Ratts Rates Morton

Hi all,

mate sent me a message this morning that Ratts said on SEN that

• that the Blues need a Ruck
• his top 3 are Kreuzer, Morton and Cotchin
• Ratts said Morton is probably the best player in the draft

that is some food for thought!!!

With all due respect, most of the people who have seen a significant amount of the kids play have all three pretty rated pretty closely. I have heard good whispers of two clubs having Morton ranked #1 and 1 club with Cotchin ranked #1.....I know HBF, TGR and I all have Kreuzer and Cotchin pretty close together.

To say Kreuzer is a standout #1 is utter rubbish.

id love to spoil the richmond party again & take morton. Either way, which ever one of the 3 we take ill be happy. Id prefer Cotchin or Morton before Kreuzer though... Thats my opinion

Absolutely.
There is very very little between Moton, Cotchin and Kreuzer, and the difficult thing that Carlton and Richmond will have to decide is which one will add more value to their list, as I find it almost impossible to split them talent wise.

It's what i've read and keep hearing. Suppose it depends on your agenda.

To me, when you have 2 picks in the top 3 with one of those picks you take the best available, unless it's and area you're remarkably strong, and with the other pick you go for need. We have the best available with pick 3, Judd, and now we go for a tall given we've just lost 2 of them. And given he seems the standout as well, then Kreuzer it is.

Don't think we'd be spoiling much for them by taking Morton. They'd be absolutely stoked to see Kreuzer slip.

Here's the way I see it Grover......Ratts comes out a few months ago and says a Ruckman like Lunnieberger (sic) and tall midfielders are our priority. In trade week we pick up Judd and Hadley (two tall mids).

We have picks #1 and #36 now.......from what I have seen this year forget taking a ruck with #36.....Kreuzer and McEvoy are the only two ruckmen I really rate and Kreuzer is the only ruckman with the potential to be as good as Lunnieberger.....so I think therein lies your answer.......

Ratts has his wish-list, WH and SR rate the kids and come back with a recommendation.

Is Kreuzer the best player in the draft?? Well I think a lot of astute watchers and recruiters say yes, so you take him with #1 on need and ability.

I have Cothcin slightly in front to be the better long term AFL player, but as others have said we have addressed our midfield with Gibbs, Murphy, Judd and Hadley (and the return of Stevo)........a ruck combination of Kreuzer/Hampson will be one of the best in the league in years to come IMO.





(I would still back in Aisake and Hampson and take Cotchin and play him off a HFF , but I do concede I am going out on a limb there and going against popular opinion)

And no Jim, that's not called an agenda, that's called an informed opinion based on attending TAC games almost every week of the year, U18 trial games, U18 champs and even a PEGS game).

My attitude is we have a really strong midfield... but what a lot of clubs are lacking are quality talls..

if we get Kreuzer looking towards the future we'll have some good ruckmen of which not all can play seniors at the same time... this to me is TRADE BAIT...

When we're hitting the premiership window in 3-4 years and we're in need of a particular kind of player this investment now in our talls and rucks may end up being of good value in the trade department.

What agenda would that be?
I've been too many TAC Cup games in 2007, and talk around the traps is that not every club has Kreuzer at #1. Do not believe everything that you read in the papers, as most of the journo's haven't even seen them play, or at the very most, seen the kids once or twice.

i personally dont want him as i think our rucking stocks are young but plenty but will take the time to develop over the next 2 or so years...
its a tough decision for the blues, i just hope who ever they get plays well and fits in well

I'm of the same opinion MOC. Getting Kreuzer really does assist us with list balance and structure. Furthermore, gun mids are available in every draft, yet guys like Kreuzer (and Morton for the matter) don't come around every year.

Hansen, Thorp, Leuenberger, Naitanui, Cornelius.....I think this is bit of a recruting fallacy

As far as list structure and balance, I don't think the ruck division wins premierships, an a-grade midfield does and you can never have too many.....esp if you'd seen what Cotchin can also do across HF......

Also looking to the future, our ruck stocks are quite young, Stevo and Scotland won't be around forever. Not saying we don't need Kreuzer, but I wouldn't use that as a reason to categorically rule out Cotchin.

the berger is a totally different type of player, with a total different set of skills

Just out of interest why would you believe a journalist who is following the group-think mentality and probably doesn't have the time to even go and watch the kids over some of the posters on here who have seen them play quite a bit?? What is an independent draft review??

Miles and miles better?

Kreuzer's ruck work might not be as good as Leuenberger's as some of the draft watchers have said on the draft board. But his endurance is elite and better than most midfielders as well as Leuenbergers.

Kreuzer ran 14.3 and was top ten in the time trial over 3 kilometres.

He might run off Leuenberger after the centre bounce or throw in.

Will Leuenberger be as quick and as mobile when he puts on the necessary bulk to compete with the likes of Cox and Sandilands?

Leuenberger is built like a stick, yet he didn't do as well as Kreuzer in the time trial and the beep test.

Kreuzer is already built when both players were top age at the draft and has elite endurance.

Miles and miles better is over the top.
