They may want to get some match practise into Matt Maguire before a Senior game. I would have J. Blake at CHB, Heyne or Lynch taking his place on the bench. Also Eddy before Geary I would think. And Sam Gilbert before Gwilt?

Looks like a good team for round 1. However, i'd swap X.Clarke for Clinton Jones and i'd try and put Leigh Fisher in somewhere. I think Fisher still has some value in the team.

Dude, there's a reason the world moved to CDs, and have now moved to MP3s - because BROKEN RECORDS are just ANNOYING.

I'm still holding onto hope both teams will pull a mass 180 and play a 40 goal shoot out.
But yeah agree with you i would've preffered to start the season on a positive note.

I'm pretty bad at these but i'll have a stab.

B: Baker Hudghton Blake
HB: Ray S.Fisher Gilbert
C: Gram Hayes Montagna
HF: R.Clarke Riewoldt Goddard
F: Schenider Kosi Milne
R: King Ball DalSanto
I: Maguire Armitage Jones Gardiner/Gwilt/Begley

Hopefully Schneider proves the doubters wrong (apparantly came back to training a bit fat and unfit) and kicks a bag against his old mob. :thumbsu:

Its not like both sides cant do that (dispite what most bigfooty posters believe) but for some reason St Kilda always bring out the worst in the Swans (game plan wise) and the Swans bring out the worst in St Kilda (game plan wise).

The Swans and Saints both have teams which can play free flowing and attacking football so i only hope Roos and Lyon realise this.

Virtually impossible to pick the starting team.
The selectors will have the advantage of the NAB cup behind them and by then we will know better where we stand with:
Baker, Maguire , X, Steven,McQualter, Jones,Eddy, Dempster?, McEvoy, Armitage, Geary, Ray, Lynch and the Irish guy from Brissie, and maybe even Zac. Will be very interesting to see how they go, or what their form is like. Sometimes you see big changes over a pre-season ( Jones improved immensly over the break last year ).
The young guys in the first team will be those who perform best. Is it possible that some of X,Maguire , Baker will lose their spot?

i dont know why, SS, but ive got a gut feeling that Bakes may struggle. The game continues to get quicker...he may have lost a yard or 2? we'll see in the nab cup.

Maybe , but I am not over the moon about others playing that role, McQualter, Fish. ( Birss is gone ). Jones playing as a tagger could be pretty effective?
That may be where we are heading. He was used in that sort of role against Leon Davis in the final against Collingwood I remember.

Given his tackling and running are his strengths ("Here, Buddy, Buddy, Buddy..."), and his disposal is his weakness (although they're MUCH better than they used to be, they're still a weakness), having Jones as a tagger might not be such a bad idea.

Michael O'Loughlin in doubt for Swans opener

SYDNEY'S all-time leading AFL games record holder Michael O'Loughlin is battling to be fit in time for the start of the new season.

While the majority of those operated on were scheduled to resume running either this week or next, O'Loughlin is still several weeks away from resuming full training.

One less forward hopefully to worry about. :)
Obviously don't have an immense knowledge of the Swannies playing socks,
But who else other than Barry do they have? Talking Kp here.
Highly doubt Lewis Johnston will get a game that early on.

Used to mostly wear plain red but in recent years the red and white hoops seem to have been favoured.;)

You're right about Johnston. Be surprising if he gets a game all year, unless we have major injury problems.

In terms of our playing stocks, we don't have an abundance of classy, proven tall options. Playfair can provide a strong target but just don't ask him to kick for goal! Otherwise it will come down to which of the younger players stands up during the NAB Cup. Grundy, White, Barlow could all fill in down there. Alternatively, someone like O'Keefe could play deeper than normal, Richards can swing forward, or we have several youngsters who can play as strong marking small/medium forwards, like Vezspremi or Laidlaw.

Don't write off O'Loughlin coming up in time for the start of the season, though. He's survived for many years with barely any pre-season training and it never seems to take him too long to get into the swing of things.

I really don't care which players are selected. If they are fit, allowed to play some attacking football and are 101% committed to the club, team and game plan.
Having said that the selectors should look back a few years and try what Sheeds did with the young bombers. He appeared to rotate the up-and-comers giving one a chance each game and found quite a few footballers along the way. No point leaving the kids to wallow in the magoos. They need exposure.

Haha touche.
At first i had no idea what you were on about, then i didn't understand why you bolded the t. Now i'm on the same page. :p

I think people tend to underrate the swannies forward line. Even me.
Hall, MickyO, OKeefe & Vespremi with the option of Goodes going forward, that is a hell of a lot of quality to keep a hold of.
Hopefully for our sake, MickyO misses the opening round and Barry has a bad night.

Oh and it's a free flowing game. :)

I wonder if Max can get Barry swinging. He seems to enjoy it when he gets them to screw up like that. It would be pretty funny if did it in round one.:):)

Why do people continually put Goddard at HFF in their teams when whenever his played their when Ross Lyon is desperate his struggled?

Does his best work through the midfield and up back.

I dunno though Roughy. I'd really like to see Beeg in the forward line. It's the big booming kick that gets me drooling. That and I like the idea of him being a forward who floats into the midfield, like Roo sometimes does.

Mind you, it would also be great to have a midfielder who could kick thumping goals, and drifts occasionally into the forward line (and this has been a major flaw with our mids, as we all know - the only real flaw in Banger's game...), so Beeg being there is good too.
