I really don't get all this Charlie bashing, I have only watched up to Gov's second goal in the second quarter but Charlie had already had 8 touches roughly 4 marks and kicked a goal and been very good, he ended with 17, 9, 1 and 4 tackles.

If this is him playing terribly I would hate to think what you thought of him against the Lions last year?

ah stats, don't they tell us everything........

don't see the stats on easy dropped marks, or going at the contest soft or not being switched on. Or taking a mark, burning 3 options and kicking long to Gibbons, great play. Was a bit better this week but overall has been shithouse this year (including JLT)

We would all be talking differently if Charlie Curnow actually decided to pull his finger out for at least 1 game so far. Even just a qtr where he plays like he did last year and we probably win a game. **** its annoying me how bad he has been

The guy is getting a reputation as loving the night life. Can’t help but think it’s affecting him somewhat. Getting spotted out and about far too much for my liking

I can't remember who posted it (Stamos??) but quoting how Brisbane were the same last year and have improved have moved me from possibly remove Bolton mid season, to leaning more towards wait until at least round 18 (hopefully results improve and its a non issue).

The bolded bit shows you are not a Carlton fan, but a Bolton fan. This blind allegiance to one person is admirable, but misdirected. The club is bigger than any individual. If we go 4-18 this year do you still keep him?

Wanting your football club to be successful does not make a supporter entitled. It may shock you but some people strive for perfection in all parts of life. I want my football club to be the very best it can be. 3 wins and 35 losses is not that, particularly when I see coaches with what I think are inferior lists getting better results.

Gonna flip this - why the agenda to remove Bolton without knowing, or even suggesting, who would take his place? Seems you've got it arse-about. If a high quality, proven replacement can be signed - go for gold. I'm sure the club would be thrilled to get Clarkson. But sacking a young coach who we handed the responsibility of trying to retain and develop a horde of young players while the list was repeatedly turned over, and then going on a hunt for someone who may or may not be any better? Yeah, cause that won't result in players questioning the ability of the club to stay the course. And if the club can't, why should they?

you mean like brereton, carey, crosswell, ablett snr, swan, martin.........those types?

What ?! It’s the truth. What’s your issue with discussing it ?
expecting people here to believe your opinion as the truth? you can't see an issue with that? no-one else is believed - why should you be?

Even the Tripple M team we’re laughing about it on Saturday’s broadcast. It’s ok. Look away ... it doesn’t exist

...

You're talking about the kid who, one game as a junior, played back and switched teams at the halfway point to be planted at full forward and kicked 13 goals in the second half to almost pinch the opposition the game. Jeremy Cameron was a BNF winning CHB as a junior. Nick Riewoldt was more a wing than a CHF, such is the degree to which he ran and outpaced his opponents. Brian Lake was more than capable in the front half of the ground, as is Harry Taylor.

Weitering was spoken of as a generational prospect because he was unlimited as far as position went; front, back, midfield, you name it he had done it to a good standard. His U18's year was so glorified because he combined with Kieran Collins and organised a back six which dominated all comers. He's not just a backman, and even if he was was Darcy Moore just a forward? Michael Hurley?

Weitering's subsequent poor form has more to do with the delivery into our front half over that period and his inexperience, coupled with injury. If he had been allowed to stay there, to develop there for a whole season rather than a preseason and a four week snippet, he could've been a sensational CHF; imagine him kicking into forward 50, with those skills! The mistake wasn't in putting him there, it was in being forced to switch him back after the cavalcade of injuries suffered in our back half, and once those happened he was made to look even worse due to the sheer amount of turnovers we had through the midfield.

It's difficult to be more wrong than you are here, C2DB.

You want to believe that Weitering would have made an awesome forward, then I won’t disillusion you of that fact as just like you I have no way of knowing what COULD have happened under all the right circumstances that you lay out.

I can only look at what did happen, it’s 20/20 hindsight yes, but it’s the only reality based way of assessing ehat happened.

Weitering was drafted at No.1 and played his first year in the position that everyone rated him in, and he went on to have an outstanding year quickly showing he was our best defender in just his very first season.

Bolton then decided that he’d take our best defender out of the backline, put him in the forward line and after as you say having a good first up game against Rance, he looked lost for the remainder of the season, and ultimately only has just gotten back to his best after cementing his role down back.

Like I said, all I can do is look at the evidence (not what could have been) and conclude that this experiment by Bolton failed.
And heres the thing, I don’t mind Bolton trying to think outside the box and try some things.. it’s just that the things he seems determined to try seem to always be a big risk or reward strategy which never work, the 4 talls strategy this week being another case of this.

If only he would be prepared to take more risks with our ball movement the way he seems to do with everything else :)

They don't show his perfect kick into SPS from the wing in the centre square which opened the game right up for us except SPS dropped the uncontested mark either.

It just seems that every mistake Charlies makes get blown up, people have said he dropped 5 marks he should have taken, he takes them that is 14 marks for the game - clearly he is working hard just marking some small mistakes, like nearly every other player.

I noticed a passage where Cripps had taken a mark just on the defensive side of the wing, he ignored 2 runners inside and kicked down the line - straight out of bounds, but that was in the first quarter and it was Cripps so we don't dwell on that mistake.

They were at least kicking reasonable scores (by that I mean 90+) most weeks and had close losses to Port away and Collingwood where they kicked good scores in both games.

In contrast we have lost the last two games to teams squiggle thinks are bottom 4 material this year

What on earth are you on about?

Brisbane's first four scores last year - 82, 74, 92, 17.

They also conceded 100 points in 3 of those four games, something we're yet to do this year.

We're four rounds into the season and we're being written off after 4 close games. But Brisbane last year were coming off 4 losses, including a 90 point drubbing, but nobody remembers that now because they got their shit together and played some better games as the season wore on.

This is what I'm talking about - people's memories are short, and coloured by the filter that the AFL media puts on everything.

does C Curnow have the same kind of tank that Reiwoldt and Richo had? if so can't he use it the same way, burn off his opponent through repeated gut busting leads? it seems like he has all the tools but doesn't know how to use them as well as he could.

sort of done with the "one day he will tear it apart" commentary - the time is now, charlie........

The question is what do people expect?

Clearly he worked hard, presented well and was at least serviceable but yet people act like he was the worst player on the ground and only highlight his mistakes.

It has to be remembered that he has had a pretty interrupted run at things so far this year.

I can almost handle errors (except for simple dropped marks - be at least 10 for him this year) but non-effort, being soft are not acceptable. Charlie has been both for majority of game time this year. As I said, he gets back to 2018 form and we win yesterday

against the Tigers people stated Charlie was terrible but he covered close to (if not the) most ground of anyone on the field.

So tired of this excuse. Harry and Charlie have now done 4 pre-seasons together and should know their roles enough to be able to work together. McGovern is a 3rd tall - it's a simple bloody system. Why can other teams bring in 5-6 new players to their 22 every year and have no problem 'learning to play together' yet we need 4 years to learn.

Also, if the coach needs to learn them to play together why does he shuffle the team to 4 KPF's like he did this week? It confused the absolute hell out of them.
Adding key position players is nothing like adding midfielders. You can be tired of the excuse but that doesn't mean it isn't a valid excuse.

it's like you've come to warn us about the end of the world - did I see you with a megaphone, chained to a pillar outside st pauls friday night?

I really don't think this is his issue.
Coming off his knee injury, only missing a week, he was working way up the ground to get the ball. No doubt his touch is a bit off, and he made a few poor decisions (just like pretty much every Carlton player). Did not look like a lack of effort.

I don't think Cripps played in the first quarter?
