brought in are kids who have had a few yrs under their belt so are ready to start stepping up

Well 2 or 3 or even 5 players chose to "walk out." So from the get go we were always on the back foot.

Happy to get two young guys in Collins and Laidler and another decent 2nd round pick. Grigg can fall in a hole for all I care and Jacobs was clearly never in our future plans be that right or wrong.

I guess we did all we could? The big fish rumours were just that I guess; rumours. Trade week sucks the big one.

Grigg trade - slight loss.
Jacobs trade - loss.
Laidler - Win.
Walker - Win (better than anything we would have got).

Overall mark: 6/10.

Laidler = Good
Collins = i would've taken a dim sim in the end, glad grigg is gone...Collins doesn't sound like the type we need though
Jacobs = Bad.we were r*ped, crows fans can winge all they want how he isn't worth much to carlton etc and his out of contract....truth is the crows are the buyer and they needed him bad enough to offer him a big $$$ contract, Richmond saying they would take him in the psd if he were there. yet get him for pick 33?????? give us a spell.

Overall 5/10

i don't count Walker staying, shouldn't come to that with him anyway.

Big fish...............god i hate the media.:thumbsd:

grigg: happy with collins

jacobs: not happy but could've been worse

laidler: very happy, hopefully this will free gibbs up

walker: very happy he's stayed would'nt have got what he's worth

i wish we had've traded o'hailpin and thornton but i guess its good to know they're there as back up.

i rate our week 7/10

I think in the end it evens itself out. Picked up some good young kids, got rid of a fricken sook, and helped Sauce find a new club.

Not sure about Walker though, do we want someone at the club who clearly wanted out??
Mmmmm not sure at all.

I think Walker is a plus for us, I just think we need to start playing him in the middle and up forward, we can rotate him with Simmo and you will find he will be much happier. He has been stuffed around too much, and not being able to settle into a position has not helped.

I hope the MC see his value as a wingman/forward with time in the middle as well, he adds to our speed over the ground as well, so I for one am very happy he is still with us.

I'm disappointed we didn't trade Thornton.

Should have given him opportunities elsewhere, as we clearly have no intentions of playing him.

I'm sure some clubs would have been interested for a late pick - perhaps his salary is too high.

If you look at each trade in isolation, bearing in mind best and worst possible outcomes etc I think we did ok, no great coups not rapes either, we did ok

Grigg was a walkout and we could have got nothing, so the swap could be ok, he may be a good get and able to rotate through the middle as well as hff. Remember reduced bench means less off field rotations through the middle and more on field rotations so the more players we have capable of bursts in the middle the better. Grigg was developing nicely as a mid but was never likely to be a goal kicking forward despite his height so this trade is a break even.

Jacobs was a compassionate trade and Adelaide did a similar trade for one of their rucks in Griffith, both were rookie elevations and Adelaide got a 60's pick for a 4 year on list ruck that has 40 games experience. We got a 30's pick for a similar player albeit we might think he had more upside, nevertheless, he was also a rookie with only a dozen senior games and was never elevated to our senior list. So whilst we might have "wished" for a 14 or a development player and pick it was never going to happen so to get a 30's pick and a 60's pick is probably over the odds so even though some are disappointed because Sauce was developing nicely we did ok in this trade, the truth may be that he was never a 14 but maybe a 25 but Adelaide didnt have so 33 and 67 is an ok trade for what is a compassionate trade and all credit to us for not being a spoiler.

Laidler is a nice surprise and tips the week slightly in our favor. Dont know much about him other than what has been written since his name came up yesterday but by all accounts he is hard at it and wants to play for us and is keen so for what we paid it is good get and is part of what we needed to get right.

Tex stays, we always had the upper hand in this, (unlike Sauce and Grigg) and we would have needed a decent offer and did not get it. Fair enough, he is a good player and 3 things could happen, he has a crap year next year and leaves anyway via PSD, or has a great year and requests a trade and we get something decent or as is most likely he has a good year and signs on for another contract. Thornton has a year to run, unlikely he will make much impact next year and Irish stays too.

Yes we are still a KPD down but they were not on offer so we have to work with what was on offer and what we have and what we are targeting with the draft. We have 18 and 33 so we have some scope.

So all in all I think we did ok, nothing extraordinary so I think perhaps 6/10.

I'd say we definitely broke even. Didn't win, didn't lose, but definitely got some talent in return. Will likely only use 3 draft picks, and we managed to upgrade the second and third ones.

On the surface it doesn't look like we did too well, but could prove to be a few astute moves. Grigg was going nowhere with us (and maybe Richmond), and we did the right thing by sauce to get him to pastures new.

I'm disappointed we didn't trade Thornton.

Should have given him opportunities elsewhere, as we clearly have no intentions of playing him.

I'm sure some clubs would have been interested for a late pick - perhaps his salary is too high.

An appropriate deal could not be done, too bad. Perhaps they can reach agreement on releasing him from his contract, or as Ratts suggested in a presser today, he will be "re-trained" over summer for other roles. Suggest if he cant get a game with us next year, he was unlikely to get much of a go anywhere else and unlikely to get the chance to "retrain for another role at another club. Not sure what "retrain" means, it sounds a bit Orwellian but you never know.

The players we traded out didn't want to be at Carlton. Grigg pretty poor attitude re trading, walking out etc.

The players we got were happy at their clubs, their clubs wanted them, their supporters were mostly disappointed, they are 2 really hard-working people of good character. And we have an extra draft pick. I call that a win.
