Just let wanted to post this here, as me and my partner are in raptures right now (her side Carlton and obviously my second side) - you may have just witnessed divine intervention, haha.

My grandmother unfortunately passed away today, from this f*cking horrible covid 19 disease. It's been a tough day as we were close, but footy has been a great comfort all throughout.

Point of this post, is that with about 10 minutes to go, I looked up to the sky and asked my nana if she could help us over the line. 10 seconds to go and Docherty kicks it out on the full. Me and my partner both think it's over and we commiserate.

Nek minnit, a down the field free kick is paid, and no-one really knows what it's for. Moreso, Newnes who is an experienced player takes the kick, and Gibbons who is young doesn't.

Newnes kicks the goal, and the rest is history.

For the record, I'm an agnostic, but I do believe there's things we don't understand. I said thank you to my nana, and it kinda brings me a bit of joy to see something so bizarre/unusual unfold.

Go Blues!

Sorry for your loss. Strange days we live in.
Can we get Nana a stat for a goal assist?

Regardless, the ball should have gone back to Doc, not downfield.
We received a gift tonight and should probably hush about the umps for a couple weeks now.

Anyway: that was brilliant composure from Newnes, as soon as he kicked those wires out of the way I knew he had it.

Nah mate, if the free is given at the point of kicking the ball it’s where it’s kicked from. If the free is after the kick it’s downfield. Been like that for as long as I’ve been watching football.

The only query is the free, maybe was though not convinced and if it was against us I would have lost my shit completely. It’s one of few areas of umpiring that is generally consistent so if you are looking at the game as a whole then it’s play on.

Great finish to an average performance. How did people rate SPS in the second half? He was copping it at half time, thought he was solid in the second.
Loved Walsh and Ed. Cripps had some nice little touches that had an impact, not so much with his forward 50 entries.

Why?

Umpires have no influence on the result you told me ... several times
first cellaring for misjudging tone........in you go...........and take your umpire hatred with you...........

Cottrell bang ball long in wet conditions?
Think we were watching different games. Twice in about 30 seconds he gave two dribble kicks in defensive 50 that went straight to a freo player that went about 10metres.
Might be able to run all day, but needs more time in the twos, has no clue at all...bring back dow for sure

14 disposals and 360 metres gained. Yes, he dribbled some kicks but then everybody on the ground did at times. Metres gained tells us he was getting the ball going forward a lot.

We’re now officially fighting for 8th spot.

HUGE “8 point” games ahead Against Suns, Giants and Pies. All winnable. All could decide whether we make it or not.

Yep lots for us to work on but hopefully we get Martin/Gov/Cunners back for the Suns which makes our forward line way more dynamic. By the sounds of it Dow pressing and puts pressure on Setterfield/Kennedy to perform which is good.

It's true that a win glosses over a lot of issues. Pulled through on the back of a couple of fortuitous decisions and a very surprising kick.

The win still leaves us with a chance to play finals, but we didn't look much like a finals side tonight
Our ball use going into 50 leaves a lot to be desired.

Willo played his best game of the year I thought.
Took it on, created something out of nothing at times, had some good 1-on-1 wins.
Some of his decision making is still a bit iffy, but I liked his intent.
He's had continuity now after 2 years out.

Love how he is backing himself... Was strong out of defence.

If he can stop slipping over, he'll be sweet.

Keep.
