RD 10: West Coast v Carlton - Prematch discussion & changes

reading a little into the press conference yesterday Ratts eluded to Fisher and Irish to get the call up... and you would expect Scotland to return after the concussion and possibly Grigg to get a recall...

Waite and Wiggins are injured so that caters for two. Russell and one of armfield/browne/yarran will have to make way for grigg.

If they bring in Grigg...
In: Fisher, Irish, Scotland, Grigg
Out: Wiggins, Waite, Russell, my guess would be browne as I think yarran and army did enough last week to hold a spot

If they dont bring in Grigg
In: Fisher, Irish, Scotland
Out: Wiggins, Waite, Russell

Ten news in perth said the eagles flew out today and the news is

IN: Hunter, MacNamara, Hunter, Stengelin, Swift

OUT: Priddis (Left at home with an injury apparently, Cockie, Jones

Final team to be announced tomorrow.

Sigh ...

Why don't people actually listen and pay attention to the Carlton Press releases ..

Fisher and O'Hailpin are coming into the side, there is no way in hell the club is going to risk the season by playing an 'unreliable erratic' in Hartlett, and we'll have to wait and see if there is any more change.s

Hopefully Jordan Russell will be dropped, as well.

What press release? All I saw was a press conference with Ratten saying who may or may not come in. A few weeks ago just before the Freo game, Ratten said that Yarran was a few weeks off......he was picked two days later. On the carlton website last week there was a story about Fisher and that he was close to selection....didn't get picked though.

My point is that not everything that is said in the media about our team and its possible changes are going to happen.

Unreliable eratic? Are you describing Setanta by mistake? At least the word eratic seems a match him.

I'm still searching for the 'press release' about the team this week. I might wait until tomorrow.

CP was eluding to the press conference with ratts and he did elude to the inclusion of Irish and Fisher and that would make sense given the injuries to Waite and Wiggins. Given cloke rolled his ankle and is expected to miss the VFL match this weekend you would think that Irish would be Waite's replacement.

Also reading that article where Teague was interviewed he seems to think that Grigg might run around in the twos one more time.

I'm expecting:

OUT: Waite (inj.), Wiggins (inj.), Armfield
IN: O'hAilpin, Fisher, Scotland

Think you are on the money there mate.
I would have said Browne out instead of Armfield, but i'ld imagine they'ld want to cycle through players and would not want to drop Browne from the 1 inclusion last week. Give Armfield a run in the Ants to freshen him up a little and give Browne another chance.

:thumbsu:

I am worried about Fev's fitness for this weekend... he hasnt been on his usual radio spots the last two mornings due to illness (cold / flu etc)... could be in doubt for tomorrow night maybe?

I asked this question last week and was told he would play, but was a late withdrawal. That made me lose my eliminator match *sigh* lol

Is Heath Scotland going to get up for the game? (yes, DT related question :) )

The names we are throwing around are a little sad. I thought Fish was probably gone and to see that we have to bring him back again due to underperforming and injured players is a worry. Likewise, O'hailpin. The only way I can see Fish coming close to "making it" is if he can play within 30m of goal (ie takes shots from within 30m), which means that Fev would have to play a bit further out or share the space or we trade him!

Nice to get Scotland back.

Personally, I'd prefer:

Out: Waite Wiggo

In: Scotland Grigg

Let's just run with class players...Wishful thinking I know.

Wouldn't have thought so..I think Fev will fire up and kick a bag this weekend.
Not so sure about that.

Fevola will have to play on Darren Glass tomorrow night without support from Waite. :(

Grigg might need another week if the comments on his return from injury in the Bullants are correct.

In: Fisher O'hAilpin Anderson
Out: Wiggins Waite Russell

Anderson should be given a call up after playing some solid footy in the last month.

I think. :p

If it's really our structure and game plan that was at fault in the first half, why drop more than three players? ;)

WTF?! Off the bandwagon? :p

You wouldn't bring back Scotty from concussion?

In: Fisher O'hAilpin Scotland
Out: Wiggins Waite Russell

And your right about Grigg, Teague has been quoted as suggesting that he may need another week... which is fair enough as I think we have the midfield cover this week

Browne was one of our better players last week and could hold his head high.

There's no chance he'll be dropped this week and if he keeps performing as he is, he won't be dropped in a little while.

Browney is a gem.

Also Rattens latest article about Browne means he will probably be in the team for until he plays a really bad game.

I swear if i see Carlton line up with less than 2 players in their forward line i will turn the game off. Football is about out scoring the opponents and that game last week was typical of carlton's inconsistency....Absolute rubbish.

What the hell is Fev and Betts doing on the half back line????? what are the other 16 players who should be there doing.....

And why is it so hard to mark up a player...I don't know how many times in the game Adel switched play and had 2 or 3 un marked players on the opposing wing...ARRRRR!! rubbish.

Ratten should know better!!!!!! don't blame the players, they were told to do something that was not in their usual style of play and we all know Carlton aren't the fastest team in the comp, we rely on our foot skill yet we handballed everytime. We have guys who can take great leading marks but still we handball..

Why.

In: Fish, Setanta
Out : Waite, Wiggins

No Scotland by the sounds coming out of princes park, at this stage may need another week.

i've heard they'll be the only changes unless Scotland can prove his fitness.

Yeah Ratten will drop Browne after heaping praise on him for his game against the Crows

Fisher, O'haipan, Scotland will most likely be the ins replacing Waite Wiggins and either Armfield or Russell.

I'd like to see Ellard get a run at some stage soon ..but i can't see the MC making too many changes in the one round..Ellard for Hadley would be the go.

So after the performance of that team on Saturday, the only changes to that team have been forced upon the MC due to injury

FMD, you would think the MC would find 3 changes minimum - 4 would be slightly high, but understandable given the need to make changes due to injury.

Hartlett is in form, Grigg was in form on the weekend, Houlihan is a proven player, Bannister deserves a run, Gartlett adds some excitement...others need to be looked at.

If Scotland & Grigg cannot come in due to needing match fitness, than perhaps its time to look past whatever it is they are trying to achieve by keeping Houlihan in the reserves...

If they do not want to do this, than Hartlett and Bannister have both been in form and one of them deserves their chance.

If the MC really do only make 2 changes, I will have finally lost my faith in them - if our players can play like that, yet keep their spots with plenty of guys deserving their shot, then I have lost all understanding of our selection policies...

Simpson was our second best player against the Pies and ran his guts out.

Simpson did stand up in the second half last week and played well with his runs down the wing.

And you want to drop Simmo. :o

And supporters also want to make five changes to the 22.

There will be three at most.

Armfield shouldn't be dropped.

Unless you're Tony Shaw who thinksthe second year player is slow and has no upside as a union convert.

Has Tony Shaw ever said a bad word about Marty Clarke and Heath Shaw?

Armfield was terrible last week... just wasn't up to the standard of high pressure footy.

Simpson always does well when we are on top, maybe you could say he is our barometer, or he is the reason we are on top. But whenever we are down, he is no where to be seen. He goes missing every single time the going gets tough.

You simply can not have experienced midfielders getting 5 or less touches in a half, considering he had up their with the most game time of anyone! Can undestand young, inexperienced kids going missing or showing inconsistency. Not Simpson - has gone missing a few too many times for my liking when it gets hard.

We should win by 10 goals friday night = simpson domination, so don't come back to me friday night. Wait till a high pressure game, and HOPEFULLY he plays with confidence and run then! Unfortunately, to this point in his career, he hasn't.

In:
Heath Scotland- We need his drive off half back
Brad Fisher- Could be a key up forward
Adam Hartlett-They may play him in defence and put Austin up forward.
Shaun Grigg- He is a gun and has earn his spot
Out:
Simon Wiggins-injured
Jarrad Waite-injured
Dennis Armfield-needs a few weeks in the twos to get his skills right
Jordan Russell-Play terrible last week and may need a week or two in the twos
just my thoughts
