The rest, not even worth going there.

We really need to get a greater number in the A - B+ groups.

Didn't include Iceberg and Freeman as they're still unknowns

I agree with your A+ list Pies12 but the rest not so much. Ball and Grundy are not A graders, especially Reg who has played less than ten games. Williams and Adams are not better than Sidebottom, Lumumba and Toovey, not nearly at this stage.

To be honest I think the problem with our list is we have an incredible top end with four elite players but then it drops off with only one more player having a genuine claim to being an A grader (Reid). We need some players to step up to be in that middle to top tier. If that happens with three or four players we will have a genuine premiership chance.

I think we're really hard to predict this year. The top tier is fantastic the next couple of tiers are a bit light on, but there are a fair few guys who could easily step up.

Great top end. Swan, Pendlebury, Cloke, Beams

Not enough on the next teir - Reid, Sidebottom

Not enough solid senior players - Toovey, Ball, Brown,

One inconsistent guy whose best is very good: OBrien,

A few youngsters who look ready to rise: Elliott, Williams, Grundy, Adams

A heap of guys who have been on lists for a while and could go either way: Thomas, Keeffe, Karnesis, Dwyer, Macaffer, White, Armstrong, Fasolo, Blair, Young, Seedsman, Goldsack, Sinclair

A few older guys for whom the end looks near: Maxwell, Hudson, Lynch

A lot of talented youngsters, some with a few games under their belts

The good.
Swan
Pendebury
Beams
Reid
Sidebottom

Then we have some nice future propects.
Grundy Sharenberg Broomhead Kennedy etc. I don't expect much out of them in 2014, more future. Maybe Grundy the exception.

I'd expect Adams to eventually push in to that group with our best player in Swan to drop out in the next two years.

Then it drops right off. Players mentioned here would be in and out of teams like Hawthorn and Fremantle. (the benchmark.)

Harry
Young
Brown
Goldsack
Elliott
Toovey
Dwyer
Keeffe
Ball
Williams
Thomas
Blair
Seedsman
White

Then we the players that will be locks to be delisted over the next few season. Don't see much contribution from this group in 2014. (VFL magpies bound)

Sinclair
Maxwell
Lynch
Clarke
Yagmoor
Hudson
Witts
Gault
Armstrong
Karnezis

So to sum up.
14 average players named that will play seniors most of the year.
1 elite that will drop away, hopefully not in 2014.
10 players that I expect will be lagging all year which 8-9 of those will be delisted come 2015. Witts may be the survivor but needs to show more in the seniors this year.

I'd say that Maxwell now also fits into the 'One inconsistent guy whose best is very good' category. Which is WHY his end is nigh. Still played a few ripper games in 2013, and hopefully he can finish off 2014 with a few strong performances, so he can retire with his head held high.

I'd also say that Keeffe is another young player who looks ready to rise. He's been nothing but promising since his debut, and improved massively over the course of the year after he returned from his knee reco, and will only continue to improve in 2014.

I agree with both of those.

I am essentially marking halfway between how they have played this season, but also what they can still achieve in their careers.

Ratings are also relative to each players designated position, i.e. Nathan Brown has the potential to be an A grade back, not midfielder.

Injuries only affect the amount of exposure I've had to each player, I try to judge them on what I have seen, read or been told etc... Not how many good games they played this year.

If a player doesn't have a potential rating it is because they are as high as I see them getting from here on out.

Seniors: (Minus the first year recruits as I have only seen highlights).
Fasolo: B, with B+ to A potential.
Dwyer: B,
Macaffer: C+ to B, with a B+ potential
Grundy: C+ to B, with an A+ potential
Maxwell: C,
Goldsack: C+, with a B potential
Kennedy: C+, with an A potential
Lumumba: B, with an A potential
Clarke: D, with a C+ maybe B potential
Pendlebury: A+,
Blair: B, with a B+ potential
Ball: B+, with an A potential
Adams: B, with an A+ potential
Young: C, with a B potential
Witts: C, with an A potential (we'll be waiting a while though)
Brown: B-B+, with an A potential
Beams: B+, with an A+ potential
White: B, with an A potential (doubtful he'll get that high though)
Elliott: B with an B+ potential
Reid: B+ to A, with an A+ potential

Karnesiz A+ potential. Give me a spell. Everyone has A+ potential in dream world. Highly over rated the list.

If every player reaches their potential we will win the next 5 flags.

This kind of highlights how far a list drops away after our star 6 or 7 players in; Pendlebury, Cloke, Swan, Beams, Reid, Sidebottom and Bally.

In saying that i have real confidence that Scharenberg, Grundy, Freeman and Kennedy can all push into the A category in the next few years.

And these lists are more to do with past achievements, whereas this young list is all about the future.

2014- We shall rise again.

I didn't say he would get there but I believe his skill set is good enough. Attitude will be the problem with him.

I am not saying every player will reach their potential. It is more an indication of if everything went right for them. This will of course not happen for probably at least 60 percent of the players due to various issues.

Can't agree. Don't think he has attitude problems at all. Seems like a nice guy. No way is he going to be an A+ player, he wasn't recruited for that, you've highly over rated him.

I think what you mean is you have never met him and wouldn't know him from a bar of soap and therefore wouldn't have a single clue as to his mental processes pertaining to football or indeed anything else.. other than that you seem all over it o_O

I'd like to know how his attitude problems have held him back from being a star.

I rated him as a C+ player with good potential, I hardly think that constitutes overrating him.

From what I have seen and heard he has a good high end skill set and uses the ball well, he is also still young so he has time to improve. He puts up good numbers in the NEAFL, which admittedly is a lesser comp, but he can only play against who he is playing against.

Some scouts, coaches etc... have mentioned he needs to work on his defensive game (this is what I meant about attitude, I didn't mean he was an A-hole, I meant he might be lazy when it comes to putting in the hard yards).

A+ means he will be a star of the game. No way will we ever talk about
Karnezis in the same breathe as Pendlebury Fyfe or Mitchell someone of that quality.

Toovey has gone up alot in value since his knee

Yes we have missed him but he has his flaws aswell

He has flaws, sure, and Sr36's description as a 'solid senior player' seems about right, although I would rate him a tad higher than that because he can cover so many different sizes and speeds, which is very valuable.

If Toovey loses an even an inch of pace from that knee injury I think we will see a rapid decline, much like Didak and Maxwell the past 2 years. Unfortunately Alans biggest asset was his pace.

Wouldn't think it would be the pace from that kind of injury - perhaps the agility, if anything, so he might need half a season or so to regain his former effectiveness. He'll have only just turned 27 at the start of the season, so he should still have two or three more years.

Here is my 2 cents worth. Not based on any scientific evidence, but on my own opinion and observations.
Based on 2013 form, (+) will improve this season again, (-) will drop off, and (=) stay the same.
