Autopsy Rd 21 - Blues go home at half time. Get blitzed in the second half

Only watched the first half today and was feeling quite upbeat as we were a couple of goals ahead when i went out for dinner.

Caught the three quarter time score and thought what the **** we have gone backwards by 7 goals. Must have been some third quarter.

Got home and went through the match day thread which depressed me even more.

Cant see us picking up two wins in the last fortnight so i guess it is another spoon :'(:'(:'(
59 will be better.

It's all your fault AA!!!!

Nah seriously hope you had a great day with family Andy ;)
Had a great dinner with all the family thanks Crusher :D

I did mention to Mrs AA when we got home that the game result may have been different had i been able to continue watching the second half

Just my 2 cents.

Well done to Lobbe, Crippa (as always) and Daisy.....big games.
SPS and Dow are looking better each week.
On a negative note, I'm not sure what Pickett's use is in this side, he seldom gets it and I can barely recall him kicking a goal this season.
Polson has a long way to go, I hope he works on his deficiencies in the preseason because I'm not confident he'll make it.
March bank had a shocker. He is so clumsy/unco but I'm writing off this season for him because he's been in and out all year.

Despite the loss, I really hope they don't make the usual 2-3 changes and bring back O'Shea, Mullett or Casboult. No one in the VFL is screaming out to get picked in the AFL side. Stick with this line-up for the remaining 2 weeks, barring injuries.

Today was filled with some good glimpses of the future and some horrible moments of realisation of just how much work we have to do this off-season.

Cam Polson, Bolton please for the love of God give him a spell in the twos. He may come good but it's getting ridiculous now just how ineffective he is.

Also feel sorry for Graham, I think he can make it as a midfielder but Bolton and co keep playing him in the forward line for the majority of the game. Did alright when he went in the guts. Sadly made some bad errors. Confidence looks shot.

Didn’t realise he was 31. Bloody hell. Feels like yesterday he was drafted.
Interesting to note that Murphy's 247 games is the 3rd highest from his draft year, behind Pendlebury's 271 & Nathan Jones' 259 games. A pretty good effort considering the injuries he has suffered along the way.

I just want to know where the hell our run went in the second half. As soon as Freo put a few on the board we went into our shells. With maturity and experience that probably won't happen in years to come, but **** me it was frustrating today.
This line of thinking helps me to temper my thoughts after games like today. You just know that with another couple of years under their belt players likes Dow, LOB, SPS, Fisher, Pickett, Harry & Charlie will run out games more consistently.

At the moment you know the bursts you see from these players, particularly Dow, Fisher & SPS, will be shortlived given the amount of work they have already been doing in the midfield so early in their career.

Not to mention having to carry 5-6 older players every week when it should be the other way around!

It’s bad enough that these kids are forced into the deep end so early in their careers because of a lack of onfield leadership, but these kids are having to work even harder every time the usual older suspects make horrible turnovers and decisions on a weekly basis.

Silver lining is that all this is forcing these kids to fast track their development and strengthening their mental and physical abilities.

Wonder if our kids are getting tired due to preparing their bodies more so than normal during the season. Definitely seeing increased muscle tone in SPS, Dow, McKay, LOB the last few months where generally in season players decrease muscle mass. If so I guess the plan is to have them physically ready as soon as possible.

I would suggest its the errors that are why he doesnt go in the middle. He can get it...but is a liabilty with it at AFL pace. Playing like a fellow that just knows hes gone.

The honest brutal truth is this. Without a deep quality midfield ur going nowhere.
Right now..not the past not the future BUT right now Cripps is miles our best mid. Ed is no 2. Theres our issue. Ed should be no 8 or 9. Fish Dow Sps Obrien ect r not up 2 it NOW. They show glimpses yes. They have talent yes. Will they be goot players .. I believe yes. But right now they r not upto giving a consistent (qtr by qtr let alone week by week) Afl standard performance.
I believe sos has picked well with his draft picks but seriously we all knee our midfield would be an issue this yr...why o why did he get oshea mullet shaw???? 3 hbflankers.
Willo doc simmo byrne mecreddie plowman schuy matchy not enough guys to play that position. We should have punted on mids.
So what we have is basically the core of our mids who just dont do enough in games.
Then chuck in other guys like What we have seen all yr pickett garlett lamb polson graham levi who also dont get alot of the footy..how the hell r we gunna be comp..2 wins dont lie. Climbing the ladder will only happen
1. When those young mids do more than the occassional highlight reel and actually Earn their place as afl players on performance not potential
2. We get some exp mids who are Afl standard lije a shiel

I know this sounds harsh but its reality now.
We have a push bike mfield group going up against v8 or 6s mfield

graham is gonna be carrying so much "if only" baggage they won't let it on the plane........

Graham just isn’t good enough for AFL, he’s done extremely well to stay on the list as long as he has. This is the one thing that has frustrated me about our rebuild, SOS has done a great job with trades, I really like our drafts picks as well, I really do believe we will be a powerhouse again. But our inability to find some decent mature mids for support has been frustrating (especially when we recruit so many hbf’s). Surely there is a Lambert or Mengelola we could’ve selected instead of Shaw for example (I know we did want Kelly but Geelong got in early).

Networking at the Camberfeld bar after and may have turned an ordinary day into something a lot sweeter........
fruity lexia will do that..........

Good signs in the first half with everyone having a crack and capitalising on the free kick differential we received. Our 2 key forwards were working well together and we were using them too thus leading to a handy lead at the half.
After half time freo lifted the umpires definitely looked at the free kick differential and umpired accordingly and the same old players who make the same old mistakes started doing what they do and we crumbled and the kids ran out of puff and that was the ball game.
We really need to get a medium tall like McGovern to help Charlie and big H to take some pressure off them.
Another thing I really noticed today sitting on level 5 at the stadium seeing it all unfold is AFL footy drastically needs to be changed. Both teams at numerous times with all the players at one end would win the ball and have no where/one to kick it to it's pathetic.
I don't know how they are going to change it but I hope they come up with something soon and maybe we might see some actual football players playing again and not elite athletes that run up and down the ground well all day but **** up the use of the ball time after time.
Cripps,Daisy, SPS,Lobbe,Simpson all played decent games and Charlie and H seemed to play well together and hopefully leads to them being the twin towers down forward that can lead us to number 17. Go Blues!
