Relax. We could have gone full steam ahead in the last, and won by 9 goals. What benefits does that gain us exactly as compared to a four goal win?

We lost to a Hawthorn side, who are premiership favorites, by a few goals. I'd say our start to the season isn't ideal, but we are 1-1 and getting a few of the boys back.

I don't know why people want us playing our best footy in Round 2 against Richmond. Makes little sense to me.

i know its early days, but I left the game with serious worries over Bucks. I couldnt really discern a clear cut plan, even Richmond looked more organised than we did.

All I seem to hear from him is the old cliches about hardness at the contest etc, but very little in technicalities.

It pains me to say, but on the evidence last night and against Hawthorn, I think we are in for a long tough season. Unless there is vast improvement in a week, the Blues will get us by atleast 4 goals.

were obviouslly changing game plans... it isnt gonna be amazing early on until the players get the hang of it by playing with in for quiet a few games. theres always some confusion when a new coach comes in and changes tactics early on, and it will take a while for us to hit top gear.

FFS:mad::mad::mad:

With all the negativity on here you would think that we lost to GWS:thumbsdown:

Seriously, we were a little scrappy in the first half, but worked through it and kept them at arm's length. In the third qtr we looked really good and then just put the cue in the rack in the last. Miller got three goals courtesy of getting loose in the fwd 50 and nobody could be bothered chasing him. You could see that as soon as they got close, i.e. When they got to 23 points, we stepped it up a little and Jolly charged down to score a goal straight away.

Bottom line is WINNING THESE GAMES BY 15 GOALS EVERY TIME DOES NOT WIN YOU A FLAG, and last year shows that exactly.

As far as the backline goes, Reid was close to BOG, Keeffe was good, Harry much improved, Shaw quiet but ok. Ed please give up your hate for Toovey, it is ridiculous, and does no good because it is just wrong.

Midfielders average, Swan and Pendles shanked their disposals but got a lot of them, Thomas quiet apart from blistering start to the 3rd qtr.

Hopefully this year will be 2011 in reverse, injuries to start, doing enough to win (like the St Kilda, Brisbane, Gold Coast games late last year), playing our best footy towards the end, and some silverware at the end of the season instead of the start;)

Geez you'd think we lost the game with all the negativity. You guys have to realise that it's only round 2, it's a long long season, and hopefully we're building towards our peak at the right time. Considering we have a few young fellas, guys coming back from injuries and learning a slightly different game plan with a new coach I'd be taking a comfortable win in round 2.

We can only give an appraisal of the 2 games... We haven't played any more than that...so based on that we are crap.

The players arnt using the coridor well, when we use it we hardly hit targets and thats when we turn the ball over alot. When we turn the ball over the ball comes back very quickly and thats how we concede most of our goals. We have been lacking skilled players in our backline to kick the ball through the corridor, I dont think Shaw, Harry and Toovey are good for using the corridor and deffs not Swan when he is coming from the backline. Need Jonno back in the backline asap. I preffer the boundry line gameplan becuase you get less punished if you turn the ball over. We also dont guard the corridor well and teams move the ball much quicker than us, when you see a team like Richmond do that its annoying.

The boundary line crutch cost us a flag last year along with injuries at the wrong time and a bitter sulking coach. We are paying the price for becoming braver and more dangerous long term with the pain of not having easy matches atm.

The kids with 2-5 games under their belt should be immune from blame. They are just trying to find the pace of the game. They won't play deep into the season, but this is the perfect time to give them a taste, before they go back to developing the tools for next year

Seedsman showed that he is willing, but gets caught with the speed of the game. He'll learn from that. For the 1-2 "urgh" moments, he did have some quality attacks on the Footy and showed a willingness to chase and do the little things

Sinclair looks a ways off. Good instincts, but just doesn't look dangerous yet.

Good instincts?.. Did you see him get run down by king kong? (Maric) has no football brain.

You are right that we need to relax. But I don't think people are asking for our best footy, merely GOOD footy, which we haven't been playing.

Lol you never cease to amaze. It was that gameplan that won us the flag in 2010 and be it not for injuries would have won it for us in 2011. Our players are not skilled enough to use the corridoor on a regular basis. The turnovers will kill us. Just because Bucks was a great kick doesnt mean the minute he becomes coach every player will all of a sudden be spearing 50m passes as soon as they get the ball.

Braver to what end? And we were plenty dangerous last year. We were only the top scoring side in the league

We played good footy against the Hawks. At full strength and in that form we will be difficult to beat. People expect better against the Tigers. I think we are hitting Carlton at a bad time with some injuries and after a flat performance. But if we switch on the care factor I think we will see a different team.

Bucks is coaching for best option, and he's asking a player or 2 to be release players in the middle. The reason is simple. Against Geelong last year they simply defended the boundary and had us locked for the most part of all our matches. We simply have to start using more of the field so Bux is quite correctly positioning players in the centre which will spread the opposition. But you have to use that player some time to get it to work.
I think in about 6 weeks we'll have it nutted down.
Scratchy wins is a great way to start the year, in fact, it's probably the only way you can win a flag these days same as 2010.

Looking forward to maxy and johnno coming in. Johnno's run and delivery is very important to us. I think back to the drawn Demons game last year and remember as soon as he left the ground injured and until he returned we really missed a lot of important run from half back to the middle of the ground.

I think Maxy's importance is noticed far more when he is not playing. He may not be the most talented footballer, but he organises and directs the back six so well that it allows them to play with the confidence and flair that makes us attack dangerously and keeps us defensively tight.

Agreed. Completely underrated player in our camp. One of our most experienced player and never makes the poor decisions we see Harry and shaw do. Defensively sound and provides good skills and run between each of the arcs. Important in.
